  • This paper deals with the design criteria and conduction noise reduction of electronic ballast system which is based on half-bridge series inverters. The system is theoretically analyzed in six modes and operating frequency range is selected to obtain the high efficacy and no sound noise. It is proposed the criteria for determining the values of L and C which are the dey points in system design Because of high operating frequency, electromagnetic noise, especially conduction noise, is a serious problem in electronic ballasts. To reduce the conduction noise, the operation and attenuation characteristics of noise filter are analyzed and the method to determine the values of filter elements is proposed. Also, the parasitic components of the inductor and capacitor are taken into consideration in filter analysis. Digital simulations and experiments are carried out to prove the theoretical results. And perfor mances of the system are verified through tests.

  • KTX trains show a high interior noise level in tunnel with concreted track at 300 km/h. Generally, the concreted track has higher sound emissions compared with ballasted track due to the reduced absorption and the major sources of interior noise for KTX are known as the aerodynamic noise and rolling noise. Therefore, It is necessary to find out noise source and noise components to affect interior noise in tunnel with concreted track. In this study, we measure the noise and vibration inside KTX in tunnel in order to find the cause of the interior noise of KTX. The analysis results show that the interior noise of KTX in tunnel with concreted track is increased sharply by a low frequency below 80 Hz. We know that the low frequency noise inside KTX in tunnel with concreted track is generated at the natural frequency of carbody by aerodynamic noise outside gangway and rolling noise. In order to reduce the noise level at 80 Hz, modification of mud-flap length between carbodys is suggested and the effect of noise reduction is examined in tunnel with concreted track.

  • When fluid at high speed flows over an open cavity, large acoustic pressure fields inside the cavity are produced by fluid/structure interactions at the downstream end of the cavity. The inter-coach spacing is one of the most important sources of the aero-acoustic noise of a high-speed train. This noise can usually be heard as low frequency structure-borne noise inside the train. In this study experiments were performed in order to investigate the effects of mud-flap length on the aeroacoustic noise generation inside high-speed trains. Results of the measurement confirmed that the characteristics of the noise generated from the inter-coach spacing are strongly dependent on the size of the gap. Also investigated are the characteristics of the turbulent flow after the inter-coach spacing and consequent generation of the aeroacoustic noise inside the cabin.

  • Currently, the spread of mobile devices is gradually increasing. Accordingly, various techniques using images or photos are actively being researched. However, image data generates noise for complex reasons, and the accuracy of image processing increases according to the performance of removing noise. Therefore, noise reduction is one of the essential steps. Salt and pepper noise is a typical impulse noise in the image, and various studies are being conducted to remove the noise. However, existing algorithms have poor noise rejection performance in high frequency areas, and average filters have blurring. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an algorithm that effectively removes salt and pepper noise in the high frequency region as well as the low frequency region using entropy. For objective and accurate judgment of proposed algorithms, MSE and PSNR were used to compare and analyze existing algorithms.

  • For cylindrical shells, the closed-form solutions are limited only to the cases with special boundary and/or loading conditions. Though the finite element method is certainly a powerful solution approach for the general structural dynamics problems, it is known to provide reliable solutions only in the low frequency region due to the inherent high sensitivities of structural and numerical modeling errors. Instead, the spectral element method has been proved to provide extremely accurate dynamic responses even in the high frequency region. Since the wave characteristics of a cylindrical shell becomes identical to that of a flat plate as the frequency increases, an equivalent plate model (EPM) representing the high-frequency dynamic characteristics of a cylindrical shell is introduced herein. The EPM-based spectral element analysis solutions are compared with the known analytical solutions for the corresponding cylindrical shell to confirm the validity of the present modeling approach.

