In the case of designing a high dose rate remote controlled afterloading treatment room with existing hospital facilities. We must construct the effective protective barriers so as to reduce the primary and scattered radiation up to the maximum permissible dose level. It is difficult to reinforce the barrier thickness of the shielding requirements because of the limited space and the problem of the existing building structure at the surrounding area. Therefore we can reduce the intensity of primary radiation to the required degree at the location of interest with installing the appropriate I shaped Pb barriers between the radiation source and the shielding wall of the concrete. As a result, it was possible to reduce the intensity of the primary radiation below the M.P.D level by using additional Pb barriers instead of increasing thickness of concrete wall.
Recently, electronic personal dosimeters based upon silicon PIN photodiode or miniature GM tube were developed and have attracted a lot of attention because of the advantages of their nature such as indication of dose rate and the cumulative dose, and facilitation of record keeping. In this paper, we have developed a high-sensitivity electronic personal dosimeter with silicon PIN photodiode. The electronic personal dosimeter is constructed with silicon PIN photodiode, preamplifier, and shaping amplifier. To show the effectiveness of electronic personal dosimeter, we conducted nuclear radiation experiments using $\gamma$-ray Ba-133, Cs-137, and Co-60. The electronic personal dosimeter have a good linearity on $\gamma$-ray energy and activity.

Many of the physical and chemical properties of polymer materials can be altered by high energy radiation. In the present work the exposure to radiation of low density polyethylene(LDPE) included antioxidants was carried out at various doses up to 600kGy at a dose rate of 5kGy/hr in the presence of air at room temperature. The study of the irradiation effects on the material properties has been make by different methods in an integrated way. The experimental data indicate that the decomposition onset temperature(DOT), the crystallinity and the thermoluminescence(TL) with radiation dose. DOT, crystallinity and TL analysis from irradiated PE samples provides useful data for the characterization of radiation-induced oxidation effects on these samples.
The mechanics underlying photon and electron interactions was validated using our developed Brachytherapy computer code for high Dose Rate (HDR). By comparing the photon cross-section utilizing multiple physics libraries in the developed code, the results were benchmarked against experimental and theoretical findings. Klein-Nishina and experimental cross-section results were in good agreement with the Livermore library results. For two therapeutically relevant materials, the first scattered electron range was measured within 1 mm and 2 mm, which has significant implications for the interpretation of the kernel dose spikes observed in previous research.
The source position and source dwelling time in a given source arrangement in the applicators is very high effect to determine the expose time which in general is derived from the brachytherapy planning system. In high dose rate (HDR) intracavitary radiation therapy (ICRT), the treatment is often performed in based out-patient during the whole fractionation irradiations. However, the patient should be waited on coutch for ICR treatment in first start fraction as unconvinent and immobilized state until perform the dose plannings. In our experiments, the HDR source contributed dose for$55.89{\pm}4.20%$ for straight tandem source, $38.14{\pm}4.46%$ for the right ovoid soucre on the fornix and$5.97{\pm}0.50%$ for left ovoid source. It also showed the $60.33{\pm}6.53%$ for the tandem, $33.10{\pm}6.74%$ for right ovoid and $6.58{\pm}0.30%$ for the left ovoid source in 10 degrees of applicator. The authors designed the source template dose planning software for ICRT of uterine cervix results average $-0.55{\pm}2.15%$ discrepancy of the full charged brachytherapy dose planning. Developed Source temperate ICRT plaanning software guide a minimized the complains and operating times within a ${\pm}3%$ of dose discrepancies.
Aircrews and passengers are exposed to radiation from cosmic rays and secondary scattered rays generated by reactions with air or aircraft. For aircrews, radiation safety management is based on the exposure dose calculated using a space-weather environment simulation. However, the exposure dose varies depending on solar activity, altitude, flight path, etc., so measuring by route is more suggestive than the calculation. In this study, we developed an instrument to measure the cosmic radiation dose using a general-purpose Si sensor and a multichannel analyzer. The dose calculation applied the algorithm of CRaTER (Cosmic Ray Telescope for the Effects of Radiation), a space radiation measuring device of NASA. Energy and dose calibration was performed with Cs-137 662 keV gamma rays at a standard calibration facility, and good dose rate dependence was confirmed in the experimental range. Using the instrument, the dose was directly measured on the international line between Dubai and Incheon in May 2023, and it was similar to the result calculated by KREAM (Korean Radiation Exposure Assessment Model for Aviation Route Dose) within 12%. It was confirmed that the dose increased as the altitude and latitude increased, consistent with the calculation results by KREAM. Some limitations require more verification experiments. However, we confirmed it has sufficient utilization potential as a cost-effective measuring instrument for monitoring exposure dose inside or on personal aircraft.

