  • This paper presents a high-performance dual-circularly polarized feed employing a dielectric-filled circular waveguide. Novel features are incorporated in the proposed feed, such as a dielectric rod radiator for high gain and good impedance matching; dual quarter-wave chokes for low axial ratio over wide angles and for low back radiation; an integrated septum polarizer; and two end-launch-type coaxial-to-waveguide transitions. The proposed feed shows excellent performance at 5.0 GHz to 5.2 GHz.

  • Animal feed additives are used worldwide for many different reasons. Some help to cover the needs of essential nutrients and others to increase growth performance, feed intake and therefore optimize feed utilization. They can positively effect technological properties and product quality. The health status of animals with a high growth performance is a predominant argument in the choice of feed additives. In many countries the use of feed additives is more and more questioned by the consumers: substances such as antibiotics and $\beta$-agonists with expected high risks are banned in animal diets. Therefore, the feed industry is highly interested in valuable alternatives which could be accepted by the consumers. Probiotics, prebiotics, enzymes and highly available minerals as well as herbs can be seen as alternatives to metabolic modifiers and antibiotics.

  • This study was undertaken to develop the feed rate control system for the head feed thresher by making use of the microprocessor and to evaluate the response of the system to a various threshing conditions. It was verified the performance of the control system through experiments. Control conditions were determined based on the simulation results of control system. The control system set at RH=500rpm, RL=480rpm for the bundle feed was considered optimum to give a high threshing capability and still to stabilize the feeding seed regardless of the bundle size. The control system for the continuous spread feed set at the range of LH=15mm, and LL=12mm gave a high control performance for the feeding mass of 1.1Kg/m and lower tested. In addition, the feed rate proportionality constant should be set lower than one in order to keep the rotational speed of threshing cylinder within the range of 500~520rpm.

  • This study was carried out to develop high-performance feed using selenium-sorbed $Ca^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite A. The contents of Se increased with increasing reaction temperature and the content of $Ca^{2+}$ ions in $Ca^{2+}$-exchanged zeolite A. A synthesized high-performance feed (0.306 ppm) was applied to poultry farming for 4 and 7 weeks, respectively. Se contents in chicken meats and eggs were 18.8, 27.2, and 94.1 ppb and 73.7, 14.9, and 64.5 ppb for control (retail chicken meats), 4, and 7 weeks, respectively; Ca contents were 3.8, 9.9, and 11.9 ppm and 48.6, 48.3, and 53.6 ppm, respectively. In conclusion, Se and Ca contents in chicken meats increased as feeding periods increased, but significant differences were not observed in the eggs.

  • This paper presents the design of the feed forward controller to improve on the non-interference control performance of a single PWM converter in parallel for high-speed trains. The feed forward controller is designed to minimize the interference generated by converter switching in parallel operation of PWM converters. The gain value of the feed forward controller is calculated by inductance values of the input transformer. However, it is difficult to decide this gain value exactly because inductance values are changed by the operation condition of an input transformer. In this paper, the proposed design of feed forward controller can exactly decide the gain value using the leakage inductances estimated by detecting the variation of input current. the validity of the proposed feed forward controller is proved through the simulation results.

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of the broiler's genotype ($G_t$) and ambient temperature ($T_a$) on performance and core body temperature ($T_core$) of broiler chicks. A factorial arrangement of two $G_t$ (Hubbard and ISA J57 chicks) and two $T_a$ (moderate, $23{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$ and hot, $33{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$) were used in this study. Performance data (body weight gain, feed intake and feed:gain ratio) were determined weekly for six weeks. Chicks' $T_core$ was measured using a biotelemetric system between Weeks five and six. Results showed that body weight gain and feed intake were significantly high, and feed:gain ratio was significantly low for Hubbard chicks compared to those of ISA J57 chicks. High $T_a$ significantly reduced weight gain and feed intake. Furthermore, the reduction in body weight gain and feed intake under the hot $T_a$ was more pronounced for Hubbard chicks than those of the ISA J57 chicks resulting in significant $G_t$ by $T_a$ interaction. Chicks grown under moderate $T_a$ had significantly lower $T_core$ than those grown under hot $T_a$. The $T_core$ of the Hubbard chicks was significantly lower than that of the ISA J57 at the moderate $T_a$ while under the hot $T_a$, the magnitude of the change in $T_core$ was more pronounced in Hubbard chicks than that of ISA J57; this resulted in a significant $G_t$ by $T_a$ interaction. The results of this study indicate that chicks with higher potential for growth under thermo-neutral temperature are more susceptible to heat stress than chicks with lower potential for growth. This maybe due, at least in part, to their lower body $T_core$ under moderate temperature and to the lesser ability of these fast growing chicks to regulate their $T_core$ when exposed to heat stress, as was clearly shown on these birds' performance.

  • High-speed feed drive systems have been widely used in the manufacturing and semiconductor industries. Specifications for high-speed systems require more advanced capabilities than conventional feed drive systems. It is necessary to devise special design concepts to achieve the level of performance for high-speed feed drive systems. In this paper, an integrated design method is proposed for high-speed feed drive systems in which the interactions between mechanical and electrical subsystems ought to be considered simultaneously during the design process. Based on the integrated design method, a nonlinear optimal design procedure of mechanical subsystems considering the Abbe and radius errors is accomplished through the design process of electrical subsystems satisfying the control stability and the saturation condition of actuators as well as the relative stability. Both mechanical and electrical parameters are considered as design variables. Simulations and numerical case studies show that the integrated design method of high-speed feed drive systems creates results satisfying the desired performances of mechatronic systems.
