Recently, high luminance and high efficiency were realized in OLEDs with multilayer structure including emitting materials such as metal-chelate complexes. New luminescent materials, [2- (2-hydroxyphenyl)-quinoline] (Zn(HPB)q), [(1,10-phenanthroline)- (8-hydroxyquinoline)] Zn(Phen)q was synthesized. Zn-Complexes have low molecular compound and thermal stability. The ionization potential(IP) and electron affinity(EA) of Zn-complexes were measured by cyclic-voltammetry(CV). The fundamental structure of the OLEDs was $ITO/{\alpha}$-NPD/Zn-Complex/Al and then we made device structure rightly in energy band gap. We using Zn(Phen)q as emitting layer and Zn(HPB)q as electron transport layer. We measured current density-voltage, luminance-voltage characteristics.
The Townsend to glow discharge mode transition was investigated in the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) helium plasma source which was powered by 20 kHz / $4.5 kV_{rms}$ high voltage at atmospheric pressure. The spatial profile of the electric field strength at each modes was measured by using the intensity ratio method of two helium emission lines (667.8 nm ($3^1D{\rightarrow}2^1P$) and 728.1 nm ($3^1S{\rightarrow}2^1P$)) and the Stark effect. ICCD images were analyzed with consideration for the electric field property. The Townsend discharge (TD) mode at the initial stage of breakdown has the light emission region located in the vicinity of the anode. The electric field of the light emitting region is close to the applied field in the system. Immediately, the light emitting region moves to the cathode and the discharge transits to the glow discharge (GD) mode. This mode transition can be understood with the ionization wave propagation. The electric field of the emitting region of GD near cathode is higher than that of TD near anode because of the cathode fall formation. This observation may apply to designing a DBD process system and to analysis of the process treatment results.
High energy photon beams from medical linear accelerators produce large scattered radiation by various components of the treatment head, collimator and walls or objects in the treatment room including the patient. These scattered radiation do not provide therapeutic dose and are considered a hazard from the radiation safety perspective. Scattered dose of therapeutic high energy radiation beams are contributed significant unwanted dose to the patient. ICRP take the position that a dose of 500mGy may cause abortion at any stage of pregnancy and that radiation detriment to the fetus includes risk of mental retardation with a possible threshold in the dose response relationship around 100 mGy for the gestational period. The ICRP principle of as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) was recommended for protection of occupation upon the linear no-threshold dose response hypothesis for cancer induction. We suggest this ALARA principle be applied to the fetus and testicle in therapeutic treatment. Radiation dose outside a photon treatment filed is mostly due to scattered photons. This scattered dose is a function of the distance from the beam edge, treatment geometry, primary photon energy, and depth in the patient. The need for effective shielding of the fetus and testicle is reinforced when young patients ate treated with external beam radiation therapy and then shielding designed to reduce the scattered photon dose to normal organs have to considered. Irradiation was performed in phantom using high energy photon beams produced by a Varian 2100C/D medical linear accelerator (Varian Oncology Systems, Palo Alto, CA) located at the Yonsei Cancer Center. The composite phantom used was comprised of a commercially available anthropomorphic Rando phantom (Phantom Laboratory Inc., Salem, YN) and a rectangular solid polystyrene phantom of dimensions $30cm{\times}30cm{\times}20cm$. the anthropomorphic Rando phantom represents an average man made from tissue equivalent materials that is transected into transverse 36 slices of 2.5cm thickness. Photon dose was measured using a Capintec PR-06C ionization chamber with Capintec 192 electrometer (Capintec Inc., Ramsey, NJ), TLD( VICTOREEN 5000. LiF) and film dosimetry V-Omat, Kodak). In case of fetus, the dosimeter was placed at a depth of loom in this phantom at 100cm source to axis distance and located centrally 15cm from the inferior edge of the $30cm{\times}30cm^2$ x-ray beam irradiating the Rando phantom chest wall. A acryl bridge of size $40cm{\times}40cm^2$ and a clear space of about 20 cm was fabricated and placed on top of the rectangular polystyrene phantom representing the abdomen of the patient. The leaf pot for testicle shielding was made as various shape, sizes, thickness and supporting stand. The scattered photon with and without shielding were measured at the representative position of the fetus and testicle. Measurement of radiation scattered dose outside fields and critical organs, like fetus position and testicle region, from chest or pelvic irradiation by large fie]d of high energy radiation beam was performed using an ionization chamber and film dosimetry. The scattered doses outside field were measured 5 - 10% of maximum doses in fields and exponentially decrease from field margins. The scattered photon dose received the fetus and testicle from thorax field irradiation was measured about 1 mGy/Gy of photon treatment dose. Shielding construction to reduce this scattered dose was investigated using lead sheet and blocks. Lead pot shield for testicle reduced the scatter dose under 10 mGy when photon beam of 60 Gy was irradiated in abdomen region. The scattered photon dose is reduced when the lead shield was used while the no significant reduction of scattered photon dose was observed and 2-3 mm lead sheets refuted the skin dose under 80% and almost electron contamination. The results indicate that it was possible to improve shielding to reduce scattered photon for fetus and testicle when a young patients were treated with a high energy photon beam.