  • Recently, many people have been damaged seriously by construction noise. Accordingly, there have been increased the complaints and disputes. These complaints should be controlled strictly. Otherwise there could be delays or stops of project and losses of time and money. For this reasons, the Korean government is trying to convert from depending on the soundproof wall to noise control system focusing on noise sources. However, it is difficult to control the noise which is generated from construction site because construction equipment has very high noise level and construction noise generates temporarily and irregularly. Also, people do not know how much low frequency affect human body adversely because they cannot perceive low frequency noise easily. Hence, recently developed countries have conducted the research on the low frequency noise which damages on human physically and mentally. However, passive noise control is insufficient to reduce the low frequency noise, but only efficient to lower the high frequency noise. Thus, an approach which can complement limitations of passive noise control is needed. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to suggest the noise management model using active noise control on construction site. Also, ANC simulation has been conducted to examine its applicability on construction equipment. As a result, it is expected that there will be a reduction of construction noise and demages, as well as both mental and physical damages.

  • Design target values of transmission loss in a high-speed train wall are suggested by calculating the difference between interior and exterior noise levels of it. Exterior noise level distribution on the boundary of train wall is calculated by Sysnoise, with sound source input prepared by experiments. Two kinds of exterior sound sources are considered, the rolling noise of train wheels on the rail and the aerodynamic noise from the pantograph. Interior noise level is provided by high-speed design target. Transmission loss characteristics according to the frequency band are examined.

  • ECG signals are often contaminated with high-frequency noise such as muscle artifact, power line interference, and others. In the ECG signal processing, especially during a pre-processing stage, numerous noise removal techniques have been used to reduce these high-frequency noise without much distorting the original signal. This paper proposes a new type of digital filter with a continuously variable cutoff frequency to improve the signal quality This filter consists of a cutoff frequency controller (CFC) and variable cutoff frequency lowpass filter (VCF-LPF). From the noisy input ECG signal, CFC produces a cutoff frequency control signal using the signal slew rate. We implemented VCF-LPF based on two new filter design methods called convex combination filter (CCF) and weight interpolation fille. (WIF). These two methods allow us to change the cutoff frequency of a lowpass filter In an arbitrary fine step. VCF-LPF shows an excellent noise reduction capability for the entire time segment of ECG excluding the rising and falling edge of a very sharp QRS complex. We found VCF-LPF very useful and practical for better signal visualization and probably for better ECG interpretation. We expect this new digital filter will find its applications especially in a home health management system where the measured ECG signals are easily contaminated with high-frequency noises .

  • This paper is focused on the analysis of the noise and vibration measured near the wheelset of the high-speed trains using a time-varying frequency transform as a preliminary research of running monitoring. Due to the non-stationary characteristics, it is necessary to examine noise and vibration of the train with time-varying frequency transforms. In this paper, the short-time Fourier transform method is utilized - the stored data is localized by modulating with a window function, and Fourier transform is taken to each localized data. For the examination, the non-stationary noise and vibration of the high-speed train's wheelset are measured by using some microphones and accelerometers, and those signals are stored in a on-board data acquisition system. The non-stationary random signal analyses with the short-time Fourier transform are performed, and the result are classified as follows; auto-spectral density, cross-spectral density, frequency response, and coherence functions. From those functions, it is possible to observe the frequency characteristics of sleepers, switchers, tunnels, and steel bridges. Also, some distinct peaks, which are not dependent upon the train's speed, are identified from the results.

  • Research on elevator noise has mainly focused on the cause of its occurrence and measures to reduce it. There is still insufficient research on how to accurately measure and evaluate elevator noise. There is a measurement method established as an international standard for the measurement method, but it is also difficult to apply to high-rise apartments, and there are many cases that do not closely reflect the characteristics of elevator noise. In order to solve this problem, a study was conducted to improve the elevator noise measurement method in the current standard. In this study, the characteristics of elevator noise were closely identified. Through frequency analysis of the elevator noise and other equipment, it was verified that the elevator noise is noise with different characteristics from other equipment. Elevator noise was compared with heavy floor impact noise, which is a representative structural transmission noise, as structural transmission noise. Elevator noise was compared with heavy floor impact noise, which is a representative structural transmission noise, as structural transmission noise. The correlation between bang machine and rubber ball was found to be very high at 0.9 level. As a result, it was verified that the mid-low frequency band of the elevator noise is the main structural transmission noise and cannot be evaluated together with other equipment.
