The use of high voltage gain converters is essential for the distributed power generation systems with renewable energy sources such as the fuel cells and solar cells due to their low voltage characteristics. In this paper, a high voltage gain topology combining cascode Inverting Buck-Boost converter and voltage multiplier structure is introduced. In proposed converter, the input voltage is connected in series at the output, the portion of input power is directly delivered to the load which results in continuous input current. In addition, the voltage multiplier stage stacked in proper manner is not only enhance high step-up voltage gain ratio but also significantly reduce the voltage stress across all semiconductor devices and capacitors. As a result, the high current-low voltage switches can be employed for higher efficiency and lower cost. In order to show the feasibility of the proposed topology, the operation principle is presented and the steady-state characteristic is analyzed in detail. A 380W-40/380V prototype converter was built to validate the effectiveness of proposed converter.
A wind generator (WG) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system is presented here. It comprises of a variable-speed wind generator, a high-efficiency boost-type dc/dc converter and a control unit. The advantages of the aimed system are that it does not call for the knowledge of the wind speed or the optimal power characteristics and that it operates at a variable speed, thus providing high efficiency. The WG operates at variable speed and thus suffers lower stress on the shafts and gears compared to constant-speed systems. It results in a better exploitation of the available wind energy, especially in the low wind-speed range of 2.5-4.5 m/s. It does not depend on the WG wind and rotor-speed ratings or the dc/dc converter power rating. Higher reliability, lower complexity and cost, and less mechanical stress of the WG. It can be applied to battery-charging applications.
This paper proposes a single-phase bidirectional AC/DC converter topology applied in V2G systems, which consists of an inverter and a bidirectional non-inverting buck-boost converter. This topology can operate in four modes: buck charging, boost charging, buck discharging and boost discharging with high input current quality and unity input power factor. The inverter switches at line frequency, which is different from conventional voltage source inverters. A bidirectional buck-boost converter is utilized to adapt to a wider charging voltage range. The modulation and control strategy is introduced in detail, and the switching patterns are optimized to reduce the current ripple. In addition, the semiconductor losses are analyzed. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed topology.
This paper presents a novel soft-switching PWM utility frequency AC to high frequency AC power conversion circuit incorporating boost H-bridge inverter topology, which is more suitable and acceptable for cost effective consumer induction heating applications. The operating principle and the operation modes are presented using the switch mode equivalent circuits and the operating voltage and current waveforms. The performances of this high-frequency inverter using the latest IGBTs are illustrated, which includes high frequency power regulation and actual efficiency characteristics based on zero voltage soft-switching(ZVS) operation ranges, and the power dissipation as compared with those of the conventional type high frequency inverter. In addition, a dual mode control scheme of this high frequency inverter based on asymmetrical pulse width modulation(PWM) and pulse density modulation(PDM) control scheme is discussed in this paper in order to extend the soft switching operation ranges and to improve the power conversion efficiency at the low power settings. The power converter practical effectiveness is substantially proved based on experimental results from practical design example.
A new SPWM inverter using three-phase boost converter by auxiliary partial resonant with high power factor and high efficiency is proposed. The proposed boost converter is constructed by using a resonant network in parallel with the switch of the conventional boost converter. The devices are switched at zero voltage or zero current eliminating the switching loss. A new Partial resonant boost converter achieves zero-voltage switching (ZVS) or zero-current switching (ZCS) for all switch devices without increasing their voltage and current stresses. This paper introduces elimination of low-order harmonics compared with conventional SPWM inverter and SPWM inverter using three-phase boost converter by auxiliary Partial resonant.
This paper proposes a new bidirectional DC-DC converter with high efficiency. The proposed converter is composed of a flyback and a tapped-inductor boost converter to satisfy extreme operating conditions with low cost. The outputs are connected in series to achieve a high-voltage step-up. In the reverse direction, the proposed converter has an extreme step-down voltage. In this study, the proposed converter was employed with a 100 W hardware prototype. To design the controller, a small-signal transfer function of the proposed converter is derived. For PV power conditioning systems, a maximum power point tracking method is applied with perturb and observe method. To verify the operation of the bidirectional power flow, the current controller is applied. All of the controllers are employed with a digital signal processor.
This paper proposes a novel high-efficiency high-step-up interleaved converter with a voltage multiplier, which is suitable for electric vehicle power management applications. The proposed interleaved converter is capable of achieving high step-up conversion by employing a voltage-multiplier circuit. The proposed converter lowers the input-current ripple, which can extend the input source's lifetime, and reduces the voltage stress on the main switches. Hence, large voltage spikes across the main switches are alleviated and the efficiency is improved. Finally, a prototype circuit with an input voltage of 24 V, an output voltage of 380 V, and an output rated power of 1 kW is implemented and tested to demonstrate the functionality of the proposed converter. Moreover, satisfying experimental results are obtained and discussed in this paper. The measured full-load efficiency is 95.2%, and the highest measured efficiency of the proposed converter is 96.3%.
A dual-input boost-buck converter with coupled inductors (DIBBC-CI) is proposed as a thermoelectric generator (TEG) power conditioner with a wide input voltage range. The DIBBC-CI is built by cascading two boost cells and a buck cell with shared inverse coupled filter inductors. Low current ripple on both sides of the TEG and the battery are achieved. Reduced size and power losses of the filter inductors are benefited from the DC magnetic flux cancellation in the inductor core, leading to high efficiency and high power density. The operational principle, impact of coupled inductors, and design considerations for the proposed converter are analyzed in detail. Distributed maximum power point tracking, battery charging, and output control are implemented using a competitive logic to ensure seamless switching among operational modes. Both the simulation and experimental results verify the feasibility of the proposed topology and control.
