REDUCTION CHARACTERISTICS OF NOx STORAGE CATALYST FOR LEAN-BURN NATURAL GAS VEHICLES

  • Various types of NOx storage catalysts for NGV's were designed, manufactured, and tested in this work on a model gas test bench. As in most of other studies on NOx storage catalyst, alkaline earth metal barium(Ba) was used as the NOx adsorbing substance. The barium-based experimental catalysts were designed to contain different amounts of Ba and precious metals at various ratios. Reaction tests were performed to investigate the NOx storage capacity and the NOx conversion efficiency of the experimental catalysts. From the results, it was found that when Ba loading of a catalyst was increased, the quantity of NOx stored in the catalyst increased in the high temperature range over 350. With more Ba deposition, the NOx conversion efficiency as well as its peak value increased in the high temperature range, but decreased in the low temperature range. The best of de-NOx catalyst tested in this study was catalyst B, which was loaded with 42.8 g/L of Ba in addition to Pt, Pd and Rh in the ratio of 7:7:1. In the low temperature range under $450^{\circ}C$, the NOx conversion efficiencies of the catalysts were lower when $CH_4$, instead of either $C_3H_6$ or $C_3H_8$, was used as the reductant.

A STUDY ON OXIDATION TREATMENT OF URANIUM METAL CHIP UNDER CONTROLLING ATMOSPHERE FOR SAFE STORAGE

  • The U metal chips generated in developing nuclear fuel and a gamma radioisotope shield have been stored under immersion of water in KAERI. When the water of the storing vessels vaporizes or drains due to unexpected leaking, the U metal chips are able to open to air. A new oxidation treatment process was raised for a long time safe storage with concepts of drying under vacuum, evaporating the containing water and organic material with elevating temperature, and oxidizing the uranium metal chips at an appropriate high temperature under conditions of controlling the feeding rate of oxygen gas. In order to optimize the oxidation process the uranium metal chips were completely dried at higher temperature than $300^{\circ}C$ and tested for oxidation at various temperatures, which are $300^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, and $500^{\circ}C$. When the oxidation temperature was $400^{\circ}C$, the oxidized sample for 7 hours showed a temperature rise of $60^{\circ}C$ in the self-ignition test. But the oxidized sample for 14 hours revealed a slight temperature rise of $7^{\circ}C$ representing a stable behavior in the self-ignition test. When the temperature was $500^{\circ}C$, the shorter oxidation for 7 hours appeared to be enough because the self-ignition test represented no temperature rise. By using several chemical analyses such as carbon content determination, X-ray deflection (XRD), Infrared spectra (IR) and Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) on the oxidation treated samples, the results of self-ignition test of new oxidation treatment process for U metal chip were interpreted and supported.

초고온 살균유의 저장 중 겔 형성 거동 (Gelation Behavior of Ultra High Temperature Pasteurized Milk during Storage)

  • In order to examine physicochemical gelation behavior of ultra high temperature(UHT) pasteurized milk during storage at 4$^{\circ}C$ and 25$^{\circ}C$, pH, electrophoresis, alcohol test, sialic acid contents and free amino groups contents were biweekly determined. The pH of UHT pasteurized milk decreased with increasing storage time. Gelation of the UHT milk occured faster at 25$^{\circ}C$ than at 4$^{\circ}C$ with larger decreasing rate of pH. The alcohol test showed positive results at lower pH than 6.5, which could indicate the casein instability and beginning of gelation. The electrophoretic patterns showed a decrease in the concentrations of all caseins. Degradation of k-casein was faster in all cases, while $\alpha$-casein and $\beta$-casein were also extensively degraded later. The sialic acid contents of the samples increased gradually during storage, and the increasing rate was higher before gel formation. The free amino groups of the samples increased gradually during storage. The increasing rate of free amino groups was faster at 25$^{\circ}C$ than at 4$^{\circ}C$. The samples stored at 25$^{\circ}C$ gelled earlier than those stored at 25$^{\circ}C$, with corresponding increase of free amino groups. The residual proteolytic enzymes, which survived during the UHT heat treatments and were reactivated during storage, could be responsible for UHT pasteurized milk gelation during storage. It is assumed that proteolytic degradation of caseins followed by aggregation would be attributable to complicated reaction mechanism.

