A study on the eddy current losses on the high-Tc superconducting power cable system

  • The structure of a high-Tc superconducting power cable system is composed of these parts; (from the outer section) a liquid nitrogen cryostat, a vacuum cryostat, multi-layer high-Tc superconducting cable cores and a stabilizer and both cryostats during the stable operating period of the high-Tc superconducting power cable system are calculated by the numerical method. And the optimal conditions of the stabilizer and both cryostats, that minimize the eddy current losses, are derived from the analyzed results. The optimal results can be applied to the design and manufacture of the high-Tc superconducting power cable system.

  • Many single-stage PFC(power-facto.-correction) ACHC converters suffer from the high link voltage at high input voltage and light load condition. In this paper, to suppress the link voltage, a novel high power factor high efficiency PFC AC/DC converter is proposed using the single controller which generates two gate signals so that one of them is used far gate signal of the flyback DC/DC converter switch and the other is applied to the Boost PFC stage. A 130w prototype for LCD monitor adapter with universal input $(90-265V_{rms})$ and 19.5V 6.7A output is implemented to verify the operational principles and performances. The experimental results show that the maximum link voltage stress is about 450V at 270Vac input voltage. Moreover, efficiency and power factor are over $84\%$ and 0.95, respectively, under the full load condition.

A Cooled Deformable Bimorph Mirror for a High Power Laser

  • Adaptive optics (AO) has been applied in various fields including astronomy, ophthalmology and high power laser systems. An adaptive optics system for a high power laser is not significantly different from other AO systems in the point of configuration except that high energy absorbed by the deformable mirror distorts the deformable mirror surface and so degrades system performance. Currently we are researching a bimorph deformable mirror for beam cleaning of a high power class laser. The bimorph mirror was considered to have 99% reflective coating and 1% absorption. So this paper first presents the temperature profiles and corresponding thermal distortions of the bimorph mirror faceplate when the mirror is under a high power lasing for 10 seconds. The analysis was accomplished by the use of finite difference and finite element computer programs to generate the element arrays, calculate the temperature profiles, and determine the structural deformations. Then this paper proposes an 'embedded wafer' type water-cooling system with derived cooling parameters.

  • Generally, a lot of reinforcements are used in nuclear power plant concrete structures in order to improve the structural safety, but it may cause several potential problems due to the overcrowded reinforcement, such as the degradation of concrete quality, the construction delay and the increase of construction cost. In order to resolve these problems, structural test researches and code change studies on using high-strength reinforcement (Gr.80) in unclear power plant structures are under way, and there is good progress in code change of ASM BPVC.III.2 and ACI 349. This purpose of this study is to review the code change status ASM BPVC.III.2, ACI 349 under way to use the high-strength reinforcement in nuclear power plant structures. Also I will introduce the design optimization of NPP structures with high-strength reinforcements in order to maximize the effect and minimize the problem when using the high-strength reinforcements in NPP structures.

Fuse Protection of IGBT Modules against Explosions

  • The demand for protection of power electronic application has during the last couple of vears increased regarding the high-power IGBT modules. Even with an active protection, a high power IGBT still has a risk of exhibiting a violent rupture in the case of a fault if IGBT Fuses do not protect it. By introducing fuses into the circuit this will increase the circuit inductance and slight inductance over-voltage during the turn-off of the diode and the IGBT. It is therefore vital when using fuses that the added inductance is kept at a minimum. This paper discuss three issues regarding the IGBT Fuse protection of adding inductance of existing High-speed and new Typower Fuse protection. First, the problem of adding inductance of exiting High-speed and new Typower Fuse DC-link circuit is treated, second a short discussion of protection of the IGBT module is done, and finally, the impect of the high frwquency loading on the currying capability of the fuses is presented.

  • We have introduced fourth generation PDPs last year. The performance of these PDPs is the highest level among TV displays. At the same time the power consumption of them has reached to the lowest level among FPDs (Flat Panel Displays). High panel luminous efficacy and low address power are necessary for the reduction of total power consumption. Following technologies have been developed and applied to the fourth generation PDPs. High panel luminous efficacy: T-shape electrode, waffle rib structure, high Xe content gas Low address power; CLEAR driving method, etc.

  • With the increasing demands for clean environment development of air cleaning systems has been received increasing attention. Pulse power systems are widely used for air cleaning in the industrial applications. High voltage pulse power supply affects the performance of the overall environmental system. In this study high voltage micro pulse power supply for removing NOx in diesel engines is developed. The ratings of the pulse voltage is 20kV. The pulse width is 10usec and max. pulse repetition ratio is 1kHz.

  • In this paper A switched mode AC/DC three phase boost converter with high power factor and sinusoidal input current waveform is analyzed and simulated. The proposed converter retain high power factor and sinusoidal input current waveform even under electric arc welder load. It is shown that experimental result and simulation waveform yield a sinusoidal input current waveform at high power factor.
