Cloud radio access network (C-RAN) refers to the virtualization of base station functionalities by means of cloud computing. This results in a novel cellular architecture in which low-cost wireless access points, known as radio units or remote radio heads, are centrally managed by a reconfigurable centralized "cloud", or central, unit. C-RAN allows operators to reduce the capital and operating expenses needed to deploy and maintain dense heterogeneous networks. This critical advantage, along with spectral efficiency, statistical multiplexing and load balancing gains, make C-RAN well positioned to be one of the key technologies in the development of 5G systems. In this paper, a succinct overview is presented regarding the state of the art on the research on C-RAN with emphasis on fronthaul compression, baseband processing, medium access control, resource allocation, system-level considerations and standardization efforts.

We propose a cell selection and resource allocation scheme that assigns users to nearby accessible cells in heterogeneous wireless networks consisting of macrocell, femtocells, and Wi-Fi access points, under overload situation. Given the current power level of all accessible cells nearby users, the proposed scheme finds all possible cell assignment mappings of which user should connect to which cell to maximize the number of users that the network can accommodate at the same time. We formulate the cell selection problem with heterogeneous cells into an optimization problem of binary integer programming, and compute the optimal solution. We evaluate the proposed algorithm in terms of network access failure compared to a local ad-hoc based cell selection scheme used in practical systems using network level simulations. We demonstrate that our cell selection algorithm dramatically reduces network access failure in overload situation by fully leveraging network resources evenly across heterogeneous networks. We also validate the practical feasibility in terms of computational complexity of our binary integer program by measuring the computation time with respect to the number of users.

Network convergence is considered as one of the key solutions to the problem of achieving future high-capacity and reliable communications. This approach overcomes the limitations of separate wireless technologies. Efficient interface selection is one of the most important issues in convergence networks. This paper solves the problem faced by users of selecting the most appropriate interface in the heterogeneous radio-access network (RAN) environment. Our proposed scheme combines a hierarchical evaluation of networks and game theory to solve the network-selection problem. Instead, of considering a fixed weight system while ranking the networks, the proposed scheme considers the service requirements, as well as static and dynamic network attributes. The best network is selected for a particular service request. To establish a hierarchy among the network-evaluation criteria for service requests, an analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is used. To determine the optimum network selection, the network hierarchy is combined with game theory. AHP attains the network hierarchy. The weights of different access networks for a service are calculated. It is performed by combining AHP scores considering user's experienced static network attributes and dynamic radio parameters. This paper provides a strategic game. In this game, the network scores of service requests for various RANs and the user's willingness to pay for these services are used to model a network-versus-user game. The Nash equilibria signify those access networks that are chosen by individual user and result maximum payoff. The examples for the interface selection illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
In this paper, we investigate the resource allocation problem in time-varying heterogeneous wireless networks (HetNet) with multi-homing user equipments (UE). The stochastic optimization model is employed to maximize the network utility, which is defined as the difference between the HetNet's throughput and the total energy consumption cost. In harmony with the hierarchical architecture of HetNet, the problem of stochastic optimization of resource allocation is decomposed into two subproblems by the Lyapunov optimization theory, associated with the flow control in transport layer and the power allocation in physical (PHY) layer, respectively. For avoiding the signaling overhead, outdated dynamic information, and scalability issues, the distributed resource allocation method is developed for solving the two subproblems based on the primal-dual decomposition theory. After that, the adaptive resource allocation algorithm is developed to accommodate the timevarying wireless network only according to the current network state information, i.e. the queue state information (QSI) at radio access networks (RAN) and the channel state information (CSI) of RANs-UE links. The tradeoff between network utility and delay is derived, where the increase of delay is approximately linear in V and the increase of network utility is at the speed of 1/V with a control parameter V. Extensive simulations are presented to show the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.

