  • Recently, According to companies of TFT LCD are making large sized products more and more. In the vortex of Products with a monitor and LCD TV is applied in a technique of a high viewing angle(FFS, IPS, VA). Also, as a high luminance, high speed response time, high degree of a color purity, and so on are continuing to develop a high performance, it is necessary to improve a specific character of high luminance that apply to LCD TV as a LCD BLU. Because a LCD panel for TV usually has a lower resolution that compare to a monitor, the structure of present backlight system can't put out its power even though it has a merit in transmission. Therefore, the examination of improvement about the high luminance direct typed BLU for LCD TV that presupposes several uses of CCFL(Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) or EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp)is actively being progressed. Although it is necessary to increase the number of lamps for applying high performance by the direct type, in this case, because we can design the character of luminance for adoption of high performance. We can satisfy with a level of luminance for LCD TV. Accordingly, we analyzed a change of the number of CCFL, mechanical and optical character to produce the direct typed backlight in 32inches spec. Consequently, we achieved luminance of 6597nit,which was including polarization film, and secured the standard for LCD TV.

  • In this paper, we propose a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) binary image sensor with a gate/body-tied (GBT) PMOSFET-type photodetector for high-speed operation. The GBT photodetector of an active pixel sensor (APS) consists of a floating gate ($n^+$-polysilicon) tied to the body (n-well) of the PMOSFET. The p-n junction photodiode that is used in a conventional APS has a good dynamic range but low photosensitivity. On the other hand, a high-gain GBT photodetector has a high level of photosensitivity but a narrow dynamic range. In addition, the pixel size of the GBT photodetector APS is less than that of the conventional photodiode APS because of its use of a PMOSFET-type photodetector, enabling increased image resolution. A CMOS binary image sensor can be designed with simple circuits, as a complex analog to digital converter (ADC) is not required for binary processing. Because of this feature, the binary image sensor has low power consumption and high speed, with the ability to switch back and forth between a binary mode and an analog mode. The proposed CMOS binary image sensor was simulated and designed using a standard CMOS $0.18{\mu}m$ process.

  • Using a series of medical tomograms, we can reconstruct internal organs or other objects of interest and generate 3-D images. It is generally accepted that the axial resolution determined by two sequential image slices is lower than the planar resolution in one image slices. Therefore, various methods of interpolation were developed for an accurate display of reconstructed images. In this paper, a new algorithm for 3-D reconstruction of the medical images such as MRI and X-ray CT is suggested. The algorithm is shape-based and utilizes parts of the gray-level information. We extend the conventional shape-based interpolation of the binary images to the gray-scale images using the shortest distance map. Using this new algorithm, We could reduce the execution time for interpolation while keeping similar high quality of the reconstructed images with reduced execution time and is applicable to the various medical tomograms.

  • The ISDB-T(Integrated Service Digital Broadcasting Terrestrial) can be used in the multipath and impulsive noise, also it provide good performance over mobile reception environment since it use the OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) based transmission technology and time interleaving technology. One segment and full segment are divided according to the number of the assigned segment. And one-segment broadcasting receiver can design and implement without high levels of technology than the full-segment broadcasting receiver using 64QAM(64 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) since it uses QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modulation/demodulation. However, it has a constraint in the display size and resolution due to data-rate limits. In this paper, we design and implementation of full-segment ISDB-T receiver module which support HD resolution for set-top box, digital TV, navigation. In experimental results, the implemented full-segment ISDB-T receiver module was satisfactory for all of the desired functions.

  • Three-dimensional multimedia industry such as 3D TV, movie and broadcast has been developed vividly. For generating 3D contents with high quality, virtual auditory display, so called VAD, is being researched to offer more realistic experience to listeners. When people render VAD using headphones or two speakers, head-related transfer function(HRTF) plays a key role. The best solution is measuring all individuals' HRTFs, but it is hard to measure all listeners' HRTFs. To overcome this difficulty, many research groups have tried to construct their own measurement system and to build HRTF databases. However, some of them have not enough subjects or spatial resolution and they are mainly focused on Caucasian. There exists difference between Korean and Caucasian in a view of physical features. In other words, if Koreans hear three-dimensional sound rendered by HRTF database based on Caucasian, performance might be hindered. To verify this possibility and remedy the drawbacks, construction of new HRTF database aimed at Korean is needed. Therefore, our laboratory built HRTF measurement system which can measure HRTF of three-dimensional space with dense spatial resolution. With this system, 55 Korean males and 45 females' HRTFs were measured and Korean HRTF database was built based on these data.

  • Since three-dimensional (3D) images reconstructed in interval imaging technique are related to the resolution of elemental images, there has been a problem that ray information of elemental images increases largely in order to obtain high-resolution 3D images. In this paper, to overcome this problem, a new unidirectional integral imaging based on pinhole model is proposed. Proposed method provides a new type of unidirectional elemental images, which are simply obtained by magnifying single horizontal pixel line of each elemental image to the vertical size of lenslet using ray analysis based on pinhole model and used to display 3D images. In proposed method, reduction effect of the ray information of elemental images can be obtained by scarifying vortical parallax. Feasibility of the proposed scheme is experimentally demonstrated and its results are presented.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were coated with undoped zinc oxide (ZnO) or 5 wt% gallium-incorporated ZnO (GZO) using various deposition conditions. The CNTs were directly grown on conical-type tungsten substrates at $700^{\circ}C$ using inductively coupled plasma-chemical vapor deposition. The pulsed laser deposition technique was used to deposit the ZnO and GZO thin films with very low stress. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy were used to monitor the variations in the morphology and microstructure of CNTs prior to and after ZnO or GZO coating. The formation of ZnO and GZO films on CNTs was confirmed using energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. In comparison to the as-grown (uncoated) CNT emitter, the CNT emitter that was coated with a thin (10 nm) GZO film showed remarkably improved field emission characteristics, such as the emission current of $325\;{\mu}A$ at 1 kV and the threshold field of $1.96\;V/{\mu}m$ at $0.1\;{\mu}A$, and it also exhibited the highly stable operation of emission current up to 40 h.

  • Multiple projectors with partially overlapping regions can be used to project a seamless image on a large projection surface. With the advent of high-resolution photography, such systems are gaining popularity. Experts set up such projection systems by subjectively identifying the types of errors induced by the system in the projected images and rectifying them by optimizing (correcting) the parameters associated with the system. This requires substantial time and effort, thus making it difficult to set up such systems. Moreover, comparing the performance of different multi-projector display (MPD) systems becomes difficult because of the subjective nature of evaluation. In this work, we present a framework to quantitatively determine the quality of an MPD system and any image projected using such a system. We have divided the quality assessment into geometric and photometric qualities. For geometric quality assessment, we use Feature Similarity Index (FSIM) and distance-based Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT). For photometric quality assessment, we propose to use a measure incorporating Spectral Angle Mapper (SAM), Intensity Magnitude Ratio (IMR) and Perceptual Color Difference (ΔE). We have tested the proposed framework and demonstrated that it provides an acceptable method for both quantitative evaluation of MPD systems and estimation of the perceptual quality of any image projected by them.
