This paper proposes a single-stage half-bridge electronic ballast with a high power factor using only a single coupled inductor. Compared to conventional high power factor electronic ballasts, the proposed ballast is a simpler circuit with a low cost and a high reliability. The proposed ballast is made up of a power-factor-correction (PFC) circuit and a self-oscillating class-D inverter. The PFC and inverter stages of the proposed ballast are simplified by sharing only a single coupled inductor and two common switches. The proposed PFC circuit can achieve a high power factor and low voltage stresses of the switches. A saturable transformer in the self-oscillating class-D inverter determines the switching frequency of the ballast. Experimental results obtained on a 30W fluorescent lamp are discussed.
This paper is indicating the problems, which are the conduction loss on the high frequency transformer, the protection of rectification diode as the snubber loss and the stress of switching main devices, as be made high current and high speed in the phase-shift switching full-bridge DC-DC converter is used the power supply's main circuit of high capacity. In this paper, to improve those problems, it is proposed that is the resonant circuit auxiliary can be reduced conduction losses and stabilized output control. And, it is constructed prototype of the power supply as the result of computer simulations.
This paper presents an interleaved resonant converter to reduce the voltage stress of power MOSFETs and achieve high circuit efficiency. Two half-bridge converters are connected in series at high voltage side to limit MOSFETs at $V_{in}/2$ voltage stress. Flying capacitor is used between two series half-bridge converters to balance two input capacitor voltages in each switching cycle. Variable switching frequency scheme is used to control the output voltage. The resonant circuit is operated at the inductive load. Thus, the input current of the resonant circuit is lagging to the fundamental input voltage. Power MOSFETs can be turn on under zero voltage switching. Two resonant circuits are connected in parallel to reduce the current stress of transformer windings and rectifier diodes at low voltage side. Interleaved pulse-width modulation is adopted to decrease the output ripple current. Finally, experiments are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed converter.
There is an increasing demand for efficient high power/weight auxiliary power supplies for use on high speed traction application. Many new conversion techniques have been proposed to reduce the voltage and current stress of switching components, and the switching losses in the traditional pulse width modulation(PWM) converter. Especially, the phase shift full bridge zero voltage switching PWM techniques are thought most desirable for many applications because this topology permits all switching devices to operate under zero voltage switching(ZVS) by using circuit parasitic components such as leakage inductance of high frequency transformer and power device junction capacitance. The proposed topology is found to have higher efficiency than conventional soft-switching converter. Also it is easily applicable to phase shift full bridge converter by applying an energy recovery snubber consisted of fast recovery diodes and capacitors.

The utility interactive sinewave modulated inverter for the solar photovoltaic (PV) power conversion and conditioning with a new high frequency pulse modulated link is presented for domestic residential applications. As compared with the conventional full-bridge hard switching PWM inverter with a high frequency AC link, the simplest single-ended quasi-resonant soft switching sinewave modulated inverter with a duty cycle pulse control is implemented, resulting in size and weight reduction and low-cost. This paper presents a prototype circuit of the single-ended zero voltage soft switching sinewave inverter for solar power conditioner and its operating principle. In addition, this paper proposes a control system to deliver high quality output current. Major design of each component and the power loss analysis under actual power processing is also discussed from an experimental point of view. A newly developed interactive sinewave power processor which has $92.5\%$ efficiencty at 4kW output is demonstrated. It is designed 540mm-300mm-125mm in size, and 20kg in weight.
A phasor estimation algorithm based on the least square curve fitting technique for the distorted secondary current due to current transformer (CT) saturation is proposed. The mathematical form of the secondary current during CT saturation is represented as the scaled primary current with magnetizing current. The information on the scaled primary current is estimated using the least square technique, with the measured secondary current in the saturated section. The proposed method can estimate the phasor of a fundamental frequency component during the saturated period. The performance of the algorithm is validated under various fault and CT conditions using a C400 CT model. A series of performance evaluations shows that the proposed phasor estimation algorithm can estimate the phasor of the fundamental frequency component with high accuracy, regardless of fault conditions and CT characteristics.
In this paper, using the newly developed GaAs Schottky beam-lead diode made by Marconi company, we have developed and evaluated the waveguide type single-ended mixer at Q-band. The various components of the mixer were separately designed and optimized using the Super-Compact software. These studies included the design of the step waveguide impedance transformer and the RF-choke filter, and the optimization of a high and low impedance for the RF-choke filter. Moreover, this RF-choke filter pattern included a section to reject the second harmonic frequency of the RF signal. Finally, this Q-band mixer with 1.4GHz/400MHz IF frequency exhibits an average conversion loss of 5.3 dB over 33-50GHz bandwidth.
A number of electromagnetic devices periodically driven by solid-state switches have been analyzed with time-stepping finite element method, which requires much time to reach a steady state. The sensitivity analysis which have been used for the shape design is employed for an efficient calculation of linear magnetodynamics with nonsinusoidal driving sources. The high-order frequency sensitivity from the harmonic finite element formulation is used along with Fourier transform and Taylor series expansion. The algorithm is validated through a numerical example of a single-phase transformer driven by a trapezoidal voltage source.
One of the most critical part for magnetron driving in microwave oven is start-up control. For this, switching frequency of resonant inverter should be carefully controlled in order to supply sufficient power to the filament of the magnetron and to prevent rectifier diode from destruction caused by the excessive voltage across them. This paper proposes a novel start-up control strategy for LLC resonant inverter for microwave oven considering the non-oscillation mode time and the magnetron voltage during the start-up process. The validity of the proposed method is verified through the experiment with 1,200W microwave oven using LLC resonant inverter.