In order to improve the Quality-of-Service (QoS) of latency sensitive applications in next-generation cellular networks, multi-path is adopted to transmit packet stream in real-time to achieve high-quality video transmission in heterogeneous wireless networks. However, multi-path also introduces two important challenges: out-of-order issue and reordering delay. In this paper, we propose a new architecture based on Software Defined Network (SDN) for flow aggregation and flow splitting, and then design a Multiple Access Radio Scheduling (MARS) scheme based on relative Round-Trip Time (RTT) measurement. The QoS metrics including end-to-end delay, throughput and the packet out-of-order problem at the receiver have been investigated using the extensive simulation experiments. The performance results show that this SDN architecture coupled with the proposed MARS scheme can reduce the end-to-end delay and the reordering delay time caused by packet out-of-order as well as achieve a better throughput than the existing SMOS and Round-Robin algorithms.
This paper suggests the energy-efficient message delivery scheme and the software platform which exploits the multiple network interfaces of the mobile terminals and GPS in the current mobile devices. The mobile terminals determine the delivery method among 'direct', 'indirect', and 'WAN' based on the position information of itself and other terminals. 'Direct' method sends a message directly to the target terminal using local RAT. 'Indirect' method extends the service area by exploiting intermediate terminals as relay node. If the target terminal is too far to reach through 'direct' or 'indirect' method, the message is sent using wireless WAN technology. Our proposed scheme exploits the position information and, thus, power consumption is drastically reduced in determining handover time and direction. Network simulation results show that our proposed delivery scheme improves the message transfer efficiency and the handover detection latency. We implemented a message platform in a smart phone realizing the proposed delivery scheme. We compared our platform with other typical message platforms from energy efficiency aspect by observing the real power consumption and applying the mathematical modeling. The comparison results show that our platform requires significantly less power.
To integrate heterogeneous distributed systems, there exist various researches and developments for the purpose of its adoption into enterprise environment. However, when web service technologies are applied, it is difficult to adopt directly existing software system development methodologies, because of the peculiar architecture of web services, such as service provider, service requester, and service repository. M4WSD(Method for Wes Services Development) is a web service development process model and involves procedures and guidelines to develop web services based on a Use Case model that is elicited from a business domain in requirement analysis. In this paper, we focus on how to determine key realization decisions for each service. The assessment guidelines help you to structure the problem of determining implementation strategy.
Due to the aging population and the entry of baby boomers into the elderly, the elderly are recognized as a group with diversity rather than a single group with the same needs. Therefore, it is necessary to try to grasp the factors that the elderly use welfare centers from the perspective of consumers. The results showed that gender, age, education, occupation, economic status, social class, number of friends, number of social activities, number of diseases, and depression were significant. In other words, women than men, older people, highly educated people, elderly people without jobs, elderly people with poor economic status, the elderly belonging to a lower social class, the more friends, the more social activities involved, the more diseases, the higher the depression, the higher the probability of using the welfare center. It was found that heterogeneous elderly groups, such as the elderly with high educational background, many friends, and active participation in society, and the elderly, economically difficult, and poor in health, use the welfare center. Based on these research results, policy and practical suggestions were made to improve the quality of welfare services for the elderly.

To improve the crystallinity of GaN, there are researches on surface treatment to control the difference in physical properties between GaN and heterogeneous substrate. 'Low-temperature GaN (LT-GaN)' is one of the ways to solve the problem and we investigated the relationship between growth temperature and properties of LT-GaN in our homemade vertical type HVPE. The LT-GaN nuclei were formed on the sapphire surface at low growth temperatures and they presented differences in the density and crystallinity depending on the growth temperature. Significantly, the stress relaxation effect on the epitaxial GaN (epi-GaN) was affected by the crystallinity of LT-GaN. However, the high crystallinity of LT-GaN exacerbated the crystal quality of epi-GaN because they worked as a catalyst and seed of polycrystalline.

Stock prices are influenced by a number of external factors, such as laws and trends, as well as number-based internal factors such as trading volume and closing prices. Since many factors affect stock prices, it is very difficult to accurately predict stock prices using only fragmentary stock data. In particular, since the value of a company is greatly affected by the perception of people who actually trade stocks, emotional information about a specific company is considered an important factor. In this paper, we propose a deep learning-based stock price prediction model using sentiment analysis with news data considering temporal characteristics. Stock and news data, two heterogeneous data with different characteristics, are integrated according to time scale and used as input to the model, and the effect of time scale and sentiment index on stock price prediction is finally compared and analyzed. Also, we verify that the accuracy of the proposed model is improved through comparative experiments with existing models.