Patient dose verification is one of the most important parts in quality assurance of the treatment delivery for radiation therapy. The dose distributions may be meaningfully improved by modulating two dimensional intensity profile of the individual high energy radiation beams In this study, a new method is presented for the pre-treatment dosimetric verification of these two dimensional distributions of beam intensity by means of a charge coupled device video camera-based fluoroscopic device (henceforth called as CCD-VCFD) as a radiation detecter with a custom-made software for dose calculation from fluorescence signals. This system of dosimeter (CCD-VCFD) could reproduce three dimensional (3D) relative dose distribution from the digitized fluoroscopic signals for small (1.0$\times$1.0 cm$^2$ square, ø 1.0 cm circular ) and large (30$\times$30cm$^2$) field sizes used in intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). For the small beam sizes of photon and electron, the calculations are performed In absolute beam fluence profiles which are usually used for calculation of the patient dose distribution. The good linearity with respect to the absorbed dose, independence of dose rate, and three dimensional profiles of small beams using the CCD-VCFD were demonstrated by relative measurements in high energy Photon (15 MV) and electron (9 MeV) beams. These measurements of beam profiles with CCD-VCFD show good agreement with those with other dosimeters such as utramicro-cylindrical (UC) ionization chamber and radiographic film. The study of the radiation dosimetric technique using CCD-VCFD may provide a fast and accurate pre-treatment verification tool for the small beam used in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and can be used for verification of dose distribution from dynamic multi-leaf collimation system (DMLC).
Absorbed dose to water based protocols recommended that plane-parallel chambers be calibrated against calibrated cylindrical chambers in a high energy electron beam with $R_{50}$>7 $g/cm^2$ (E${\gtrsim}$16 MeV). However, such high-energy electron beams are not available at all radiotherapy centers. In this study, we are compared the absorbed dose to water determined according to cross-calibration method in a high energy electron beam of 16 MeV and in electron beam energies of 12 MeV below the cross-calibration quality remark. Absorbed dose were performed for PTW 30013, Wellhofer FC65G Farmer type cylindrical chamber and for PTW 34001, Wellhofer PPC40 Roos type plane-parallel chamber. The cylindrical and the plane-parallel chamber to be calibrated are compared by alternately positioning each at reference depth, $Z_{ret}=0.6R_{50}-0.1$ in water phantom. The $D_W$ of plane-parallel chamber are derived using across-calibration method at high-energy electron beams of 16, 20 MeV. Then a good agreement is obtained the $D_W$ of plane-parallel chamber in 12 MeV. The agreement between 20 MeV and 12 MeV are within 0.2% for IAEA TRS-398.