고온 공기 가열기 개발 현황 조사 및 고찰 (The Review and Investigation of High Temperature Heater Development)

  • 극초음속 공기 흡입 추진기관의 지상 시험 시 추진기관의 고속 비행 조건을 모의하기 위해 고온 공기를 공급할 수 있는 고온 공기 가열기가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 고온 가열기들을 조사하여 유형별로 정리하고, 장단점을 비교하였다. 가열기는 크게 유동장 내 연소 가열기, 아크 가열기, 축열식 가열기, 열교환식 가열기 4종류로 분류할 수 있었으며, 각각의 장단점이 다양하므로 목적에 맞게 가열기를 선정하여야 한다.

  • 과산화수소의 저장성 평가 방법을 소개하고, 고농도 과산화수소의 저장성을 평가하였다. 농도 측정 방법을 통하여 저장성을 평가하였으며, 과산화수소의 MIL-PRF-16005F 기준 만족 여부와 저장 온도 및 저장 용기의 마개 재질을 실험 변수로 선정하여 저장성을 평가하였다. 8~24개월 동안 측정을 수행한 결과, 안정제가 포함된 과산화수소가 추진제급 과산화수소에 비해 저장성이 매우 떨어졌으며, 과산화수소 증기와 반응을 보이지 않은 파라핀 필름으로 용기를 밀폐하였을 때, 플라스틱 마개를 사용한 경우에 비해 좋은 저장성을 나타내었다. 또한 과산화수소의 저장성에는 온도가 매우 큰 영향을 미쳐 상온에 비해 $10^{\circ}C$ 이하에서 보관하였을 때 저장성이 크게 향상되었다.

Effect of cold storage method for 'Sulhyang' strawberry mother plants on mother plant growth and the number of runners and daughters

  • This test was conducted to determine the appropriate conditions of temperature, storage period, and soil moisture content when using cold storage of potted mother plants of as a means of sufficient dormant breaking and safe overwintering of the strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch. cv. Sulhyang) mother plants. In the treatment by temperature for the dormant breaking of strawberry mother plants, the survival rate of natural overwintering was 91%, whereas the survival rate was 100% at 0, - 2, and - 5℃. As the storage temperature was decreased, the plant height of the mother plants became shorter which tended to decrease after planting. Survival of the mother plants was possible at - 5℃, but after planting, the growth and number of daughter plants decreased significantly. The number of daughter plants was highest at 22.8 per plant at - 2℃ storage. The strawberry mother plants could be stored for up to 8 months in cold storage. However, when the mother plants were stored for a long period, the number of daughter plants was small. When they were stored for 4 months, the growth of the mother plants was vigorous, and the number of runners and daughter plants was high. When the water content of the soil was less than 10 percent (%, w/w) in the cold storage of the pot, the survival rate was 85 percent, which was high due to the dryness. The survival rate was 100 percent at 30 and above, and the growth of the mother plants after planting and the number of daughter plants were high at 30 to 50.

고속전단 시험을 이용한 Sn-37Pb BGA solder joints의 기계적 신뢰성 특성 평가 (Mechanical reliability of Sn-37Pb BGA solder joints with high-speed shear test)

