  • This research focuses on 10 modern museums built in Europe near important cultural assets of UNESCO World Heritage level. This study aims to reveal the coexistence of European laminated history and contemporary architecture by considering various aspects of respecting the existing and maintaining their identity as modern buildings, using these cultural assets as a basic concept of planning while minimizing conflicts with the past. The four measures of respecting existing cultural heritage are arranged by showing respect by lowering oneself, sympathizing with others, preparing for harmony with modernity, and communicating by looking at. The measures that reveal the identity of modern buildings are confirmed by classifying them as modern and post-modern approaches, each with several options. Through this study, we have been able to extract useful lessons for us, as well, while the past and present coexist successfully, by taking history as a reliable guide to take a fresh leap from it, rather than as a solidified remnant of inertness.

  • In this study a series of in-situ and laboratory tests such as SPT, CPT, DMT and oedometer test are performed and then the stress history of soft ground is evaluated from the different method for estimating preconsolidation pressure. Casagrande method(1936), which is generally used in the conventional design, overestimates to the known preconsolidation pressure but Becker method(1987) similarly estimates to the known values. Also the results of DMT is similar to that of Becker method, and SPT and CPT overestimates the stress history of investigated ground.

  • Introduction : Sasang Constitutional Medicine (SCM) is one of the most popular specialty in Korean traditional medicine. After Donguisusebowon (東醫壽世保元), the book initiated SCM at first, there have been several books related with SCM. Through this study on Donguisasangsinpyeon (東醫四象新編), we intend to present clinical application of SCM and the spread of its use. Methods and Discussion : Firstly, we will examine the author's life and philosophy, and consider various editions of Donguisasangsinpyeon. And we will attempt content analysis to the preface, foreword, afterword, and main text. Using these methods, we will show that Donguisasangsinpyeon not only succeed the theory of Donguisusebowon faithfully, but also expand the clinical use of SCM. Conclusions : Donguisasangsinpyeon is the first SCM-based clinical book after Donguisusebowon. And the book can also be valued for its adoption of explanatory diagrams that help people select customized prescriptions conveniently and easily.

  • The study was conducted based on the 'method of mathematical exploration through history'. In recent school education, 'Probability and Statistics' education has been emphasized, and as a result, the study has conducted a study on permutations. Permutation is used in a variety of fields, and in this study, we looked at the Derangement. The results of this study are as follows. First, analysis was made at current school mathematics level and academic mathematics level for Derangement. Second, the historical development process of derangement was examined. Third, based on this, the research direction of this study was decided to be 'Derangement number's triangle(Rencontres number's triangle)', and the inquiry for education expansion was carried out. Fourth, we have presented data on concrete educational expansion by discovering various mathematical facts of the Derangement number's triangle. We hope that the results of this study will provide meaningful implications for the application of mathematics and the presentation of new inquiry directions.

"GuGeupGanIBang(救急簡易方)" is a Korean annotation emergency treatment book made by scholars that were learned in medicine such as Naeuiwon(內醫院) head Yoo n Ho(尹壕) Seo Ha gun(西河君) Im Won jun(任元濬) GongJoChamPan(工曹參判) Park An sung(朴安性) Hanseongbu Jwayun(漢城府左尹) Gwon Geon(權健) SungRokDaeBuHaengByeongJoPanSeo(崇祿大夫行兵曹判書) YangCheonGun(陽川君) Heo Jong(許琮) following instructions of King Sungjong. This book was made by supplementing "EiBangRyuChwi(醫方類聚)", "HyangYakJeSengBang(鄕藥濟生方)" and "GuGeupBang(救急方)". When Yoon Ho presented it the king in May 1489(the 20th year of Sungjong), the king made the governors of each province publish it in large numbers, allowing common people to have this book and find the treatment immediately and save lives. 2. "GuGeupGanIBang(救急簡易方)" consists of 8 volumes, 127 chapters. Contents on stroke is the largest section. Separate chapters for gynecology and pediatrics let children that are easily ill and women that cannot get treatment freely be taken care of. It is an first aid medical book covering all ages, fulfilling its original purpose.

