A compression lap splice can be calculated longer than a tension lap splice in high strength concrete according to current design codes. Including effects of transverse reinforcement, a compression splice becomes much longer than a tension splice. Effects of transverse reinforcement and bar size on strength and behavior of compression lap splice, which always exist in actual structures, have been investigated through experimental study of column tests with concrete strength of 40 and 60 MPa. The results of the tests with bar diameters of 22 and 29 mm show that there is no size effect of bar diameter on compression lap splice. Bond strength of small bar diameter may increase. However, large diameters of re-bars are used in compression member and the size effect of re-bars does not have to be considered in compression lap splice. Confined specimens have twice of calculated strengths by current design codes. New design equations for the compression lap splice including the effects of transverse reinforcement are required for practical purpose of ultra-high strength concrete. End bearing is enhanced by transverse reinforcement placed at ends of splice not by transverse reinforcement within splice length. As more transverse reinforcement are placed, the stresses developed by bond linearly increase. The transverse reinforcements at ends of splice a little improve the strength by bond. Because the stresses developed by bond in compression splice with transverse reinforcement are nearly identical to or less than those in tension splice with same transverse reinforcement, strength increment of compression splice is attributed to end bearing only.
The present paper investigates the curvature ductility of confined reinforced concrete (RC) beams with normal (NSC) and high strength concrete (HSC). For the purpose of predicting the curvature ductility factor, an analytical model was developed based on the equilibrium of internal forces of confined concrete and reinforcement. In this context, the curvatures were calculated at first yielding of tension reinforcement and at ultimate when the confined concrete strain reaches the ultimate value. To best simulate the situation of confined RC beams in flexure, a modified version of an ancient confined concrete model was adopted for this study. In order to show the accuracy of the proposed model, an experimental database was collected from the literature. The statistical comparison between experimental and predicted results showed that the proposed model has a good performance. Then, the data generated from the validated theoretical model were used to train the artificial neural network (ANN) prediction model. The R2 values for theoretical and experimental results are equal to 0.98 and 0.95, respectively which proves the high performance of the ANN model. Finally, a parametric study was implemented to analyze the effect of different parameters on the curvature ductility factor using theoretical and ANN models. The results are similar to those extracted from experiments, where the concrete strength, the compression reinforcement ratio, the yield strength, and the volumetric ratio of transverse reinforcement have a positive effect. In contrast, the ratio and the yield strength of tension reinforcement have a negative effect.

Whilst it is common to construct high-rise buildings and long-span structures in the construction and building industry, there might be a number of problems such as excessive re-bars arrangement, deterioration of concrete quality, unnecessary quantity take-off and so forth. As these types of buildings and structures are getting more popular, it is widespread to apply high-strength materials such as high-strength concrete and re-bars to sustain durability and stability. This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of the high-strength reinforcing bars on the underground parking in a rigid-frame structure. In this study, the reinforcing bars with different yield strength were applied to corroborate the usefulness and practicability of the high-strength re-bars on the underground parking in a rigid-frame structure. The test results show that the quantity of reinforcement bars is lowered, as the yield strength of the re-bars are grown in general. However, the quantity of reinforcement bars on the development and splice has a tendency to increase slightly. Despite of the increase of the development and splice, the total quantity of reinforcing bars was reduced since the increasing ration of the pure quantity is higher than the development and splice. Base on the test results, it would be possible to achieve the reduction of reinforcing bars arrangement and lowering the amount of work to be done during a construction phase. Moreover, the reduced amount of bar arrangement will make it possible to improve workability and constructability of reinforced concrete structures. Ultimately, we will be able to attain improved quality and efficiency of construction using reinforced concrete.

