Improved Dual Closed-loops PWM Control of PM DC Servomotor - a Case Study of Undergraduate Education for Electrical Engineering

  • PID control method usually has problems of overshoot and oscillation in high order control system, therefore, it is important to improve the control method so as to reduce the overshoot and oscillation. Based on MATLAB simulation, a permanent magnet (PM) DC servomotor control system is studied in this paper. The motor is modeled according to the universal motor theory, and with the help of the fourth order Ronge-Kutta method, its speed control is simulated and compared between two different dual closed-loops PWM control methods. This case study helps undergraduate students to better understand theories related to electrical engineering, such as electrical machinery, power electronics and control theory, as well as digital solution of state equations.

대형 농기계의 효율적 이용을 고려한 포장구획에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Plot Geometry for Mechanization)

  • The plot geometry of the paddy land is directly related to the performance of machines, especially those having a large size and high speed. The study was to investigate the optimum plot geometry from the standpoint of mechanization. A simulator, Field-Plot-Structure-Evaluation-System(FPSES) was developed for evaluation of the field performance of machines according to the plot geometry. The efficiency and capacity of different sizes of machinery used for rice farming functions were analyzed for a various combination of plot geometry, which could be used as reference for the land reclamation planning and mechanization programming. It is shown that the plot size of about two hectares having a length of 200m and width of loom may be optimum, considering the efficiency and capacity of large sized machinery available currently and in near future.

  • During the 1980s, the use of high-speed printing and copying machines which will not tolerate much variation in paper weight has increased. As a result, there is a growing demand for improved basis weight control systems for paper machines. Basis weight, the weight of a square meter sheet of paper, is the most important measure of paper consistency. Until quite recently, basis weight could only be controlled manually; this required experienced operators. The reasons for the difficulty in automating control of basis weight is due to the complexity and variability of process characteristics, the "noisiness" of the process (process disturbances), and actuator inadequacies. This paper describes a method of automatic control that we have developed; it incorporates the experience of expert operators, and the results of simulation, in confidence factors.e factors.

Simplified Design and Optimization of Slotless Brushless DC Machine for Micro-Satellites Electro-Mechanical Batteries

  • Electro-Mechanical Batteries have important advantages compared with chemical batteries, especially in Low Earth Orbit satellites applications. High speed, slotless, external rotor, brushless DC machines are proposed and used in these systems as Motor/Generator. A simplified analytic design method is given for this type of machines and, the optimization of machine in order to have maximum efficiency and minimum volume and weight are given in this paper. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used as the optimization algorithm and the finite element-based simulations are used to confirm the design and optimization process and show less than 6% error in parametric design.

  • Recently washing machines are to be in lower vibration and lower sound because of better environment. Vibration problems in washing machines occur in both washing mode and spinning mode, but vibration in spinning mode becomes main problem because of its high rotating speed and continuity. Vibration while spinning is mainly due to rigid body motion of total washing system which includes suspending rods, washing bath, spinning bath, and gear sets. In this study, some researches were done in order to analyze the rigid body motion of washing system and flexible vibration of spinning bath. A basic mathematical model was established, and the effect of position of salt water and shape change of salt water case were considered. And the effect of lengths of suspending rods, attaching angles, vertical and horizontal position, stiffness of spring on the change of vibration were also considered. To identify the effect of salt water on vibration, some measurements were done. When salt water was positioned at upper part, the effect was most and this coincides with the tendency of simulation.

A Study on the Iron Losses in Flux-Switching Permanent Magnet Machines

  • Flux-switching permanent magnet machines (FSPMM) have doubly-salient and simple structures making it cost effective and suitable for mass production. In addition, it is possible to increase the rotor rotating speed and concentrate the flux of the permanent magnet on the air-gap. Due to these merits, the FSPMM can be applied to the various industry applications. To improve the performance, various design variables need to be studied in terms of design techniques. In this paper, we especially concentrate on the distribution of iron losses using a two-dimensional finite-element method (2D FEM). As a result, we can get an information for high efficiency FSPMM design.

  • The demand for linear electrical machines, for both controlled motion and electrical power generation, has increased steadily in recent years. For example, for applications in the high-speed packaging and manufacturing sectors, linear electromagnetic machines, which provide thrust force directly to a payload without the need to convert rotary to linear motion, offer significant advantages in terms of simplicity, efficiency, positioning accuracy, and dynamic performance in both acceleration capability and bandwidth. So, this paper describes analysis the dynamic characteristics of Tubular Type Linear BLDC Motor by simulation and experiments.

  • SRG (Switched Reluctance Generator) have many advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, high-speed capability and robustness compared with characteristics of other machines. However, the control methods that have been adopted for SRGs are complicated. This paper proposes a simple control method using PID controller that only controls turn-off angles while keeping turn-on angles of SRG constant. The linear characteristics between the generated current and the turn-off angle can be used to control the turn-off angle for load variations. Since the reference current for generation can be produced from an error between the reference and the real voltage, it can be controlled to keep the output voltage constant. The proposed control method enhances the robustness of this system and simplifies the hardware and software by using only the voltage and speed sensors. The proposed method is verified by experimental results.

  • In turbo-machines operated at high speeds through gear speed increasers a precise coupled analysis of lateral and torsional vibrations is required to achieve highly reliable designs with low vibration and low noise levels, where the vibration coupling is due to the gear pair mesh stiffness. In this paper, applying the generalized coupled lateral-torsional finite element model of a gear pair element, has been analyzed a coupled lateral-torsional vibration of the prototype 800 RT turbo-chiller rotor-bearing system with a bull-pinion gear speed increaser. Results have shown that the coupled torsional natural frequencies have decreased due to the coupling effect of lateral vibration and particularly, the 2nd torsional natural frequency and its mode shape have had big changes. However, changes of lateral vibration characteristics have been noticed only at high lateral whirl natural frequencies above 15,000 rpm.

  • In recent years, as the industry has been highly developed and precised, its driving and control system have been changed, what is more, revolutionized. The requirements of these change are more accuracy, more high efficiency, more miniaturized size and more servo functions. Step motor has been adopted for driving servo systems, because of easier controllability, open-loop control, high position accuracy at low speed. In this paper, we deal with developing step motor system, and describe the procedure that contains design, analysis. testing characteristics.
