  • $Y_2$$_{-x}$G $d_{x}$ $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$(x=0.0, 0.3, 0.6, 1.0, 1.4) luminescent thin films have been grown on Si (100) substrates using pulsed laser deposition. The films grown under different deposition conditions have been characterized using microstructural and luminescent measurements. The crystallinity, the surface morphology and photoluminescence (PL) of the films are highly dependent on the amount of Gd. The photoluminescence (PL) brightness data obtained from $Y_2$$_{-x}$G $d_{x}$ $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$ films grown under optimized conditions have indicated that Si (100) is one of promised substrates for the growth of high quality $Y_2$$_{-x}$G $d_{x}$ $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$ thin film red phosphor. In particular, the incorporation of Gd into $Y_2$ $O_3$ lattice could induce a remarkable increase of PL. The highest emission intensity was observed with $Y_{1.35}$G $d_{0.60}$ $O_3$: $E^{3+}$, whose brightness was increased by a factor of 1.95 in comparison with that of $Y_2$ $O_3$:E $u^{3+}$ films.3+/ films.films.lms.

  • The influence of fluorescence, scattering, and absorbance in turbid material by light scattering was interpreted by the scattered fluorescence intensity and wavelength. The effect of optical property in scattering media was investigated. It is very important to study the charge coupled device(CCD) in spectrometry because we can use the molecular energy level, molecular structure, absorption or emission, intermolecular reaction, weakly bound molecular energy, photochemistry, fluorescence and photodynamic therapy. CCD is very essential to study the molecular structure and medical engineering combined laser spectroscopy in the modem physical and chemistry. Accordingly, this study has designed and manufactured the electromagnetic spectrometry with CCD, and has analyzed the hematoporphyrin derivative.

  • We have investigated about the grating formation of the $a-Se_{75}-Ge_{25}$ chalcogenide thin films. In this study, holographic gratings have been formed by using He-Ne laser(632.8nm) with different polarization states(linear, circular polarization). The diffraction efficiency was obtained by +1st order intensity of the diffracted beam. We have obtained maximum efficiency for Ag-doped thin film. It is observed the difference of the diffraction efficiency with polarization states. S:S-polarized state is shown high efficiency than the other polarization.

  • The exciplex fluorescence technique with the TMPD (tetamethyl-Ρ-phenylene-diamine) / naphthalene dopant system was applied in a combustion-type constant-volume spray chamber. A detailed set of calibration experiments has been performed in order to quantify the TMPD fluorescence signal. It has been demonstrated that the TMPD fluorescence intensity was directly proportional to concentration, was independent of the chamber pressure, and was not sensitive to quenching by either water vapor or carbon dioxide. Using a dual heated-jet experiment, the temperature dependence of TMPD fluorescence up to 1000 K was measured. The temperature field in the spray images was determined using a simple mixing model, and an iterative solution method was used to determine the concentration and temperature field including the additional effects of the laser sheet extinction. The integrated fuel vapor concentration compared favorably with the measured amount of injected fuel when all of the liquid fuel had evaporated.

  • Objectives: The purpose was to take a closer look at the fundamental principles of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and to investigate its clinical applications for Korean medical fields. Results: IPL is a type of light treatment that is employed by radiating the short-pulse wave, which is transformed from high-intensity light. It may be used to stimulate skin along meridian channels in clinical fields of Korean medicine like acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping therapy, Guasha therapy, and other related traditional techniques. So, it may be feasible to treat not only lentigines, freckles, facial dermatitis, and acne, but also other applications. In addition, it could be recommended for use with herb remedies or herb facial mask packs. Conclusions: IPL may be a plausible method in phototherapy of Korean medicine.

  • Potassium (K) distribution in rice (Oryza sativa L.) root was studied by confocal laser microscopy, using potassium sensitive fluorescent dye potassium-binding benzofuran isophthalate (PBFI). Significantly high intensity of K-specific fluorescence was detected at the root cap region followed by meristematic and basal regions. A negligible or fainted fluorescence was observed at the root hairs area. These results suggest that K is heavily distributed in the apical area of rice root, which may be required in higher concentration for division and extension of cells, as it is the rapidly growing region of the root, moreover, may also be involved in water uptake by creating osmotic gradient across membranes.

  • Readout signal of high density DVD-RAM disk output was simulated to analyze the effect of crosserase and crosstalk to the readout signal which is one of the main difficulties to realize high density DVD-RAM system having single side recording density of 4.7 G13 and 15 G13 media. Laser beam intensity impinged on the disk was approximated as Gaussian and recorded marks were assumed elliptical and the readout signal was calculated as a two dimensional convolution of laser beam pattern and recored mark pattern. From the readout signal obtained by varying crosserase ratio, carrier levels with period of 3T to 11 T were calculated and compared. Jitter due to crosserase and crosstalk was calculated and compared using 1,000 random marks having 3T to 11T period. The results showed that the jitter due to crosserase turned out to be smaller than the jitter due to crosstalk.

  • Refining in papermaking plays an important role in changing fiber properties as well as paper properties. The major effects of refining on pulp fibers are internal and external fibrillation, fiber shortening, and fines formation. Many workers showed that internal fibrillation of the primary refining effects was most influential in improving paper properties. In particular, refining produces separation of fiber walls into several lamellae, thus causing fiber wall swelling with water penetration. This leads to the increase of fiber flexibility and of fiber-to-fiber contact during drying. If the fibers are very flexible, they will be drawn into close contact with each other by the force of surface tension as the water is removed during the drainage process and drying stages. In order to study the effect of fiber wall delamination on paper properties, cross-sectional image of fibers in a natural condition had to be generated without distortion. Finally, it was well recognized that confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) could be one of the most efficient tool for creating and quantifying fiber wall delamination in combination with image analysis technique. In this study, the CLSM could be used not only to observe morphological features of transverse views of swollen fibers refined under low and high intensity, but also to investigate the sequence of fiber wall delamination and fiber wall breakage. From the CLSM images, increasing the specific energy or refining decreased the degree of fiber collapse, fiber cross-sectional area, fiber wall thickness and lumen area. High intensity refining produced more external fibrillation.
