  • This paper describes the hardware implementation of elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) used as a core operation in elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA). The ECC processor supports eight operation modes (four point operations, four modular operations) on the NIST P-521 curve. In order to minimize computation complexity required for point scalar multiplication (PSM), the radix-4 Booth encoding scheme and modified Jacobian coordinate system were adopted, which was based on the complexity analysis for five PSM algorithms and four different coordinate systems. Modular multiplication was implemented using a modified 3-Way Toom-Cook multiplication and a modified fast reduction algorithm. The ECC processor was implemented on xczu7ev FPGA device to verify hardware operation. Hardware resources of 101,921 LUTs, 18,357 flip-flops and 101 DSP blocks were used, and it was evaluated that about 370 PSM operations per second were achieved at a maximum operation clock frequency of 45 MHz.

  • This article presents a computationally efficient framework for multi-objective seismic design optimization of steel moment-resisting frame (MRF) structures based on the nonlinear dynamic analysis procedure. This framework employs the uniform damage distribution philosophy to minimize the weight (initial cost) of the structure at different levels of damage. The preliminary framework was recently proposed by the authors based on the single excitation and the nonlinear static (pushover) analysis procedure, in which the effects of record-to-record variability as well as higher-order vibration modes were neglected. The present study investigates the reliability of the previous framework by extending the proposed algorithm using the nonlinear dynamic design procedure (optimization under multiple ground motions). Three benchmark structures, including 4-, 8-, and 12-story steel MRFs, representing the behavior of low-, mid-, and high-rise buildings, are utilized to evaluate the proposed framework. The total weight of the structure and the maximum inter-story drift ratio (IDRmax) resulting from the average response of the structure to a set of seven ground motion records are considered as two conflicting objectives for the optimization problem and are simultaneously minimized. The results of this study indicate that the optimization under several ground motions leads to almost similar outcomes in terms of optimization objectives to those are obtained from optimization under pushover analysis. However, investigation of optimal designs under a suite of 22 earthquake records reveals that the damage distribution in buildings designed by the nonlinear dynamic-based procedure is closer to the uniform distribution (desired target during the optimization process) compared to those designed according to the pushover procedure.

  • This paper reports the mode shapes of Seohae cable-stayed bridge extracted by TDD technique. In order to record total 72 acceleration points in the vertical direction of the bridge deck, a custom made data acquisition system with LAN communication has been especially developed and a set of ambient vibration tests has been conducted. For the measured acceleration responses, total twenty four mode shapes up to 2Hz has been extracted by TDD technique. The extracted mode shapes include many new modes that have not been identified in the current on-line health monitoring system installed in the bridge. It is confirmed that TDD technique is the most effective in extracting the high resolution mode shapes on a particularly long span bridge.

  • The plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are specialized hybrid electric vehicles that have the potential to obtain enough energy for average daily commuting from batteries. The PHEV battery would be recharged from the power grid at home or at work and would thus allow for a reduction in the overall fuel consumption. This paper proposes an integrated power electronics interface for PHEVs, which consists of a novel Eight-Switch Inverter (ESI) and an interleaved DC/DC converter, in order to reduce the cost, the mass and the size of the power electronics unit (PEU) with high performance at any operating mode. In the proposed configuration, a novel Eight-Switch Inverter (ESI) is able to function as a bidirectional single-phase AC/DC battery charger/ vehicle to grid (V2G) and to transfer electrical energy between the DC-link (connected to the battery) and the electric traction system as DC/AC inverter. In addition, a bidirectional-interleaved DC/DC converter with dual-loop controller is proposed for interfacing the ESI to a low-voltage battery pack in order to minimize the ripple of the battery current and to improve the efficiency of the DC system with lower inductor size. To validate the performance of the proposed configuration, the indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed to optimize the efficiency of the AC drive system in PHEVs. The maximum efficiency of the motor is obtained by the evaluation of optimal rotor flux at any operating point, where the PSO is applied to evaluate the optimal flux. Moreover, an improved AC/DC controller based Proportional-Resonant Control (PRC) is proposed in order to reduce the THD of the input current in charger/V2G modes. The proposed configuration is analyzed and its performance is validated using simulated results obtained in MATLAB/ SIMULINK. Furthermore, it is experimentally validated with results obtained from the prototypes that have been developed and built in the laboratory based on TMS320F2808 DSP.

