The continuous compaction response of zirconia powders prepared by different processing treatments was investigated. Though the yield point could be or not below 1 MPa, the change of slope was always observed at high pressure range around 60 MPa. Powder compaction was mainly governed by second compaction stage and compaction rate was decreased with increasing forming pressure. Rotary vacuum dried powder favored a high compaction density, whereas freeze dried and calcined powders favored an increase in the pressing efficiency. In order to extract more reliable information about powder compaction, it was necessary to use not only compaction response diagram but also compaction rate diagram.
Liquid whole egg (LWE) was subjected to high hydrostatic pressure (HHP), a consecutive combination of nisin and HHP (nisin-HHP), or a consecutive combination of ultrasound and HHP (ultrasound-HHP), and functional properties of processed LWE were compared to those of raw LWE. Little changes in foaming and emulsifying properties were observed by the application of HHP alone and the combined process of nisin and HHP. In contrast, ultrasound-HHP combination resulted in significant changes in color, foaming, and emulsifying properties. The maintenance of functional properties after HHP treatment agreed with expectation, because the HHP processing condition had been selected where minimal rheological changes had occurred.
In fine-particle injection processing, hard fine particles, such as silicon carbide or aluminum oxide, are injected - using high-pressure air, and a small amount of material is removed by applying an impact to the workpiece by spraying at high speeds. In this study, a two-axis stage device capable of sequence control was developed to spray various shapes, such as circles and squares, on the surface during the micro-particle jetting process to understand the surface-shape micro-particle-processing characteristics. In the experimental device, two stepper motors were used for the linear movement of the two degree-of-freedom mechanism. The signal output from the microcontroller is - converted into a signal with a current sufficient to drive the stepper motor. The stepper motor rotates precisely in synchronization with the pulse-signal input from the outside, eliminating the need for a separate rotation-angle sensor. The major factors of the processing conditions are fine particles (silicon carbide, aluminum oxide), injection pressure, nozzle diameter, feed rate, and number of injection cycles. They were identified using the ANOVA technique on the design of the experimental method. Based on this, the surface roughness of the spraying surface, surface depth of the spraying surface, and radius of the corner of the spraying surface were measured, and depending on the characteristics, the required spraying conditions were studied.
Using a high pressure homonizer, we report on the electrochemical performance of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}(LTO)$ particles manufactured as anode active material for lithium ion battery. High-pressure synthesis processing is performed under conditions in which the mole fraction of Li/Ti is 0.9, the synthesis pressure is 2,000 bar and the numbers of passings-through are 5, 7 and 10. The observed X-ray diffraction patterns show that pure LTO is manufactured when the number of passings-through is 10. It is found from scanning electron microscopy analysis that the average size of synthesized particles decreases as the number of passings-through increases. $LiCoO_2-based$ active cathode materials are used to fabricate several coin half/full cells and their battery characteristics such as lifetime, rate capability and charge transfer resistance are then estimated, revealing quite good electrochemical performance of the LTO particles as an effective anode active material for lithium secondary batteries.
The initial film flow development of the high-pressure swirl spray was investigated at different injector operating conditions to analyze film flow development and to provide the input data for the modeling works. This result can be also useful to verify the previously simulated results. The initial flow conditions such as liquid film thickness, flow angle and flow divergence are obtained by visualizing the inside and near the nozzle flow with a microscopic imaging system. The visualized images are quantified using an image processing tool. From the information of liquid film thickness and flow angle, the initial axial and tangential velocity and the swirl number of the swirl spray are successfully determined at various operating conditions. The experimental results showed that the initial liquid film thickness, flow angle and flow divergence are remained constant when the injection pressure is increased. However, initial film conditions are severely changed when the fuel temperature is increased. The swirl number remained constant when the injection pressure is increased while it showed increased value at high fuel temperature condition.

The aluminum-magnesium (Al-Mg) aklloys have been proved to be an effective solvent for synthesis of cubic-phase boron nitride (cBN) from hexagonal-phase boron nitride (hBN) at the conditions of high pressures and high temperatures (HP/HT). Various kinds of hBN powders having different crystallinity have been tested for cBN synthesis with Al-Mg solvents. The conversion ratio from hBN to cBN and the shape of synthesized cBN crystals appeared to be affected strongly by chemical composition and added amount of Al-Mg solvents as well as crystallinity of BN powders. As the magnesium content increased in the Al-Mg solvents, the conversion ratio increased and the size of cBN crystals became larger. The crystal facets developed well in the specimens with solvents having high Mg content. It was observed that a hBNlongrightarrowcBN transformation occurred more easily in the specimens having well crystallized hBN powders. Amorphous BN having much $B_2O_3$ impurity exhibited a low threshold temperature for transformation to cBN, which was attributed to crystallization of amorphous BN to well crystallized hBN prior to transformation into cBN with help of $B_2O_3$.
In the present study, an EMC (Electromagnetic Casting) process, using a segmented Cu cold crucible under a high frequency alternating magnetic field of 20 kHz, was practiced for the fabrication of poly-crystalline Si ingot of 50 mm diameter. The effects of Joule heating and electromagnetic pressure in molten Si were systematically investigated with various processing parameters such as electric current and crucible configuration. A preliminary experimental work was initiated with the pure Al system for the establishment of a stabilized non-contact working condition, and further adapted to the semiconductor-off-grade Si system. A commercialized software such as Opera-3D was utilized in order to simulate electromagnetic pressure and Joule heating. In order to evaluate the meniscus shape of the molten melts, shape parameter was used throughout the research. A segmented graphite crucible, which was attached at the upper part of the cold crucible, was introduced to enhance significantly the heating efficiency of Si melt keeping non-contact condition during continuous melting and casting processes.

Many parameters influence the frictional behavior of steel sheet during stamping. The contact pressure between a die and a sheet during stamping is one of them. Thus, this parameter is investigated for high strength steel (HSS) sheets, which are widely used for auto body panels due to their potential for weight reduction. Since HSS extend the limits of contact pressure for mild steel, the effect of this parameter on friction cannot be ignored. To investigate the influence of contact pressure on the frictional behavior of steel sheets, a flat type of friction test was conducted on three different steel sheets under various contact pressures. For bare steel sheets, the curve representing the relationship between contact pressure and friction coefficient exhibits a U shape. Coated steel sheets show a similar tendency except at low contact pressure. For these materials, when the contact pressure is very low, the friction coefficient slightly increases with pressure before it starts to decrease. The test results show that the effect of contact pressure on frictional behavior of steel sheet is not negligible even for contact pressures that are lower than the strength of HSS sheet.
Super low temperature has many applications nowadays, from the chemical processing, automotives manufacturing, plastic recycling, etc. Considering of its wide application in the present and the future, study of the super-low temperature refrigeration system should be actively carried out. Super low state temperature can be achieved by using multi-stage refrigeration system. This paper present the development and testing of cascade refrigerator system for achieving super-low temperature. On this experiment, two different types of HCFCs refrigerants are utilized, R-22 and R-23 were applied for the high stage and the low-pressure stage respectively. The lowest temperature in the low-pressure evaporator that can be achieved by this cascade refrigeration system is down to $-85^{\circ}C$. This experiment is aimed to study the effect of inlet pressure of the low-pressure stage evaporator and low-pressure stage compressors inlet pressure characteristics to the overall temperature characteristics of cascade refrigeration system.
