Both negative and positive substrate bias effects on the structural properties and field-emission characteristics are investigated. carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are grown on Ni catalysts employing an inductively-coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD) method. Characterization using various techniques, such as field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Auger spectroscopy (AES), and Raman spectroscopy, shows that the physical dimension as well as the crystal quality of CNTs grown can be changed and controlled by the application of substrate bias during CNT growth. It is for the first time observed that the prevailing growth mechanism of CNTs, which is either due to tip-driven growth or based-on-catalyst growth, may be influenced by substrate biasing. It is also seen that negative biasing would be more effectively role in the vertical-alignment of CNTs compared to positive biasing. However, the CNTs grown under the positively bias condition display much better electron emission capabilities than those grown under negative bias or without bias. The reasons for all the measured data regarding the structural properties of CNTs are discussed to confirm the correlation with the observed field-emissive properties.
Graphene sheets formed by the reaction of carbon monoxide (CO) with aluminum sulfide ($Al_2S_3$) at reaction temperatures ${\leq}$ 800 $^{\circ}$ were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The graphene sheets, formed as CO was reduced to gaseous carbon by the reaction with $Al_2S_3$, in the temperature range 800 - 1100 $^{circ}C$, did not exhibit their characteristic XRD peaks because of the small number of graphene layers and/or low crystallinity of graphene sheets. Raman spectra of graphene sheets showed that the intensity ratio of the D band to the G band decreased and the 2D band was shifted to higher frequencies with increasing reaction temperature, indicating that the number of graphene layers increased with increasing reaction temperature.

This paper describes a simple real-time monitoring system for use in measurement subsystem of contact wire and geometry of overhead contact wire in electric railway. The system has been consists of a high speed CMOS camera with resolution $1024\;{\times}\;1280$ pixels, line type laser source with a power equal to 300 mW, and PC-based image acquisition system with PCI Express slot. National instrument LabVIEW (8.0) and vision acquisition software have been used in application programming interface for image acquisition, display, and storage with a frequency of sampling of 500 acquisitions per second.

There are a lot of multimedia functions getting included in mobile devices recently, not only simple audio but visual functions as well, such as video playing, game and web browsing. Such the visual multimedia functions brought the strong requirement for much bigger LCD Display and high resolution. And the brightness of LCD is also one of major requirements and it is required to be more bright However, LCD brightness is limited to increase because of power consumption. It occupies nearly 30% of the whole system power. This thesis suggests an effective and simple method of adjusting the LCD backlight brightness, considering a characteristic of battery and user pattern.
Recently, the fringe-field switching (FFS) mode in liquid crystal displays has been used mainly for high image quality and high-resolution liquid crystal displays (LCDs). In this review paper, the fundamental switching principle of the FFS mode, with its excellence over other LC modes in electro-optic performance, will be described. In addition, the development history, present technical issues, and future of the FFS LCD will be discussed.

To date, rubbing has been widely used to align LC molecules uniformly. Although rubbing can be simple, it has fundamental problems such as the generation of defects by dust and static electricity, and difficulty in achieving a uniform LC alignment on a large substrate. Therefore, noncontact alignment has been investigated. Ion beam induced alignment method, which provides controllability, nonstop process, and high resolution display. We investigated the high pretilt angle effects on electro-optical properties of ion beam (IB)-irradiated liquid crystal cells. on a blended polymer surface. High pretilt angle of liquid crystals IB-irradiated on a blended polymer surface including such as 5% and 10% of homeotropic polymer contents can' be achieved. The threshold voltages of IB-irradiated twisted nematic (TN) cells on a blended polymer surface decrease with increasing the pretilt angle. Also, the rising time of IB-irradiated TN cells decreases with increasing the pretilt angle. However the decay time of IB-irradiated TN cells increases with increasing the pretilt angle. Consequently, the electro-optical properties of IB-irradiated TN cells depend strongly on the pretilt angle in a blended polymer surface.
According to the recent trend to raise the horizontal scan frequency to increase the image refinement of the High Definition TV and High Resolution Display, material with low core loss is required for the ferrite core for deflection yoke, which is secured even in the high frequency range. liking notice of the influence on the fine structure of Mg-Zn ferrite by the chemical com position and process, low temperature sintering was proceeded. Cu was added to the low loss Mg-Zn system ferrite. After select-ing MgO, ZnO, $Fe_2$$O_3$, CuO, MgO was substituted for CuO while varying the composition ratio. Then the sample was sintered for 3 hours between $980~1350^{\circ}C$ Magnetic permeability, power consumption, shrinkage rate, core loss were measured. The start-ing temperature to test the shrinkage of the sample was nearby $900^{\circ}C$, it increased according to the substitution process of Cu, and the firing temperature was lowered about $-50~-75^{\circ}C$ alongside of the process.

Poly-Si TFTs(polycrystalline silicon thin film transistors) fabricated on a low cost glass substrate have attracted a considerable amount of attention for pixel elements and peripheral driving circuits in AMLCS(active matrix liquid crystal display). In order to apply poly-Si TFTs for high resolution AMLCD, a high operating frequency and reliable circuit performances are desired. A new poly-Si TFT with CLBT(counter doped lateral body terminal) is proposed and fabricated to suppress kink effects and to improve the device stability. And this proposed device with BC(buried channel) is fabricated to increase ON-current and operating frequency. Although the troublesome LDD structure is not used in the proposed device, a low OFF-current is successfully obtained by removing the minority carrier through the CLBT. We have measured the dynamic properties of the poly-Si TFT device and its circuit. The reliability of the TFTs and their circuits after AC stress are also discussed in our paper. Our experimental results show that the BC enables the device to have high mobility and switching frequency (33MHz at $V_{DD}$ = 15 V). The minority carrier elimination of the CLBT suppresses kink effects and makes for superb dynamic reliability of the CMOS circuit. We have analyzed the mechanism in order to see why the ring oscillators do not operate by analyzing AC stressed device characteristics.
An organic light-emitting diode(OLED) has advantages of low power driving, self light-emitting, wide viewing angle, excellent high resolution, full color, high reproduction, fast response speed, simple manufacturing process, or the like. However, there are still a number of challenges to get over in order to put it to practical use as a high performance display. First of all, the most important thing is to improve the efficiency of the OLED element in order to commercialize it. To this end, its efficiency can be improved by lowering the driving voltage through the improvement of structure of the OLED element and the application of new organic substance. Therefore, in this study, we have manufactured a red OLED element by applying fluorescent dyes to the emitting layer of the element having the structure of ITO/TPD/ Znq2+DCJTB /Znq2/Al and the structure of ITO/CuPc/NPB/ Alq3+DCJTB/Alq3/Al, in order to light-emitting various colors or improve the brightness and the efficiency, and then we have evaluated its electrical and optical characteristics.
