성장기 연령 변화에 따른 좌우안 크기 변화 비교 연구 (Comparative Study on Growth Stage Aging Changes of The Right and Left Eye Size in Korean)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 한국인중 성장기에 있는 연령층에서 좌,우안 크기와 동공중심간거리가 연령변화에 따라 어떻게 변화되고 있는가를 비교하는데 있다. 대상은 7세부터 30까지의 연령층으로 전국의 남,녀를 무작위로 선정하여 5그룹으로 나누어 조사대상으로 하였다. 오른쪽눈 외안각에서 왼쪽눈 외안각까지의 길이와 두눈사이 길이가 최고치를 나타낸 것은 모두 B그룹에서 각각 94.30mm, 36.66mm이었고 각 연령별로 좌,우 눈의 크기 차이가 없는 사람의 비율은 ABC 그룹이 10.0% 정도로 나타났고 E 그룹에서는 22.7%의 수치를 나타내었다. 전체 길이에서 두눈 크기의 평균값을 뺀 수치는 동공중심간 거리보다 더 넓었다. B 그룹이 5.72mm, E 그룹에서는 1.13mm의 차이를 나타내 중등학생 해당자가 만 25세 이상 해당자보다 4.00mm이상 더 큰 수치를 나타냈다. 따라서 동공 중심은 눈의 중심에서 약간 코쪽으로 치우쳐 있음을 알 수 있고 어련 연령층 해당자가 만 25세 이상 해당자보다 더 많이 치우쳐 있음을 예상할 수 있다.

Effect of Bacillus subtilis Natto on Meat Quality and Skatole Content in TOPIGS Pigs

  • This study investigated the effect of Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis) natto on meat quality and skatole in TOPIGS pigs. Sixty TOPIGS pigs were randomly assigned to 3 groups (including 5 pens per group, with 4 pigs in each pen) and fed with basic diet (control group), basic diet plus 0.1% B. subtilis natto (B group), and basic diet plus 0.1% B. subtilis natto plus 0.1% B. coagulans (BB group), respectively. All pigs were sacrificed at 100 kg. Growth performance, meat quality, serum parameters and oxidation status in the three groups were assessed and compared. Most parameters regarding growth performance and meat quality were not significantly different among the three groups. However, compared with the control group, meat $pH_{24}$, fat and feces skatole and the content of Escherichia coli (E. Coli), Clostridium, $NH_3$-N were significantly reduced in the B and BB groups, while serum total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein, the levels of liver P450, CYP2A6, and CYP2E1, total antioxidant capability (T-AOC) and glutathione peroxidase and Lactobacilli in feces were significantly increased in the B and BB groups. Further, the combined supplementation of B. subtilis natto and B. coagulans showed more significant effects on the parameters above compared with B. subtilis, and Clostridium, and $NH_3$-N. Our results indicate that the supplementation of pig feed with B. subtilis natto significantly improves meat quality and flavor, while its combination with B. coagulans enhanced these effects.

  • During March to October 1973 at National Medical Center, one thousand four hundred sixty four pathogens that exclude penicillin sensitive organisms such as gonococcus, pneumococcus, streptococcus; ampicillin sensitive H. influenzae and gentamicin sensitive pseudomonas spp, were isolated. These strains identified as follows: Sta. aureus 399 E. coli 359 Sta. epidermidis 183 Klebsiella spp 171 Proteus spp 103 B. anitratum 80 Salmonella spp 68 Enterococcus 53 Shigella spp 48 In general, Sta. epidermidis is regarded as nonpathogen, however, author included pure culture of this bacteria in this study. 1. High susceptibility to staphylococcus reveals cephalosporin, methicillin, gentamicin & leucomycin. 2. Ampicillin is only one susceptible antibiotic to Enterococcus. 3. Cephalosporin and gentamicin reveal susceptible antibiotics to E. coli. 4. Gentamicin is only one susceptible antibiotic to Klebsiella spp. 5. Gentamicin & carbenicillin reveal moderately susceptible antibiotics to Proteus spp. 6. There is no susceptible antibiotic to B. anitratum. 7. About thirty percent strains of salmonella are resistant to chloramphenicol. 8. Carbenicillin, cephalosporin & gentamicin reveal susceptible to shigella spp. 9. Multiple resistant rate to more than two antibiotics which includes tetracycline are as follows. Sta. aureus 56.5% E. coli. 80.9% Shigella spp 93.8%

Isolation and Characterization of Monokaryotic Strains of Lentinula edodes Showing Higher Fruiting Rate and Better Fruiting Body Production