This paper is an experimental study on the flexural strength and ductility capacity of reinforced high performance concrete beams with the concrete which has compressive strength of 600~700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, slump value of 20~25cm and slump-flow value of 60~70cm. Total 8 beams with different tensile reinforcement ratio and pattern of loading were tested. Form the results of reinforced high performance concrete beams, the equivalent stress block parameters proposed by MacGregor et al. or New Zealand code are recommended to use. Also, an extreme fiber concrete compressive strain of reinforced high performance concrete beams are distributed 0.0033~0.0048. In reinforced high performance concrete beams, reinforcement ratio in order to insure curvature ductility index 2 and 4 propose by ACI code should be less than those of reinforced normal strength concrete beams.
An experimental program was carried out to investigate the influence of fibre reinforcement on the mechanical behaviour of high strength reinforced concrete beams. Eighteen beams, loaded in four-point bending tests, were examined by applying monotonically increasing controlled displacements and recording the response in terms of load-deflection curves up to failure. The major test variables were the volume fraction of steel fibres and the transverse steel amount for two different values of shear span. The contribution of the stirrups to the shear strength was derived from the deformations of their vertical legs, measured by means of strain gauges. The structural response of the tested beams was analyzed to evaluate strength, stiffness, energy absorption capacity and failure mode. The experimental results and observed behaviour are in good agreement with those obtained by other authors, confirming that an adequate amount of steel fibres in the concrete can be an alternative solution for minimizing the density of transverse reinforcement. However, the paper shows that the use of different theoretical or semi-empirical models, available in literature, leads to different predictions of the ultimate load in the case of dominant shear failure mode.
A detailed experimental program was conducted to investigate the flexural behavior of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) beams reinforced with high strength steel (HSS) rebars with a specified yield strength of 600 MPa via direct tensile test and monotonic four-point bending test. First, two sets of direct tensile test specimens, with the same reinforcement ratio but different yield strength of reinforcement, were fabricated and tested. Subsequently, six simply supported beams, including two plain UHPC beams and four reinforced UHPC beams, were prepared and tested under four-point bending load. The results showed that the balanced-reinforced UHPC beams reinforced with HSS rebars could improve the ultimate load-bearing capacity, deformation capacity, ductility properties, etc. more effectively owing to interaction between high strength of HSS rebar and strain-hardening characteristic of UHPC. In addition, the UHPC with steel rebars kept strain compatibility prior to the yielding of the steel rebar, further satisfied the plane-section assumption. Most importantly, the crack pattern of the UHPC beam reinforced with HSS rebars was prone to transform from single main crack failure corresponding to the normal-strength steel, to multiple main cracks failure under the condition of balanced-reinforced failure, which validated by the conclusion of direct tensile tests cooperated with acoustic emission (AE) source locating technique as well.

As existing materials for ground reinforcement, chemical grout material using cementitous materials and waterglass was used. But many problems in terms of ground reinforcement effects were implicated. In this study, for development and applicability verification of new materials, viscosity, fluidity, permeability, Self-Leveling, keeping of drilled hole, antiwashout underwater, resistance of water (groundwater dilution and minimize material eluting) and the early strength and long-term strength characteristics of developed materials was confirmed, and material standards, and establishing construction standards for the various model tests were conducted. As a result, high viscosity, flowability, permeability and keeping of drilled hole characteristics are excellent, in addition to the early strength properties, dilution does nat occur to groundwater, including groundwater is available for dealing with environmental issues. Application of basic and reinforcement method by Filler function in addition to structure can also or development of a new concept can be expected. In addition, middle and large-diameter drilled shaft, micropile, ground anchors, soil-nailing, steel pipes multi-grouting reinforcement for cement injection process could be used enough to even be considered.
This experimental investigation was conducted to examine the behavior and response of high-strength material (HSM) reinforced concrete (RC) columns under combined high-axial and cyclic-increasing lateral loads. All the columns use high-strength concrete ($f_c{^{\prime}}$=100MPa) and high-yield strength steel ($f_y$=685MPa and $f_y$=785MPa) for both longitudinal and transverse reinforcements. A total of four full-scale HSM columns with amount of transverse reinforcement equal to 100% more than that required by earthquake resistant design provisions of ACI-318 were tested. The key differences among those four columns are the spacing and configuration of transverse reinforcements. Two different constant axial loads, i.e. 60% and 30% of column axial load capacity, were combined with cyclically-increasing lateral loads to impose reversed curvatures in the columns. Test results show that columns under 30% of axial load capacity behaved much more ductile and had higher lateral deformational capacity compared to columns under the 60% of axial load capacity. The columns using closer transverse reinforcement spacing have slightly higher ductility than columns with larger spacing.

The objective of this paper is to design stamping die of inner reinforcement panel with DL 950 advanced high strength steel as stamping materials through numerical analyses and experiments. The stamping process was designed as bending dominant process consisting of 1 step of notching and 4 steps of bending processes. In order to obtain a proper design of the stamping die, various three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element analyses were performed using a commercial code AUTOFORM V4.2. Design parameter of stamping die was chosen as the corner radius of the stamping die for each step. From the results of the FE analysis, feasible corner radii of the stamping die, which can minimize the deviation of corner angle of the stamped part from design data, and forming load for each part were estimated. Stamping experiments were carried out using the manufactured stamping die according to the proposed die design. The results of experiments were shown that the stamping die can successfully manufacture the inner reinforcement panel with DL 950 advanced high strength steel as base stamping material.

With increasing use of high-strength concrete tied columns in structural engineering, it becomes necessary to examine the applicability of related sections of the current design codes. This experimental study was conducted to investigate the behavior of eccentrically loaded high-strength concrete columns. Column specimens with concrete strength 234, 437, 703kgf/㎠ were tested under monotonically increasing eccentric compression. The test parameters included the longitudinal reinforcement ratio, eccentric distance and concrete compressive strength. The analytical results obtained from the stress-strain relationship and the ACI's equivalent rectangular stress block are compared with experimental test results.
