Purpose: No studies have been conducted to investigate the acute toxicity of aryloxyphenoxypropionate herbicides in humans following ingestion. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the clinical characteristics of aryloxyphenoxypropionate herbicide poisoning and provide guidance for physicians treating patients who have ingested these types of herbicides. Methods: A retrospective observational case series was conducted using ten patients with history of aryloxyphenoxy propionate herbicide. Data were collected for clinical manifestation, management and final outcome. Results: The most common symptoms were gastrointestinal irritation and an altered mental state (Glasgow Coma Scale<15). An elevated lactate level was a common laboratory abnormality, and prolonged QTc interval was commonly observed. These clinical features normalized within one day of supportive treatment. Conclusion: The acute toxicity of aryloxyphenoxypropionate herbicides in humans is manageable with supportive treatment. However, physicians should take into account depressed consciousness, the possibility of arrhythmia, and an elevated lactate level when planning their treatment strategy.

A granular herbicide applicator attached to conventional ride-on rice transplanter with 6 rows was developed in order to carry out both transplanting and herbicide application at once. It resulted in labor saving by 98%. The prototype is composed of a metering device and a spinning disc spreader. The application rate per 10a can be varied from 1 to 3 kg and the application swath is 1.8 m, which is the planting width of the ride-on rice transplanter with 6 rows. The angular speed of spinning disc and the application height were used as design factors to obtain the uniform distribution of herbicide granules. As the result of experiment, the distribution uniformity showed a tendency to be proportional to the increases of both spinner angular speed and application height. The prototype with angular speed of spinning disc of 7359 rpm and the application height of 20 cm was made and its distribution uniformity was relatively uniform with the CV(coefficient of variation) of 21.7%. In field test, when the tested herbicides such as ACl40+Stomp and Londax+YRC were applied, the weed control has continued for 65 days since transplanting was done.
Influence of herbicide oxadiazon on soil microbial activity and nitrogen dynamics was evaluated. Soil samples were treated with oxadiazon at field and tenfold field rates and incubated. Organic amendment was added as an additional substrate for soil microorganisms. Tenfold field rate oxadiazon stimulated substrate-induced respiration (SIR) and dehydrogenase activity (DHA) in amended soil as compared to unamended soil and control treatment. Soil urease activity was not affected by oxadiazon treatment. In both amended and unamended soils, treatment of the herbicide at higher rate had not significant influence on $NH_4$-N and $NO_3$-N concentrations. Higher dose of oxadiazon was degraded in both soils, but dissipation rate in amended soil was higher than unamended soil, with half-lives ($t_{1/2}$) of 23.1 and 138.6 days, respectively. Recommended field rate did not affect microbial activity and nitrogen dynamics in soil ecosystem. Results showed influence of oxadiazon on cycling processes of nitrogen in soil was not significant however its effect on microbial activity was a tendency depending on addition of organic amendment to soil.
This study was carried out to investigate the introduced route of exotic weeds and the effects of herbicide treatment. Herbicide trial was arranged as a completely randomized block design with treatment 1(\circled1 Dicamba $1\ell$/ha, \circled2 Mecoprop $5\ell$/ha, \circled3 Bentazone $3\ell$.ha, \circled4 Glyphosate $4\ell$/ha and \circled5 Pyrazosulfuron-ethyl 2kg/ha), and treatment 2(\circled1 Dicamba $2\ell$/ha, \circled2 Dicamba $4\ell$/ha, \circled3 Glyphosate $6\ell$/ha, \circled4 Glyphosate 4+Dicamba $1\ell$/ha and \circled5 Glyphosate 4+dicamba $2\ell$/ha) against 10 exotic weed species, and conducted in Suwon, Seosan and Yeongam from 1997 to 1999. Exotic weeds have been mostly introduced within imported cereals for concentrate feed or within seeds for forage production. Most of exotic weeds in forage crop field were controlled more than 95% by herbicide, but it was desirable that the control of exotic weeds was abreast of chemical and ecological method.
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of herbicide treatment and seeding method on the forage yield, weed control, and persistency in the Artemisia princeps dominated pasture. It was arranged as a randomized block design with seven treatments(\circled1 oversowing(control),\circled2 glyphosate 4 ${\ell}$/ha + oveysowing a \circled3glyphosate 4 ${\ell}$/ha + chiselreseeding, \circled4 paraquat dichloride 3 ${\ell}$/ha + oversowing,\circled5 paraquat dichloride 3 ${\ell}$/ha + chiselreseeding, \circled6 dicamba 4 ${\ell}$/ha + oversowing and \circled7 dicamba 4 ${\ell}$/ha + chiselreseeding), and conducted at National Livestock Research Institute in Suwon from June, 1985 to October, 1987. In the Artemisia princeps dominated pasture, the treatments of glyphosate 4 ${\ell}$/ha before oversowipg or chisel reseeding controlled 80.7-83.3% of the Artemisia princeps, and for two years the average dry weight of Artemisiaprinceps greatly decreased, but dry matter(DM) yield of forage increased 57-96% than that pf control. In the herbicide treatments, the average DM yield of forage in the plots with chisel r e d i n g was significantly higher when compared to oversowing. The results in this study indicated that herbicide treatment was effective for the control of Artemisiaprinceps, and good renovation of grassland and higher DM yield of forage could be obtained by application of glyphosate.