  • The effects of monokaryotic strains on fruiting body formation of Lentinula edodes were examined through mating and cultivation of the mated dikaryotic mycelia in sawdust medium. To accomplish this, monokaryotic strains of L. edodes were isolated from basidiospores of the commercial dikaryotic strains, Chamaram (Cham) and Sanjo701 (SJ701). A total of 703 matings (538 self-matings and 165 outcrosses) were performed, which generated 133 self-mates and 84 outcross mates. The mating rate was 25% and 50% for self-mating and outcross, respectively. The bipolarity of the outcross indicated the multi-allelic nature of the mating type genes. The mating was only dependent on the A mating type locus, while the B locus showed no effect, implying that the B locus is multi-allelic. Next, 145 selected dikaryotic mates were cultivated in sawdust medium. The self-mated dikaryotic progenies showed 51.3% and 69.5% fruiting rates for Cham and SJ701, respectively, while the fruiting rate of the outcross mates was 63.2%. The dikaryotic mates generated by mating with one of the monokaryotic strains, including A20, B2, E1, and E3, showed good fruiting performance and tended to yield high fruiting body production, while many of the monokaryotic strains failed to form fruiting bodies. Overall, these findings suggest that certain monokaryotic strains have traits enabling better mating and fruiting.

칼슘강화 메뉴 첨가에 의한 학교급식 식단 조정이 여고생의 영양소 섭취 개선에 미치는 효과 (Effect of School Lunch Menu Intervention through Calcium Enriched Menus on Nutrient Intakes of High School Girls)

  • This study was conducted to improve the nutritional status of high school girls via lunch menu intervention. Surveys were carried out twice to evaluate basal status and status after lunch menu intervention. In the first survey nutrient intakes of 24-hour and school lunch were each estimated by 24-hour recall dietary survey and self-recording, respectively. Calcium intake was the lowest among nutrients, and stir-frying was the most preferred cooking method. Five dishes of school lunch menus which were included in the first survey were replaced with recipes containing foods with higher calcium level; anchovy stir-fried with red pepper paste, anchovy stir-fried with almond, pork stir-fried with shredded kelp, crab meat soup, and tteokbokki with cheese. In the second survey calcium intake from school lunch was significantly (p < 0.001) increased from 45.5% to 50.2% of one thirds of recommended intake (RI) after calcium enriched lunch menu intervention. Intakes of vitamin A and E were also significantly increased, whereas those of energy, thiamin, and vitamin C were decreased. Index of nutritional quality values of nutrients of 24-hour intakes (except thiamin, vitamin B6, vitamin C) is increased by intervention; however, those of calcium, folic acid, iron are still very low. Even though this study shows a possibility of improving nutrient intakes of students through school lunch menu intervention, lunch intervention by itself is not enough action to improve nutritional status of micronutrient for adolescents.

Improvement of mechanical properties of bio-concrete using Enterococcus faecalis and Bacillus cereus

  • The present study aimed to investigate the potential of Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) and Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) in improving the properties of bio-concrete. E. faecalis and B. cereus strains were obtained from fresh urine and an acid mire water at cell concentration of 1.16×1012 and 1.3×1012 cells mL-1, respectively. The bacterial strains were inoculated in a liquid medium into the concrete with 1, 3 and 5% as replacement of water cement ratio (w/c). The ability of E. faecalis and B. cereus cells to accumulate the calcite and the decrement of pores size within bio-concrete was confirmed by SEM and EDX analysis. The results revealed that E. faecalis exhibited high efficiency for increasing of compressive and splitting tensile strength than B. cereus (23 vs. 14.2%, and 13 vs. 8.5%, respectively). These findings indicated that E. faecalis is more applicable in the bio-concrete due to its ability to enhance strength development and reduce water penetration.

  • 본 연구는 TNT 분해능이 우수한 세균인 S. maltophilia OK-5를 이용하여 TNT 함유 폐수인 pink water의 미생물학적 처리 가능성에 대한 연구를 하였다. Pink water에 함유된 TNT 제거를 위해 S. maltophilia OK-5를 교반탱크 반응조에서 배양한 결과 pink water 내에 존재하는 100 mg/L의 TNT를 배양 6일 만에 완전 분해하였다. Hydride-Meisenheimer complex에서 유래하는 진한 적갈색은 배양기간 내에 증가하였으며, 이를 정량적으로 확인하였다. 본 연구에서 pink water에 잔류하는 TNT 뿐만 아니라 2,4-dinitrotoluene, 2,6-dinitrotoluene, 2,4-dinitro-6-hydroxytoluene 등의 대사산물도 HPLC 분석방법으로 측정하였으며, GC-MS를 사용하여 확인하였다. 또한 pink water에서 배양된 S. maltophilia OK-5에서 발현되는 nitroreductase (pnrB)의 유전자 발현 정량을 real time PCR로 측정하였다. 그 결과 배양 5일째 pnrB copy 수가 $10^3$ 이상 증가하는 것을 확인하였다.

