  • This experiment was undertaken to screen the acaricidal effects of herb essential oils (pennyroyal, ylang ylang, citronella, lemon grass, tea tree, and rosemary) at different doses (0.1, 0.05, 0.025, 0.0125, and $0.00625{\mu}l/cm2$) and exposure times (5, 10, 20, 20, 30 and 60 min) on house dust mites Dermatophgoides farinae and D. pteronyssinus. The most effective acaricidal components of pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) were analyzed using a gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC-MS). Of these essential oils, the most effective was pennyroyal, which is composed essentially of pulegone (> 99%), at a dose of $0.025{\mu}l/cm^2$, which at an exposure time of 5 min killed more than 98% of house dust mites. In the pennyroyal fumigation test, the closed method was more effective than the open method and maximum acaricidal effect was 100% at $0.025{\mu}l/cm^2$, 60 min. The results show that herb essential oils, in particular, pennyroyal was proved to have potent acaricidal activity.

Severity of dyspepsia was measured by Nepean Dyspepsia Index (NDI) and Functional Dyspepsia Quality of Life (FD-QOL) before and after treatments. Results: 1. In the DA-9701 group, total key symptoms score was significantly lower and improve rate of key symptoms was higher than in the mosapride and placebo groups, but there were no statistically significant differences between three groups. 2. In the DA-9701 and mosapride groups, "nausea" and "bad breath" were significantly lower compared with the placebo group. 3. In the DA-9701 group, NDI Quality of Life scores were significantly higher, but there were no [other] statistically significant differences between the three groups. 4. In the DA-9701 and mosapride groups, FD-QOL scores were higher compared with the placebo group, but there were no statistically significant differences between the three groups. • Glycyrrhizae Radix is an herbal medicine vulnerable to fungi. So there are regulations on mycotoxins. Therefore, in this study, the affect of various drying methods and additional gamma irradiation (10 kGy) was studied to suppress the microbial generation of Glycyrrhizae Radix. As a result of detecting and comparing microorganisms using the dry film method for samples prepared by each of natural, hot air, freezing, microwave drying and gamma irradiation, the affect of reducing microorganisms by microwave drying and gamma irradiation was confirmed. There was no statistically significant change in the content of the active compounds between the treatment groups.

  • Objectives : The rapid progress seen in the Chinese medical and pharmaceutical industries since the mid.Ming Dynasty, and the resulting surge in demand for medicinal herbs led to the emergence of dedicated medicinal herb markets. A representative example was the medicinal herb market of Qizhou (today's Anguo) in Hebei Province. This paper examines various factors that contributed to the transformation and growth of Qizhou into and as a major medicinal herb market of China. Methods : Along with the examination of geographical factors, this study attempts to link the development of Qizhou as a center for medicinal herbs trade with legends related to the Medicine Lord Temple (Yao Wang Miao), a local shrine dedicated to the mythical Medicine Kings. Results : The main argument of this study is that although the emergence of Qizhou as China's largest marketplace for medicinal herbs was significantly helped by its proximity to Beijing, a huge source of demand, as well as its convenient location easily accessible from all parts of the country, and the large herbal production from surrounding areas, the single.most important contributing factor was the body of legends attributing to this city a magical healing energy. Conclusions : The example of Qizhou may also suggest that in pre.modern eras, legends related to supernatural healing power, associated to a city or town, were as important contributing factors to its emergence and growth as a dedicated medicinal herb market as its location or ease of access.