  • 본 연구에서는 BGA(Ball Grid Array) 솔더 접합부에 high impact가 가해졌을 경우 접합부의 기계적 특성에 대해서 연구하였다. 시편은 ENIG(Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold) 표면 처리된 FR-4 기판 위에 직경이 500 ${\mu}m$인 Sn-37Pb 솔더볼을 BGA 방식으로 배열하고 리플로우(Reflow)를 통하여 제작하였다. HTS(High Temperature Storage) 테스트를 위해, 시편을 일정한 온도의 $120^{\circ}C$에서 250시간 동안 시효처리(Aging)를 실시하였다. 시효처리 후, 각각의 시편은 고속 전단 시험기(Dage-4000HS)를 이용하여 속도 변수는 0.01, 0.1, 1, 3 m/s로 설정하여 고속전단 시험을 실시하였다. 전단시험 후, 솔더 접합 계면과 파면을 주사전자현미경(Scanning Electron Microscope, SEM)을 통하여 관찰하였다. 솔더 접합 계면에는 $Ni_3Sn_4$의 금속간 화합물이 성장하였으며, 시효처리 후, 솔더 접합 계면에 생성된 금속간 화합물의 두께가 증가하는 것을 관찰 할 수 있었다. 전단 시험 결과, 전단 속도가 빨라짐에 따라 전단 강도값은 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 솔더 접합부의 파단은 전단 속도와 시효처리 시간에 따라 다양한 파괴 모드로 진행됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 파괴 모드는 연성파괴 형상을 보이다가 전단속도가 증가함에 따라 취성 파괴 형상으로 변하는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Genetic Analysis on Germination Rate and Fat Acidity of Japonica Rice Seeds after High Temperature Storage

  • This study was carried out to get the genetic information on the germination rate and fat acidity after 12 weeks' storage at $35^{\circ}C$. Germination rate decreased with longer storage period, while fat acidity increased. Germination rate was higher in the order of Koshihikari, Hanmaeum and Unkwangbyeo after 12 weeks' storage at $35^{\circ}C$. Fat acidity of Koshihikari and Hanmaeum was gradually increased, but that of Unkwangbyeo was dramatically increased after 4 weeks' storage at $35^{\circ}C$. The genetic mode on germination rate and fat acidity using the joint scaling test was shown to be additive-dominance gene effects. Additive([d]) effect was higher than dominance effect([h]) in all crosses. The average degree of dominance, [h]/[d], was less than 1, indicating that germination rate and fat acidity was partially dominant. Germination rate and fat acidity based on frequency distribution of 2 crosses were quantitative characters expressed by polygenes.

Failure Pressure Prediction of Composite Cylinders for Hydrogen Storage Using Thermo-mechanical Analysis and Neural Network

  • Safe installation and operation of high-pressure composite cylinders for hydrogen storage are of primary concern. It is unavoidable for the cylinders to experience temperature variation and significant thermal input during service. The maximum failure pressure that the cylinder can sustain is affected due to the dependence of composite material properties on temperature and complexity of cylinder design. Most of the analysis reported for high-pressure composite cylinders is based on simplifying assumptions and does not account for complexities like thermo-mechanical behavior and temperature dependent material properties. In the present work, a comprehensive finite element simulation tool for the design of hydrogen storage cylinder system is developed. The structural response of the cylinder is analyzed using laminated shell theory accounting for transverse shear deformation and geometric nonlinearity. A composite failure model is used to evaluate the failure pressure under various thermo-mechanical loadings. A back-propagation neural network (NNk) model is developed to predict the maximum failure pressure using the analysis results. The failure pressures predicted from NNk model are compared with those from test cases. The developed NNk model is capable of predicting the failure pressure for any given loading condition.

Effects of ${\beta}$-Conglycinin and Glycinin on Thermal Gelation and Gel Properties of Soy Protein

  • Dynamic shear moduli of isolated soy protein solutions upon heating were measured to monitor gelation. Onsets of gelation coincide with onset temperatures of denaturation in glycinin and ${\beta}$-conglycinin solutions, whereas in isolated soy proteins, onset of gelation was above denaturation temperature of ${\beta}$-conglycinin with storage modulus increasing in two steps. The first increase in storage modulus of isolated soy proteins occurred at about $78.5^{\circ}C$, while the second increase started at about $93^{\circ}C$. Gel properties of soy protein gels having different proportions of glycinin and ${\beta}$-conglycinin were measured by compression-decompression test. ${\beta}$-conglycinin was responsible for gel elasticity. Glycinin significantly increased hardness, toughness, and fracturability of gels at high heating temperature near $100^{\circ}C$. Results reveal texture of soy protein gels can be controlled by regulating ratio of glycinin to ${\beta}$-conglycinin and heating temperature.