This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of herbicide mixtures of benzobicyclon and carfentrazone-ethyl in direct-seeding flooded rice. The efficacy of benzobicyclon mixtures and carfentrazone-ethyl mixtures was greater than that of pyrazosolfuron-ethyl + pyriminobac-methyl GR. Herbicide mixtures with benzobicyclon controlled average 97% and herbicide mixtures with carfentrazone-ethyl controlled average 95% 60 days after application. When compared with untreated control, no visual injuries were detected at single and double dosage of herbicide mixtures. The yield of rice increased in both benzobicyclon and carfentrazone-ethyl treatments when compared with pyrazosolfuron-ethyl + pyriminobac-methyl GR. Based on these data, combinations of these herbicides can be applied to provide effective weed management in rice field.
The rhizobacterial composition varies according to the soil properties. To test if the effect of herbicides on the rhizobacterial communities of genetically modified NK603 glyphosate-tolerant maize varies according to different soil locations, a comparison was made between the effects of glyphosate (Roundup Plus), a post-emergence applied herbicide, and a pre-emergence applied herbicide (GTZ) versus untreated soil. The potential effect was monitored by direct amplification, cloning, and sequencing of the soil DNA encoding 16S rRNA, and high-throughput DNA pyrosequencing of the bacterial DNA coding for the 16S rRNA hypervariable V6 region. The results obtained using three different methods to analyze the herbicide effect on the rhizobacterial communities of genetically modified NK603 maize were comparable to those previously obtained when glyphosate-tolerant maize was grown in soil with different characteristics. Both herbicides decreased the bacterial diversity in the rhizosphere, with Actinobacteria being the taxonomic group most affected. The results suggest that both herbicides affected the structure of the maize rhizobacterial community, but glyphosate was environmentally less aggressive.

Alternatives to commercial chemical herbicide are currently being searched and tested due to the numerous adverse effects of commercially available herbicides to the environment. Barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crusgalli) is an important weed species around the world, especially in paddy rice fields. This study focuses on the favorable effects of mixing pyroligneous acids with commercial liquid herbicides. Seedlings were transplanted and grown under greenhouse conditions. The effect of treatment time or leaf-stage on herbicide-pyroligneous acid efficacies was checked, coupled with isolation and quantification of biochemical compounds. Results revealed that herbicide treatment at early post emergence (2~3 leaf stage) of Echnochloa crus-galli leads to effective control. Both liquid herbicides affected fatty acid, protein, and amino acid syntheses as reflected on their contents. The influence of wood vinegar (WV) or rice vinegar (RV) on these compounds was not thoroughly verified due to lack of information on the pyroligneous products. We observed that mixing WV or RV with BCB (bentazone + cyhalof-butyl) gives more favorable results than BUC (butachlor + clomazone), mixed with WV or RV. The result would indicate the potential of mixing pyroligneous acid in reducing herbicide application rate.
In general, herbicides have been classified according to selectivity, mobility. time of application, methods of application, mode of action and chemical property and structure. However, there was no generally accepted classification system for practical use in the field. The primary processes affected by the majority of herbicides are the growth process through cell elongation and/or cell division, the photosynthetic process specifically the light reaction, the oxidative phosphorylation and the integrity of the membrane systems. The usual approach in the study of the mechanism by which herbicides kill or inhibit the growth of plants is to initially determine the morphological phototoxicity systems, The mechanism by which a herbicide kills a plant or suppresses its development is actually the resultant effect of primary and secondary(or side) effects. In most instances, the death of the plant is due to the secondary effects. To induce the desired response, a herbicide must be able to gain entry into the plants and once inside, to be transported within the plant to its site(s) of activity in concentrations great enough. Obstacles to the entry and movement of herbicides in plants are generally classified by leaf and soil obstacles, translocation obstacles and biochemical obstacles, and these obstacles are also strongly influenced by plant species and by environmental factors such as light, temperature, rainfall and relative humidity. And hence, in most instances, results obtained from laboratory or greenhous vary from those of field experiment. Author attempted to classify herbicides from the field experiment using the two-dimensional ordination analysis to obtain practical information for selecting effective herbicides or to choose effective herbicide combinations for increasing herbicidal efficacy or reducing the chemical cost. Based on this two-dimensional diagram, desired herbicides or combinations were selected and further investigated for the interaction effects whether these combinations are synergistic, additive or antagonistic. From the results, it was concluded that these new approach could possibly be give more comprehensive informations about effective use of herbicide than any other systems.
