In this study, the heats of absorption of $CO_2$ with aqueous solutions of primary, secondary and tertiary amine aqueous solutions were measured in the commercial reaction calorimeter SIMULAR (HEL, UK). The heats of absorption of 30 wt% amine aqueous solutions of MEA (monoethanolamine, primary amine), EAE(2-(ethylamino)ethanol, secondary amine), and MDEA (methyldiethanolamine, tertiary amine) were measured as function of the $CO_2$ loading ratio at $40^{\circ}C$, in each case. In addition, the heats of absorption of sterically-hindered amine aqueous solutions of AMP(2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol, primary amine), DEA(diethanolamine, secondary amine) and TEA(triethanolamine, tertiary amine) were measured to observe the steric hindrance effect. The heat of absorption is high in the following order regardless of the steric hindrance: primary amine > secondary amine > tertiary amine. The heats of absorption of amines having sterically-hindered substituents surrounding nitrogen atoms are relatively low compare to that of sterically-free amines, although the difference is very small.
UV transmission spectra of water-soluble acrylic resin films containing hydroxybenzophenolic, hydroxyphenylbenzotriazolic UV absorber and HALS(hindered amine light stabilizer) were investigated by exposure time(before exposure weathered for 160 and 320hours) in QUV Weather-Ometer. Also the YID(yellowness index difference), LID(lightness index difference) and CD(color difference) of dried water-soluble acrylic resin films and the coated woods of Larix leptolepis were analyzed by addition level of UV absorber(0, 1, 2 and 3%) and HALS(0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5%) and by exposure time in QUV Weather-Ometer. They showed no significant effects on UV transmission spectra of dried water-soluble acrylic resin films in the range of 300 to 400nm irrespective of exposure time. However, UV transmission decreased as increase of exposure time. UV transmission spectra were lower in dried water-soluble acrylic resin films containing hydroxybenzophenolic UV absorber and HALS than in these containing hydroxyphenylbenzotriazolic UV absorber and HALS in the range of 350 to 400nm. The least YID, LID and CD in the coated woods of Larix leptolepis appeared at the addition level of 3%, based on non-volatile content, in hydroxybenzophenolic and hydroxyphenylbenzotriazolic UV absorber, and of 1.5% in HALS to water-soluble acrylic resin.
New polymeric photostabilizers containing hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) were prepared by the reaction of liquid polyisoprene rubber grafted maleic anhydride (MAH) and 2,2,5,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidinol (TMPO). Their chemical composition and physical properties were characterized by titration, GPC and TGA analysis. The effects of polymeric HALS on the photooxidation of the styrene-butadiene rubber were studied from the UV, IR spectral changes, and photo-crosslinking was examined by the measurement of the insoluble fraction. The photooxidation of SBR upon irradiation was inhibited by addition of the new polymeric HALS. The extraction resistance of new polymeric photostabilizer was much better than that of the low molecular weight compound which is prepared by the reaction of MAH and TMPO. The new polymeric HALS ate fairly compatible with the SBR.
As the refractive index of the prism layer becomes higher, the optical performance of the prism sheet gets better and the efficiency of the LCD backlight unit is improved. In order to increase the refractive index of the prism layer, the ultraviolet curing type resins were prepared by mixing high refractive index materials containing aromatic groups and the multi-functional reactive diluents. By using 9,9-bis [4-(2-acryloyloxyethoxy)phenyl] fluorene, the refractive index of the prism layer was increased up to 1.58 and the brightness of the backlight unit was improved. Since the light source used in the backlight unit caused the yellowing in the prism sheet and deteriorated the brightness accordingly, the hindered amine light stabilizer was used to improve the yellowing resistance successfully.
This research was basically carried out to extend the application of $CO_2$ absorption processes for flue-gas system, which are mainly applied to a reforming process in petro-chemical industries. In general, MEA absorbent has some problems in flue-gas treatment, such as, degradation, regeneration energy and absorption capacities. As we known, sterical hindered amine, typically AMP (2-amino 2-methyl 1-propanol), have a good potential to improve these problems. In this paper, the characteristics of $CO_2$ absorption in aqueous AMP solution were measured and compared with that of MEA. It has been found that the $CO_2$ absorption capacity in AMP is double than that of MEA in the low $CO_2$ partial pressure system such as flue-gas. Also, the equilibriums of $CO_2$-AMP system were partially suggested, which are essentially needed to design the absorption process.
In this study, hindered amine-grafted graphene oxide (HA-GO) with antioxidant properties was prepared and incorporated into Nafion-based composite membranes as an effective filler material for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell applications. HA-GO was synthesized via a ring-opening reaction between amine groups in 4-amino-2, 2, 6, 6-tetramethyl piperidine and epoxy groups on the surface of GO. Nafion-based composite membranes containing different weight contents of HA-GO were fabricated to compare the polymer electrolyte membrane properties with those of the pure Nafion membrane. The composite membranes with HA-GO were found to have better mechanical properties, chemical stability, and proton conductivity than the pure Nafion membrane. In particular, the conductivity retention behavior confirmed by the decrease in proton conductivity after Fenton's test of the composite membranes was better than that of the pure Nafion membrane due to the incorporation of HA-GO with effective antioxidant properties.