In this study we designed the radiation-hardened sensor signal processing modules that can be commonly used for a variety of sensors during normal operation and even in high-radiation environments caused by an accident. First development module was designed to receive the change of the R and C value from the sensors and to process the signal as a PWM modulation scheme. This module was assessed to have ± 10% error to the Full-Scale in the radiation test in the range of 12 kGy TID. The main cause of the error was analyzed as the annealing of the common circuit in the switching element and the consequent increase in the duty ratio of the pulse width modulation circuit according to the radiation dose increasement. The redesigned module for higher radiation resistivity with Stub transistor circuit was found to have less than 5% error to the Full-scale from the radiation test results for 20.7 kGy TID range.
We investigated the structures and electronic properties of CumSiOm+1 clusters with m = 0 - 7. For these clusters, we replaced a Cu atom in the copper oxide clusters with a Si atom. The B3LYP functional and LANL2DZ basis set were used for optimization of the molecular structures of all neutral and charged clusters. The bond distances, bond angles, and Mulliken charges were calculated to study the structural properties. In addition, in order to understand the electronic properties, we examined the ionization energies, electronic affinities, and second differences in energies.

The diagnostic multi-leaf collimator preventing unnecessary dose from entering into patients during the diagnostic examination was made in this study. The movement of the entire 50 leaves was embodied with the group of 25 ones thereof configured in a pair facing each other on the left and right of the median line. Dimensions of the length, width, and height of each shielding leaf were $5{\times}0.5{\times}0.5cm^3$ resulting in the maximum boost field of $10{\times}10cm^2$. The material of multi-leaf collimator had the excellence on the machinability with the use of the SKD-11 alloy tool steel having the high wear resistance against frequent movement, and it was devised to control both-side's shielding leaves by moving 2 motors unlike existing remedial multi-leaf collimator that use as many motors as the number of 50 shielding leaves. Thereafter, the transmission dose of leaves, cross-leaf leakage dose, and inter-leaf leakage dose were measured by the developed multi-leaf collimator attached to X-ray equipment. An ionization chamber was used to detect doses there from, and the comparative analysis was carried out by means of the radiographic film that was easy to detect the dose leakage in between each leaf. Results obtained from the test conducted in comparative analysis yielded approximately 98%, 96%, and 94% of shielding efficiency realized at each level of energy of 80kV, 100kV, and 120kV it was confirmed there was no dose leakage resulted from the varied level of irradiation energy. Thus the multi-leaf collimator to be developed based on this study is thought that it could fully reduce the unnecessary dose to patients in the diagnostic test and the shielding efficiency thereof is expected to be increasing if it is made in a miniaturized form with a way of increasing the thickness of each leaf later for an extended application to general diagnostic purposes.

A high resolution spectroscopic observation of the red supergiant star RM_1-390 in the Large Magellanic Cloud was made from a 3.6 m telescope at the European Southern Observatory. Spectral resolving power was R=20,000, with a signal-to-noise ratio S/N > 100. We found the atmospheric parameters of RM_1-390 to be as follows: the effective temperature $T_{eff}=4,250{\pm}50K$, the surface gravity ${\log}\;g=0.16{\pm}0.1$, the microturbulent velocity $v_{micro}=2.5km/s$, the macroturbulence velocity $v_{macro}=9km/s$ and the iron abundance $[Fe/H]=-0.73{\pm}0.11$. The abundances of 18 chemical elements from silicon to thorium in the atmosphere of RM_1-390 were found using the spectrum synthesis method. The relative deficiencies of all elements are close to that of iron. The fit of abundance pattern by the solar system distribution of r- and s-element isotopes shows the importance of the s-process. The plot of relative abundances as a function of second ionization potentials of corresponding chemical elements allows us to find a possibility of convective energy transport in the photosphere of RM_1-390.

In this paper, pulsed discharge is used to control the luminous color in gas discharge tubes. The luminous color of the positive column in gas discharge tubes filled with Hg-Ar-Ne (1: 9, 60[Torr]) and having no phosphor material, varies from red to blue emitted by the Ne and Hg from the pulsed discharge. With changing of pulse-width and frequency, the electron temperature in the transient period affects changes to the residual ion and metastable atom densities. The first metastable atoms containing energy levels of about 16.6 [eV]have a very high probability that a collision will result in the ionization potential of Ar being 15.8 [eV]. The change of locus in the CIE chromaticity diagram with increasing pulse-width and frequency approves the variation of luminous color.
