The purpose of this study is to reveal the development process of modern repair systems in the Korean peninsula. Sasungjeon, one of the main buildings of Jangansa temple located in Geumgangsan, was repaired from 1941 to 1944. It was the very last restoration work of historic wooden architecture performed during the Japanese colonial era. This work was delayed multiple times because of insufficient materials and human resources. The Bureau of Education(學務局), which was in charge of repair work, understood that the problems of the repair system and suggested reorganizing the system as a solution. This study examined the repair work of Sasungjeon as a background of the bureau's suggestion and considered this suggestion as an attempt to transform the repair system.
This study aims to find out the change trend of the existing vacant houses in the small and medium sized farming city. And the using method of those houses is proposed in this paper. The use of Hi-Tech in cultural heritage preservation and the promotion of cultural heritage values in general, particularly artifacts, opens new opportunities for attracting tourists while also posing a challenge due to the need to reward high-quality excursions to visitors historical and cultural values. Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Hi-Tech in new building management have been widely adopted in the construction industry; however, Historic Building Information Modeling (HBIM) is an exciting challenge in 3D modeling and building management. For those reasons, the Scan-to-HBIM approach involves generating an HBIM model for existing buildings from the point cloud data collected by Terrestrial 3D Laser Scanner integrated with Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), contributes to spatial historic sites simulation for virtual experiences. Therefore, this study aims to (1) generate the application of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality to Historic Building Information Modeling - based workflows in a case study which is a monument in the city; (2) evaluate the application of these technologies to improve awareness of visitors related to the promotion of historical values by surveying the experience before and after using this application. The findings shed light on the barriers that prevent users from utilizing technologies and problem-solving solutions. According to the survey results, after experiencing virtual tours through applications and video explanations, participant's perception of the case study improved. When combined with emerging Hi-Tech and immersive interactive games, the Historic Building Information Modeling helps increase information transmission to improve visitor awareness and promote heritage values.
This study is aimed to investigate the characteristics of the elevations in the contemporary multi-family residential buildings in Paris. The survey was performed by studying 30 buildings which had won the multi-family residential project competitions, held in Paris in 2011. Since 30 buildings in the survey will be constructed in Paris in a couple of years, current trends of the elevations of the multi-family residential buildings can be extracted. Historically and also currently, in France, the multi-family housing has been studied to solve the various social problems; especially in Paris where the historical buildings and the modern and the contemporary buildings stand together in perfect harmony. The uniform elevations of the multi-family residential buildings in Korea, have been consist problems in the country. By studying the building elevations in Paris, the solutions to solve the current problems and to improve the situation, can be found. The study will be discussed in three different categories. First of all, the volume and the mass of building in the survey buildings, will be analyzed. Secondly, the openings in the facade, such as the windows and the balconies of the survey projects, will be analyzed. Finally, the materials and the colors of the facade will be discussed. By analyzing the elevations of the multi-family residential building projects, which had won the competitions, and are soon to be built in Paris, the various experiments and the attempts in building elevations, currently happening in Paris which is mostly known as a Haussmann style city, can be presumed, as well as the willingness of the city to reserve the historic buildings in the city.
This Hee Kyeong Ru, a kind of "Nu-Gak" in Gwangju is a high storied old government official building memorizes the recovery of Gwangju area reputation. Hee Kyeong Ru, literally means, delightful and happy occasions. This kind of the buildings were build for the receptions and the banquets for the high government officials in travelling areas to areas. It provided very high formality as compared to the buildings in the mountains. Nu-Gak buildings have a lot in common, since they had been constructed under the influence of the then time period and for the common reasons. Several records about Hee Kyeong Ru can be found in the old literatures, poetries, pictures and atlases. Also, we can see the shape of the building and the location through the mark in the old map. According to the historic materials, Nu-Gak buildingsof other old goveenment offices with Hee Kyeong Ru are similar to that of the size and construction. So we can draw the common points of the existing old official buildings and could assume the original form of Hee Kyeong Ru. In conclusion, we need to restore Hee Kyeng Ru as the historical meaningful building and use it as a representative cultural building in Gwangju.
This study aimed to present the possibilities that a variety of conversions can be made in terms of the spatial function through the situation analysis and in-depth case studies, focusing on the cases of the conversion of historic buildings. Literature analysis and case analysis technique were conducted as the research methods. For the literature analysis, the researcher selected 105 cases of conversion-type buildings by recombining and reanalyzing them to space functional changes; the SPSS PC+ 18.0 program was used as the analysis tool to conduct a frequency analysis and cross analysis. In-depth analysis was conducted to investigate the overview of the architecture, building history, spatial functional changes, space program, conservation value, and the conserved parts by selecting 9 cases in Korean and foreign countries that have been recently converted through literature analysis and the results of the study were as follows. 1) As a result of analyzing the changes in function, the highest percentage of the cases was conversion into the cultural function (63.8%). 2) There were cases for conversion into the commercial function, business function, accommodation function and educational function besides cultural function. 3) As a result of spatial program, the attempts to increase the utilization of the building generally by applying the complex space with more than two functions could be seen. 4) The buildings with historical and architectural value were conserved most of the outer wall and some portion of internal parts; the buildings with symbolic value were renovated largely, while preserving symbolic parts; and the buildings with practical value were renovated in a way that maintains the structural parts while changing the interior space to be suitable for their function.
The purpose of this study is to reveal the wood joinery technique in the ancient era. Joinery is one of the core techniques in constructing timber frame architecture in the Korean peninsula. This study collects the data of 284 members excavated at the Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond and analyzes the details such as length, thickness, width, joint types, joint shapes. With the result of the analysis, this study tries to indicate the level of wood joinery techniques in ancient buildings.
