  • In order to decide the strength requirement of the window glass for the high-speed train, the pressure change during the passage of the EMU type high-speed train has been numerically simulated. Based on the calculation results, the pressure difference between the inner and outer pressure of the cabin has been calculated to yield the amount of load acting on the window glass of the cabin. To simulate the pressure field generated by the high-speed train passing through the tunnel, computational fluid dynamics based on the axi-symmetric Navier-Stokes equation has been employed. The pressure change inside a train has been calculated using first order difference approximation based on a linear equation between the pressure change ratio inside a train and the pressure difference of inside and outside of the train.

  • In Korea, high-speed train(HEMU-400X) system with distributed power is being developed, and the highest test speed of this train is 400km/h. This developed the first high-speed train as a distributed power train in Korea, as well as for the development of train system and evaluation system included evaluation technology is needed. Accordingly, a comprehensive and efficient OMS(Overall Measurement System) was build up for verifying the performance of HEMU-400X. By the case study of the G7 and TTX, OMS of HEMU-400X was improved the test performance and maintainability. In particular, the existing Window-based systems has a limit to the control, due to this reason OMS applying enhanced RT(Real-time) system. In this study, compare the advantages and disadvantages of RT systems with Window-based systems, as well as the configuration of the RT systems.

  • In this study, sound transmission loss (STL) is investigated on the multi-layered windows used in the KTX-sancheon and next generation HEMU-400x high speed train. Using TLOSS, which is developed as a special purpose STL analysis program, STLs of the multi-layered glass windows are analytically investigated and compared with the mass law result. Window specimens for the two train models are manufactured and intensity transmission losses are measured based on ASTM E2249-02. The problems in aspect of sound insulation are diagnosed on the two window models. The aim of this study is to provide useful data for the improvement of the interior noise in the high speed train.

  • All of the Korean high speed train windows have been imported from abroad up to now. In this paper, the air pressure endurance test device for high speed train windows was studied and developed. This test device can create air pressure variation similar to train running real condition and carry out pressure endurance test according to international standard. Henceforward, this test device will be useful for domestic production of high speed train windows.

  • The sidewall of the HEMU-400x consists of two parts. One is the multi-layered structure including aluminium extruded panel and the other is the double glazed window. When the train runs in a tunnel, the equivalent sound insulation performance of the side wall significantly influences the internal noise levels. In aspect of the sound insulation strategy, it is important to make two parts have similar performance. In this study, the intensity sound transmission loss (ITL) is measured on the specimens of the two parts. Mass law deviation (MLD) is considered in order to compare the sound insulation performance of the two parts in respect of the weight. Contribution of each part to the sound insulation is analyzed and the sound insulation strategy is investigated to reduce the interior noise.

  • In a tunnel, interior noise of a high speed train increases by 5dB~7dB. The reason is that the sound intensity of the acoustic field in the tunnel significantly increases by the reflected waves occurred in the closed space. Especially, the incident acoustic power largely increases on the outside of the compartment side panel and large transmission of noise is available through the side panel and the glass window. In this paper, the sound insulation strategy in the tunnel is proposed for the next generation high speed train under development. Specimens of the aluminum extruded panels, layered panels and double glazed window are manufactured and intensity transmission loss is measured according to ASTM E2249-02. Based on the measured data, problems in the sound insulation performance are diagnosed and the sound insulation strategy is reviewed on each panel and layered structures.

  • The interior sound pressure level of the Korean high-speed train(KHST) is predicted by geometrical acoustic method. For the Purpose of assuring the prediction of Interior noise of KHST by the geometrical acoustic scheme, calculated sound level values of the Korean train express(KTX) by Identical geometrical method are compared with measured values of KTX prototype vehicle by experiment. Contribution of individual sound source of KHST vehicle Into the interior response positions is calculated and sound sources are classified in influential order. Hence, it is reasonable approach to reduce sound power of most contributing noise source first. Sensitivity of the interior response position's sound pressure level (SPL) with respect to train wall sections' transmission loss are carried on and acoustically sensitive spot is identified, for example window area for passenger cabin case. Those contribution and sensitivity analysis results are suggested to design quieter train efficiently.

  • This study describes an experimental investigation about the impact damage characteristics of various types of high speed train window glass. Kinds of impact test standards for glass were studied and impact test considering scattering ballast were developed. Windows with external impact side made with annealed, heat strengthened and tempered glasses are likely to be broken by sharp tipped falling object. Broken shape of annealed glass is like line in part and that of heat strengthened glass is line on the whole. Tempered glass is destroyed to pieces. The change of tip type from sharp to blunt makes the higher destroyed level. Tempered glass has higher strength than annealed glass with blunt tip. When the protective films are attached to glasses, strength against destruction increases. In case of real ballast test, glasses without protective films were destroyed, but those with protective films are hard to be broken.
