  • Astronomical data making such as forming a calendar, period of day, determining the time of rising/setting of the sun and the onset of twilight are essential in our daily lives. Knowing the calendar day of the past is particularly crucial for studying the history of a clan or a nation. To verify previous studies in the calendar day of the Joseon dynasty (1392 - 1910), we investigate the sexagenary cycle of the new moon day (i.e., the first day in a lunar month) by using sources such as results of the calculations using the Datong calendar (a Chinese Calendar of the Ming Dynasty) and the data of Baekjungryeok (a Perpetual Calendar; literally, a one hundred-year almanac). Compared with the study of Ahn et al., we find that as many as 17 sexagenary cycles show discrepancies. In the cases of nine discrepancies, we find that the sexagenary cycles of this study are identical to those of the almanacs at that time. In addition, we study five sexagenary cycles by using the historical accounts of Joseon Wangjo Sillok (Annals of the Joseon Dynasty), Seungjeongwon Ilgi (Daily Reports of Royal Secretariat), Chungung Ilgi (Logs of Crown Prince), and so forth. For the remaining discrepancies, we present historical literature supporting the results of this study. This study will greatly contribute to the identification of the lunisolar calendar days during the Joseon dynasty as the dates of the modern (i.e., Gregorian) calendar.

  • The objective of this study is to derive and evaluate the drought threshold level based on hydro-meteorological data using historical drought events. After collecting the drought events during 1991 to 2009 year, the observed meteorological data and estimated hydrological component from LSM are used as input for the percentile analysis that is drought analysis data. The drought threshold level that precipitation and runoff of 3 month duration are less than 35%, soil moisture of 2 month duration is less than 35% and evapotranspiration of 3 month duration is more than 65% is derived using ROC analysis that are objective test method. ROC analysis with SPI (3) is performed to evaluate the applicability of threshold level in the domestic. As a result, it can be concluded that the derived drought threshold level show better performance to reflect the historical drought events than SPI (3) and it reasonably explain the spatial drought situation through the spatial analysis.

  • As one of the key parameters to determine $CO_2$ flux between air - sea interface, it is quite important to know p$CO_2$, which has involved much uncertainty, mainly due to the complex variations of sea surface p$CO_2$ and the paucity of samples, made in ocean. In order to improve the interrelationship between partial pressure (p$CO_2$) and different physical and biochemical parameters in global sea surface water, a new empirical relation is established to correlate and parameterize p$CO_2$ in the mixed layer using the data from recent WOCE cruises. Meanwhile, by new empirical relation, abundant historical hydrographic and nutrients ship data, Levitus data set and NOAA/AVHRR(SST), p$CO_2$ have been accumulated and applied. Then effort has to be made fur promotion of this study to correlate and parameterize p$CO_2$ in the mixed Layer with different physical and biochemical parameters. and further attribute this huge historical data sets and NOAA/AVHRR(SST) data to estimate p$CO_2$. In this paper we analyzed more interrelationship between the model and ship/satellite data set. Finally, the inter-annual variations of p$CO_2$ in sea are presented and discussed.

  • Traditionally, electrical power systems had the vertically-integrated industry structures based on the economics of scale. However power systems have been recently reformed to increase the energy efficiency of the power system. According to these trends, Korean power industry has been partially restructured, and the competitive generation market was opened in 2001. In competitive electric markets, correct demand data are one of the most important issue to maintain the flexible electric markets as well as the reliable power systems. However, the measuring load data can have the uncertainty because of mechanical trouble, communication jamming, and other things. To obtain the reliable load data, an efficient evaluation technique to adust the missing load data is needed. This paper analyzes the load pattern of historical real data and then the turned ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average) model, PCHIP(Piecewise Cubic Interporation) and Branch & Bound method are applied to seek the missing parameters. The proposed method is tested under a variety of conditions and tested with historical measured data from the Korea Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO).

  • Traditionally, electrical power systems had formed the vertically integrated industry structures based on the economics of scale. However, power systems have been recently reformed to increase their energy efficiency. According to these trends, the Korean power industry underwent partial reorganization and competition in the generation market was initiated in 2001. In competitive electric markets, accurate load data is one of the most important issues to maintaining flexibility in the electric markets as well as reliability in the power systems. In practice, the measuring load data can be uncertain because of mechanical trouble, communication jamming, and other issues. To obtain reliable load data, an efficient evaluation technique to adjust the missing load data is required. This paper analyzes the load pattern of historical real data and then the tuned ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average), PCHIP (Piecewise Cubic Interpolation) and Branch & Bound method are applied to seek the missing parameters. The proposed method is tested under a variety of conditions and also tested against historical measured data from the Korea Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO).

  • Since the preservation of monuments is very important to human societies, different methods are required to preserve historic structures. In this paper, 3D model of arch stone bridge at Pont Saint Martin, Aosta, Italy, was simulated by 1660 integrated separate stones using ABAQUS$^{(R)}$ software to investigate the seismic susceptibility of the bridge. The main objective of this research was to study a method of preservation of the historical stone bridge against possible earthquakes using FRP techniques. The nonlinear behavior model of materials used theory of plasticity based on Drucker-Prager yield criterion. Then, contact behavior between the block and mortar was modeled. Also, Seismosignal software was used to collect data related to 1976 Friuli Earthquake Italy, which constitutes a real seismic loading. The results show that, retrofitting of the arch stone bridge using FRP techniques decreased displacement of stones of spandrel walls, which prevents the collapse of stones.

  • In this study, we evaluated the chemical and physical properties of structural steel, which is the most basic material for steel structures and reinforcement concrete structures in modern period. We theorized the technical data for the research of technical history of modern heritage structures by analyzing the product system and its quality control of structural steel used in modern historical heritages. The results of this study are as follow; first, the rounded bars were used in most of modern heritage structures. But in the case of Waegwan railroad bridge, the deformed bars were used in spit of not using in Japan after the great earthquake of Kantou. Second, the structural steel was good in terms of quality control, but It has brittle properties because it was not manufactured by heat treatment process.

  • The logistic model and the Bass model have diverse names and formulae in diffusion theory. This diversity makes users or readers confused while it also contributes to the flexibility of modeling. The method of handling the integration constant, which is generated in process of deriving the closed form solution of the differential equation for a diffusion model, results in two different 'actual' models. We rename the actual four models and propose the usage of the models with respect to the purpose of model applications. The application purpose would be the explanation of historical diffusion pattern or the forecasting of future demand. Empirical validation with 86 historical diffusion data shows that misuse of the models can draw improper conclusions for the explanation of historical diffusion pattern.
