Development of Intermodal Connectivity Index for High-Speed Rail (고속철도와 연계교통수단간 연계성 지표 개발)

  • Recently, the building of an intermodal transportation system has become the most important policy in the establishment of a national-wide sustainable transport system. In the case of rail and public transport, an intermodal connecting improvement policy is essential due to the lack of trip completeness. In particular, high-speed rail has brought dramatic changes to the transportation system in Korea and the idea of high-speed rail stations as major transportation nodes to be linked to various travel modes needs to be analyzed in terms of an intermodal network. Thus, this study proposes a new connectivity analysis method to objectively and quantitatively evaluate intermodal connecting performance for high-speed rail in terms of an intermodal network around high-speed rail stations. Seoul, Busan, Ulsan, and Sin-gyeongju stations were designated for a range of spatial analyses; detailed connecting performance indexes of travel modes connecting high-speed rail stations, and the influence sphere of these stations are analyzed, except for internal transfer facilities. Finally, this study proposes a connectivity analysis method that applies the structural equation model and develops a connectivity index.

  • With repid development of optical networking technology, Software-Defined Network (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV), high performance networking service, collaboration platform that enables collaborative research globally, drastically National Research Network (NRN) including Internet Service has changed. Therefore we compared and analyzed several world-class NRNs and took a view of future development strategy of the NRN. Also we suggest high speed security environment in super high bandwidth network with 40Gbps and 100Gbps optical transmission technology, network separation of NRN with Science DMZ to support high performance network transmission for science big data, building security environment for last-mile in campus network that supports programmability of IDS using BRO framework.

A Study on the Router Bottle Neck for Campus Network (캠퍼스 네트워크에서의 라우터의 병목 현상에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we discuss the CPU Utilization and bottle neck of the router on campus network. Generally, high CPU utilization does not only makes slow network speed but also frequently network disconnection. The above characteristic is based on the network with one router. In order to solve this problem, we reconstruct network configuration with two routers. Our result shows that CPU utilization of network topology with two router have good performance compared to that with one.

  • The development project of Korean High Speed Train (KHST) was started in 1996. As a national research project, the KHST project aims for a development of the next generation prototype train that has a maximum speed of 350 km/h. The development process of prototype KHST including 7 vehicles was completed last year and currently the prototype train is on its way of test running over the test track with gradually increased speed. The prototype KHST uses the real time network called TCN (Train Communication Network) for exchanging information between various onboard control equipments. After 10 years of development and modification period, TCN was confirmed as international standard (IEC61375-1) for the electrical railway equipment train bus. In the prototype KHST, all major control devices are connected by TCN and exchange their information. Such devices include SCU (Supervisory Control Unit), ATC (Automatic Train Control), TCU (Traction Control Unit), and so forth. For each device that sends and receives data using TCN, a device has to find out whether TCN is in normal or failure state before its data exchange. And also a device must have a proper method of data validation that was received in a normal TCN state. This is a one of the major important factors for devices using network. Some misleading information can lead the entire system to a catastrophic condition. This paper briefly explains how TCN was implemented in the prototype KHST train, and also shows what kind of the fault diagnosis method was adopted for a fail safe operation of TCN system

Detection of Network Attack Symptoms Based on the Traffic Measurement on Highspeed Internet Backbone Links (고속 인터넷 백본 링크상에서의 트래픽 측정에 의한 네트워크 공격 징후 탐지 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel traffic measurement based detection of network attack symptoms on high speed Internet backbone links. In order to do so, we characterize the traffic patterns from the normal and the network attacks appeared on Internet backbone links, and we derive two efficient measures for representing the network attack symptoms at aggregate traffic level. The two measures are the power spectrum and the ratio of packet counts to traffic volume of the aggregate traffic. And, we propose a new methodology to detect networks attack symptoms by measuring those traffic measures. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can detect the network attack symptoms very exactly and quickly. Unlike existing methods based on Individual packets or flows, since the proposed method is operated on the aggregate traffic level. the computational complexity can be significantly reduced and applicable to high speed Internet backbone links.

  • Network technology has been developed for very high-speed networking and multimedia data whose characteristics are the continuous and bursty transmission as well as a large amount of data. With this trend users wish to view the information about the application services as well as network devices and system hardware. However, it is rarely available for the users the information of performance or faults of the application services. Most of information is limited to the information related network devices or system hardware. Furthermore, users expect the best services without knowing the service environments in the network and there is no good way of delivering the service related problems and fault information of application services in a high speed network yet. In this paper we present a web-based application management system that we have developed for the past year. It includes a method to build an agent system that uses an existing network management standards, SNMP MIB and SNMP protocols. The user interface of the system is also developed to support visualization effects with web-based Java interface which offers a convenient way not only to access management information but also to control networked applications.

  • In this paper, we carry out a performance study related to the Advanced Peer-to-Peer Network(APPN). For this particular network, it has been proposed to use the leaky bucket as a way of controlling congestion within the network. On the top of leaky bucket type rate based congestion control scheme for high speed networks, a user will typically operate an error control scheme for retransmitting lost and erroneous packets. We propose a Perform ance model in order to study the Interaction between a user's error control scheme and the leaky bucket congestion control scheme for high speed networks. Simulation results show that parameters such as the window size and the token generation rate in the leaky bucket are key factors affecting the end-to-end delay.

  • The requirements for higher productivity call for high speed of the machine tool axes. Iron core type linear DC motor is growly accepted far a viable candidate of the high speed machine tool feed unit. LDM, however, has inherent disturbance force components: cogging and force ripple. These disturbance force directly affects tracking accuracy of the carrage and must be eliminated or reduced. Reducing motor ripple, this paper adapted the feed forward compensation method and neural network control. Experiments carried 7ut on the linear motor test setup show that this control methods is usable in order to reduce the motor ripple.

  • Recently, the smart sensors and USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) technologies are emerging. Smart sensors add the capability of storing local temporary data, processing instant operations, transmitting information outward, to the simple sensing devices. The USN is a wireless network of sensor/smart sensors that can collect data anywhere anytime and exchange the data within the network. In this research, case studies are performed on the smart sensors and USN applications. The cases were grouped in four categories, domestic private, domestic public, foreign private, and foreign public. Based on that survey, promising applications will be proposed and developed to be implemented to the next generation high-speed EMU.

  • Network control platform (NCP) and quality of service switch (QSS) are developed to realize centralized control and management technology, which is essential for guaranteeing traffic engineering and service quality in the next generation network. This paper presents high-speed connection management mechanism to enhance connection setup delay of the existing SNMP interface between NCP and QSS. We built up a connection management platform in the laboratory environment to validate the realization of the proposed mechanism.