Objectives: The aims of this study are to investigate how X-rays are emitted to surrounding parts during the ion implantation process, to analyze these emissions in relation to the properties of the ion implanter equipment, and to estimate the resulting exposure dose. Eight ion implanters equipped with high-voltage electrical systems were selected for this study. Methods: We monitored X-ray emissions at three locations outside of the ion implanters: the accelerator equipped with a high-voltage energy generator, the impurity ion source, and the beam line. We used a Personal Portable Dose Rate and Survey Meter to monitor real-time X-ray levels. The SX-2R probe, an X-ray Features probe designed for use with the RadiagemTM meter, was also utilized to monitor lower ranges of X-ray emissions. The counts per second (CPS) measured by the meter were estimated and then converted to a radiation dose (𝜇Sv/hr) based on a validated calibration graph between CPS and μGy/hr. Results: X-rays from seven ion implanters were consistently detected in high-voltage accelerator gaps, regardless of their proximity. X-rays specifically emanated from three ion implanters situated in the ion box gap and were also found in the beam lines of two ion implanters. The intensity of these X-rays did not show a clear pattern relative to the devices' age and electric properties, and notably, it decreased as the distance from the device increased. Conclusions: In conclusion, every gap, in which three components of the ion implanter devices were divided, was found to be insufficiently shielded against X-ray emissions, even though the exposure levels were not estimated to be higher than the threshold.
Purpose : This study was done to analyze survivals, patterns of failure, and complications of early uterine cervix cancer after curative radiotherapy. Materials and Methods : Eighty patients with uterine cervix cancer FIGO Stage IB (48 cases) and Stage IIA (32 cases) treated with radiotherapy were analyzed retrospectively. Patients were treated from November 1985 to May 1993, and minimum follow up period was 24 months and 6 cases were lost to follow up. All of them were treated with external radiotherapy and different fractions of high dose rate intracavitary radiotherapy, Survival rates, failure patterns, complication rates and degrees of severity were analyzed according to several factors. Results : Overall 5 year survival rate and relapse free survival rate were $72.3\%$, and $72.8\%$ respectively. Prognostic factors were stage, size, pathology, RT response and there was no significant survival difference among the reasons of radiotherapy choice. There were 19 cases of treatment failure, another 3 cases were not tumor related death, and most of treatment related failure occurred within 24 months Late complication rate of bladder and rectum were $8.8\%,\;15\%$ respectively, frequency and severity of complication were correlated with ICR fractionation dose and total dose. Conclusion : These results showed that survival rates of early stage radiation treated cervix cancer patients were comparable to surgical series, but more aggressive treatment methods needed for stage IIA poor prognostic patients. To decrease late complication, choice of proper ICR dose and meticulous vaginal packing is needed.
Esterification of soybean oil with methanol was investigated. First of all, liquid-liquid equilibriums for systems of soybean oil and methanol were measured at temperatures ranging from 40 to 65$^{\circ}C$. Profiles of conversion of soybean oil with time were determined from the glycerine content in reaction mixtures for the different kinds of catalysts, such as NaOH, CaO, Ca(OH)$_2$, MgO, Mg(OH)$_2$, and Ba(OH)$_2$. The effects of dose of catalyst, cosolvent and reaction temperature on final conversion were examined. Esterification of waste vegetable oil with methanol was investigated and compared to the case of soybean oil. Solubility of methanol in soybean oil was substantially greater than that of soybean oil in methanol. When the esterification reaction of soybean oil was catalyzed by solid catalyst, final conversion was strongly dependent on the alkalinity of the solid catalyst, and increased with the alkalinity of the metal. Hydroxides from the alkali metals were more effective than oxides. When Ca(OH)$_2$ was used for the esterification catalyst, maximum value of final conversion was measured at dose of 4%. When CHCl$_3$ as a cosolvent, was added into the reaction mixture of soybean oil which catalyzed by Ba(OH)$_2$, maximum value of final conversion was appeared at dose of 3%. When waste vegetable oil was catalyzed by NaOH and solid catalysts, high final conversion, over 90%, and fast reaction rate were obtained.