Three kinds of thermal stabilizers for nylon 4 were synthesized to incorporate both hindered amine groups and methylene units with various lengths. It is expected that the hindered amine groups play a role in the capture of degradation-triggering species. Considering sequence rules, hydrogen bonding formed between nylon 4 and the stabilizers is optimized to alter the lengths of the methylene units in the stabilizers. As a result, it was found that a tetramethylene unit in the stabilizer is an optimal length for hydrogen bonding in terms of isothermal thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Considering the slight and often negligible improvement of thermal stability of nylon 4 containing commercially-available nylon 6 stabilizers, retardation of thermal degradation has been substantially improved upon.

Thermal amine scrubbing is the most advanced CO2 capture technique but its largescale application is hindered due to the large heat requirement during solvent regeneration step. The addition of a solid metal oxide catalysts can optimize the CO2 desorption rate and thus minimize the energy consumption. Herein, we evaluate the solvent regeneration performance of Monoethanolamine (MEA) and Diethanolamine (DEA) solvents without and with two metal oxide catalysts (TiO2 and V2O5) within a temperature range of 40-86℃. The solvent regeneration performance was evaluated in terms of CO2 desorption rate and overall amount of CO2 desorbed during the experiments. Both catalysts improved the solvent regeneration performance by desorbing greater amounts of CO2 with higher CO2 desorption rates at low temperature. Improvements of 86% and 50% in the CO2 desorption rate were made by the catalysts for MEA and DEA solvents, respectively. The total amount of the desorbed CO2 also improved by 17% and 13% from MEA and DEA solvents, respectively. The metal oxide catalyst-aided regeneration of amine solutions can be a new approach to minimize the heat requirement during solvent regeneration and thus can remove a primary shortfall of this technology.

The effect of carbonic anhydrase on $CO_2$ absorption rates and the heat of reaction were evaluated in various amine solutions for post combustion $CO_2$ capture process. The $CO_2$ absorption rate was analyzed in 30 wt% MEA, AMP, DMEA, MDEA aqueous solutions with and without carbonic anhydrase (250 mg/L) from bovine erythrocyte. $CO_2$ absorption rates were increased in all solutions with carbonic anhydrase. The effect of carbonic anhydrase on absorption rates was more in tertiary amine (DMEA and MDEA) solutions than in primary amine (MEA) and hindered amine (AMP) solutions. The heat of reaction of MEA, DMEA, MDEA aqueous solutions with and without carbonic anhydrase were measured using reaction calorimeter. Carbonic anhydrase decreased the heat of absorption in all solutions. The results suggested that tertiary amines that have the excellent desorption ability were suitable for applying carbonic anhydrase to the post combustion $CO_2$ capture process and the effect of carbonic anhydrase was best in MDEA solution.