  • [ $Epoxy/BaTiO_3$ ] composite embedded capacitor films (ECFs) were newly designed fur high dielectric constant and low tolerance (less than ${\pm}15\%$) embedded capacitor fabrication for organic substrates. In terms of material formulation, ECFs are composed of specially formulated epoxy resin and latent curing agent, and in terms of coating process, a comma roll coating method is used for uniform film thickness in large area. Dielectric constant of $BaTiO_3\;&\;SrTiO_3$ composite ECF is measured with MIM capacitor at 100 kHz using LCR meter. Dielectric constant of $BaTiO_3$ ECF is bigger than that of $SrTiO_3$ ECF, and it is due to difference of permittivity of $BaTiO_3\;and\;SrTiO_3$ particles. Dielectric constant of $BaTiO_3\;&\;SrTiO_3$ ECF in high frequency range $(0.5\~10GHz)$ is measured using cavity resonance method. In order to estimate dielectric constant, the reflection coefficient is measured with a network analyzer. Dielectric constant is calculated by observing the frequencies of the resonant cavity modes. About both powders, calculated dielectric constants in this frequency range are about 3/4 of the dielectric constants at 1 MHz. This difference is due to the decrease of the dielectric constant of epoxy matrix. For $BaTiO_3$ ECF, there is the dielectric relaxation at $5\~9GHz$. It is due to changing of polarization mode of $BaTiO_3$ powder. In the case of $SrTiO_3$ ECF, there is no relaxation up to 10GHz. Alternative material for embedded capacitor fabrication is $epoxy/BaTiO_3$ composite embedded capacitor paste (ECP). It uses similar materials formulation like ECF and a screen printing method for film coating. The screen printing method has the advantage of forming capacitor partially in desired part. But the screen printing makes surface irregularity during mask peel-off, Surface flatness is significantly improved by adding some additives and by applying pressure during curing. As a result, dielectric layer with improved thickness uniformity is successfully demonstrated. Using $epoxy/BaTiO_3$ composite ECP, dielectric constant of 63 and specific capacitance of 5.1nF/cm2 were achieved.

  • In order to maximize the RNA accumulation and biomass production is Saccharomyces cerevisiae MTY62, a high-content RNA yeast strain, batch and fed-batch cultures were performed. Among the feeding modes of fed-batch cultures examined, the intermittent feeding mode R\`(IFB-lV), in which 50 ml of 40% molasses and 20% com steep liquor (CSL) solution was intermittently fed for 5 times, resulted in the cell concentration of 33.8 g- dry cell weight/1 and the RNA concentration of 5221 mg-/l, and RNA content of 153 mg-RNA/g-dry cell weight. The constant fed-batch with feeding mode III (CFB-III), in which the feeding rate of 40% molasses and 20% CSL solution was stepwisely decreased from 48 mph (9-13 h), to 24 mph (13-21 h), and to 18 ml/h (21∼ 48 h), gave the highest cell concentration of 42.7 g-dry ceil weigh71 and R7IA concentration of 5536 mg-RNA/1, which were about 2.4-fold and 1.9-fold increased levels, respectively, compared to the results of batch culture. However, the RNA con- tent of 130 mg-RNA/g-dry cell weight of the fed-batch was lower than that of the batch culture (171 mg-RNA/g-dry cell weight) and other fed-batch cultures. When the specific growth rates in the fed-batch cultures were increased, the RNA contents increased. This result indicates that the RNA content is adversely proportional to the cell concen- tration. However, at the same specific growth rate, the RNA content was maintained at higher level in the intermit- tent fed-batch than in the constant fed-batch culture.