  • The medical system of the Central Military Command in the late Joseon Dynasty was practiced by military yakbang (clinicians 藥房), acupuncturists, and horse veterinarians. By analyzing and verifying various literatures, the following conclusions were obtained: 1) In the late Joseon Dynasty, military yakbang prioritized internal medical treatment over surgical treatment. Military yakbang were recognized before military acupuncturists were and had more medicinal gardens. This can be associated with the characteristics of the Military Medical Specialized Book that focuses on drug prescription. 2) The positions of military yakbang and military acupuncturists were not preferred by the Western Medical Offices (洋醫司). For example, in the latter days of King Sukjong's reign, positions were appointed from the Western Medical Offices but, on appeal, outside doctors were included as well. This is understood in terms of salary levels and guarantees of career opportunities. 3) The military acupuncturist was not selected based on ability as per the rules. If that was the case, more military acupuncturists would have been selected as royal acupuncturists (內鍼醫) under the system that continued until the late 19th century. In the future, it is expected that comparative studies will be conducted between local military medicine and the early Joseon's military medicine, thereby intensifying research on military medicine in the Joseon Dynasty.

  • To investigate the impacts of transgenic rice on freshwater organisms, we conducted two life table experiments using Daphnia magna for fifteen and twenty days, respectively. We examined life history traits such as population growth rates (r), reproductive rates ($R_0$), generation times, and survivorship. In the first experiment, we used non-drought-stressed transgenic and non-transgenic rice harvested in 2005. In the second study, we used non-transgenic and transgenic rice harvested in 2006 following drought stress. Each experiment involved three treatments in which D. magna neonates were fed with Selenastrum capricornutum (control treatment) and S. capricornutum with 5% aqueous extracts of non-transgenic rice (N-T) and transgenic rice (T). In the first experiment, D. magna showed reduced population growth rates and lowered fecundity in the N-T and T treatments. In the second experiment, D. magna receiving both transgenic and non-transgenic rice extracts showed very high mortality, low population growth rates and reproduction rates. We could not detect any significant negative effects of extracts from transgenic rice on D. magna life history traits at 95%.

  • The purpose of this research is to understand Ko Yu-seop's perception of 'contemporary emerging architecture' in the West by investigating into his two early 1930s' articles: 'On Emerging Arts, Particularly the Cutting-edge Architecture' (Jan. 1931) and 'Russian Architecture' (Dec. 1932). As a result of the investigation, it is argued that he attempted to systematically describe his contemporary architecture, fromthe concept of 'modern' to representative architectural theories, and his suggested reference list is considered meaningful since it illustrates one aspect of how modern architectural knowledge was transferred to Korea at that time. As his limitation, however, it should be pointed out that a significant part of his writing was a verbatim translation of the Japanese critic Takao Itagaki's New Art Acquisition (1930). Nevertheless, the two articles give us a valuable understanding related to his socialist tendency, his preferred commune-type city-cum-architecture that reflects the ideology, etc. Hereafter, this understanding needs to be further discussed in both study areas of art history and architectural history in Korea.

  • This study explores visitor learning in a natural history museum from the perspectives of situated learning. The purpose of this study is to understand how the visitors construct knowledge from museum experiences through dyadic discourses. The participants were two university students. They moved naturally through the exhibition with no predetermined path in a natural history museum in Korea. Data were collected in the form of audio-recorded dyadic discourses at and between exhibits and were transcribed. The transcription was coded using the conversation coding scheme, and categorized into specific learning types. The findings included (1) the characteristics of learning talks and (2) learning types created by dyadic discourses at and between exhibitions within learning contexts as museum learning experiences. Implications and future research related to visitor learning in informal learning settings were discussed based on the findings.