Ferromagnetic Semiconductors: Preparation and Properties

  • The injection of spins into nonmagnetic semiconductors has recently attracted great interest due to the potential to create new classes of spin-dependent electronic devices. A recent strategy to achieve control over the spin degree of freedom is based on dilute ferromagnetic semiconductors. Ferromagnetism has been reported in various semiconductor groups including II-Ⅵ, III-V, IV and II-IV,-V$_2$, which will be reviewed. On the other hand, to date the low solubility of magnetic ions in non-magnetic semiconductor hosts and/or low Curie temperature have limited the opportunities. Therefore the search for other promising ferromagnetic semiconducting materials, with high magnetic moments and high Curie temperatures (Tc), is of the utmost importance. In this talk, we also introduce new pure ferromagnetic semiconductors, MnGeP$_2$ and MnGeAs$_2$, exhibiting ferromagnetism and a magnetic moment per Mn at 5K larger than 2.40 ${\mu}$B. The calculated electronic structures using the FLAPW method show an indirect energy gap of 0.24 and 0.06 eV, respectively. We have observed spin injection in MnGeP$_2$ and MnGeAs$_2$ magnetic tunnel junctions through semiconducting barriers.

24개월 이상 소아에서 요로 감염의 원인균과 항생제 감수성의 양상 : 6년간 단일 기관 경험 (Microbiological spectrum and antibiotic susceptibility pattern in more than 24-month-old children with urinary tract infection: A6-year retrospective, single center experience)

  • 목 적:본 연구의 목적은 2003년부터 2008년까지 24개월 이상 소아 요로 감염 원인균의 분포와 변화를 알아보고 주요 원인균인 Escherichia coli의 항생제 감수성의 시간에 따른 변화를 알아보고자 하였다. 방 법:2003년 1월에서 2008년 12월까지 본원에 열성 요로 감염으로 입원하여 치료받은 24개월 이상 환아의 기록을 후향적으로 분석하였다. 소변 배양 검사에서 단일 세균이 $10^5CFU/mL$ 이상인 경우에 유의하다고 보고 원인 균주와 항생제 감수성을 분석하였다. E. coli의 항생제 감수성의 변화 유무를 확인하기 위해 두 시기(A군: 2003-2005, B군: 2006-2008)로 나누어 chi-square test for trend를 사용하였다. 결 과:환아들로부터 63례의 균주가 분리되었다. 가장 흔한 원인균은 E. coli로 77.8%의 빈도를 보였다. 원인균들의 시기별 분포는 유의한 차이가 없었다(P>0.05). E. coli의 항생제 감수성은 aztreonam, cefotetan, cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, cefepime, amikacin, imipenem에 대하여 90% 이상, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole에 대하여 49%, ampicillin과 ampicillin/sulbactam에 대하여 20-25% 이었다. 두 시기 동안 E. coli의 감수성은 대부분 항생제에 대하여 변화가 없었으나, cefuroxime에 대한 감수성은 74.1%에서 95.5%로 증가하였고(P=0.006), ciprofloxacin에 대한 감수성은 59.3%에서 86.4%로 증가하였다(P=0.039). 결 론:E. coli 및 다른 그람 음성균은 trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, ampicillin, ampicillin/sulbactam에 감수성이 낮아 단독으로 요로 감염의 초기 경험적 항생제로 사용하는 것은 부적절하다고 생각되며, 적절한 경험적 항생제의 선택은 그 지역 사회의 원인균에 대한 지속적인 감시와 항생제 감수성의 결과에 근거를 두어야 하겠다.

Effect of Antioxidants on Physio-biochemical and Hematological Parameters in Broiler Chicken at High Altitude

  • The present study was carried out on broilers to study the effect of oral administration of vitamin E and selenium (E-care Se) on growth performance, haematological and biochemical parameters for a period of 42 days (6 weeks). A total of 90 oneday-old broiler chicks were divided into three equal groups: $T_1$, $T_2$ and $T_3$. Group T1 was maintained as control and was fed only with the basal diet throughout the experimental period. Two experimental diets, $T_2$ and $T_3$, were formulated to contain an additional 100 g (150 IU vitamin E/kg+0.5 mg Se/kg) and 200 g (300 IU vitamin E/kg+1.0 mg Se/kg) of E-care Se which was the source of vitamin E and selenium. Body weight was significantly (p<0.05) higher in antioxidant-treated groups compared to the control group. There were no significant differences in feed conversion ratio (FCR). Blood samples were collected from the jugular vein for haematological (TEC, Hb, PCV and ESR) and biochemical (GOT and GPT) study. Body weight was increased significantly in both treated groups compared with the control group and highest body weights were recorded in group $T_2$. TEC, PCV and Hb content increased significantly (p<0.01) in the treated groups as compared to the control group, but ESR, GOT and GPT values decreased significantly (p<0.01) in both treated groups as compared to the control group. The result reveals that use of antioxidants (vitamin E and selenium) is an effective way of getting the best result in terms of body weight gain and haemato-biochemical profiles in broiler birds at high altitude.