  • In this paper, a chip antenna using multi-layer configuration for multi-band operation, such as GSM, DCS, pcs, WCDMA, and Mobile WiMAX for 2.3 GHz is proposed. This proposed antenna is a PIFA structure with multi-layer configuration fabricated on R04003 substrate(${\varepsilon}_r=3.4$) and its size is $22{\times}5.5{\times}4.0\;mm^3$. Multi-layer structure can effectively reduce the size of an antenna from a reuse of air-space and can achieve broad bandwidth due to decrement of parallel capacitances from the insertion air-gap to the middle layer. The proposed antenna has a broadband operation by the high order resonance modes and the resonance at the top layer. The measured bandwidths with over 45 % radiation efficiency are 80 MHz($880{\sim}960\;MHz$) at the lower band and 690 MHz($1,710{\sim}2,400\;MHz$) at the higher band.

  • In order to extract the spatio-temporal characteristics of long-term variability of the net heat flux on the sea surface in the East Asian marginal seas, empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis was conducted using data set calculated every 12 hours interval during 1978-1995. Among the first three modes explaining 73% of the total variance, the first mode having high peak at 1 year period indicates high variability area around the Sandong Peninsula and central and northeastern part of the East Sea. In the second mode which has spatial distribution of dipole type at the north and south, the peaks appear at 3.6 year and 2.3 year cycles. Time coefficient of the second EOF is believed to have close relation with the E1 Nino and has out-of-phase variation with NINO3 SST. Lagged correlation between NINO3 SST and time coefficient of the second EOF indicates four month time delay in the NINO3 SST. In the third mode which has opposite sign at the east and west, the periodicity of 6-9 year cycle has relatively clear appearance compared to other two EOFs. Also, high heat loss exceeding 800 W/$m^{2}$ in winter time occured at the south part of the Sandong Peninsula and Vladivostok. It reveals more frequent occurrence of about two times at the Sandong Peninsula than Vladivostok. The event is concentrated in January at Vladivostok, but it occurs primarily in December and January at the Sandong Peninsula.

  • The contribution of exterior devices such as bogie fairings and pantographs to running resistance was estimated on the basis of coasting tests at up to 350 km/h with the help of the Korean Next Generation High speed train (HEMU-430X). In order to assess the reduction of air resistance by nose car's bogie fairing, coasting tests were conducted with a removable bogie fairing at various speed ranges. And, the contribution of the pantograph to air resistance was also estimated with coasting tests that include the pantograph's rising and descent modes. The linear regression method was used to examine decelerations from time-velocity data and the equation of resistance to motion is proposed from the deceleration data. From the aerodynamic term of the equation of resistance to motion, the contribution to air resistance by nose car's bogie fairing and pantograph was estimated. The results show that the air resistance was reduced by about 3.8% by the nose car's bogie fairing. And, the 3.9% increase of air resistance by the pantograph (open knee mode) has been found.

  • Recognition for the importance and roles of public transportation is increasing because of traffic problems in many cities. In spite of this paradigm change, previous researches related with public transportation trip assignment have limits in some aspects. Especially, in case of multimodal public transportation networks, many characters should be considered such as transfers. operational time schedules, waiting time and travel cost. After metropolitan integrated transfer discount system was carried out, transfer trips are increasing among traffic modes and this takes the variation of users' route choices. Moreover, the advent of high-technology public transportation card called smart card, public transportation users' travel information can be recorded automatically and this gives many researchers new analytical methodology for multimodal public transportation networks. In this paper, it is suggested that the methodology for establishment of brand new multimodal public transportation networks based on computer programming methods using transportation card data. First, we propose the building method of integrated transportation networks based on bus and urban railroad stations in order to make full use of travel information from transportation card data. Second, it is offered how to connect the broken transfer links by computer-based programming techniques. This is very helpful to solve the transfer problems that existing transportation networks have. Lastly, we give the methodology for users' paths finding and network establishment among multi-modes in multimodal public transportation networks. By using proposed methodology in this research, it becomes easy to build multimodal public transportation networks with existing bus and urban railroad station coordinates. Also, without extra works including transfer links connection, it is possible to make large-scaled multimodal public transportation networks. In the end, this study can contribute to solve users' paths finding problem among multi-modes which is regarded as an unsolved issue in existing transportation networks.
