  • Unlike synthetic dyes, natural dyes do not affect the human body or create atmosphere pollution that are also mothproof, antibiotic and sterilized. This study examined the changes in dye adsorption properties according to mordant types and mordanting method to qualify trends using sage and rosemary extracts. Dyeability of sage extract is often similar to rosemary extract regardless of dyeing conditions. Dyeing properties of herb colorants on cotton, silk and wool fiber and effect of dyeing conditions on dye uptake were also compared. Dyed fabric showed a yellowish color and the dyeing affinity was somewhat good with rosemary extract. The surface color of the dyed fabrics was darkened by mordant treatment. The K/S value of herb colorants of protein fiber was higher than cellulose fiber. The concentration of mordant having the highest dyeing affinity was different from the mordant type. Regardless of the type of fiber, the K/S value of premordanting was the highest in mordanting method, and the K/S value of simultaneous mordanting indicated no noticeable mordant effect. The fastness of washing of silk fabric was reduced the most by mordant treatment. The lightfastness was reduced in Al mordant treatment regardless of the type of fiber. The lightfastness of wool increased somewhat by mordant treatment.

As a result, I have come to develope korean-type health model, which can solve the problems derived from the past herb medicine industry. The prospects and roles of the oriental health related industries are as follows: The phase adjustment of the oriental health related industry. The problems of modern medical science happens in the beginning of 21st century, the importance of oriental health improvement in the field of health business is now being on the rise. therefore it is necessary to readjust the present status of the oriental medicine and to take it into health area. Should the responsible institutes regarded on oriental medicine make clear prescription in terms of oriental health industry's role and limitation, they could contribute health circumstance in the 21st century. This is because oriental health related industry can be utiliged in not only protective area and curable area. The present situation of the oriental health related industry. These herb medical societies are flooded with various oriental health industry apart from the legal systematic control so far health industry apart from the legal systematic control so far. The expected survey can not be complete but random under these situations. Nevertheless oriental medical health industry area such as a diet cure, exercise treatment and living condition cure are being considerably expanded, especially living facilities improvement and mind control areas are toward worldwide. Consquently herb health industries are now? consistantly developed by the influence of western nature treatment stemmed from the oriental medicine theory. The role and prospect of the oriental health related industry in 21st century. The oriental health industries can be helpful for the human being's health improvement in general but by the lack of scholastic oriental health theory, it does not contribute to the health welfare. If these problems are made up for in the field of theory area, the oriental health related industry will surely have the potentiallity and know how for health welfare. The successive role of these industry is depended on the fact that the characteristics of the oriental medicine should adjust to the real society with the systematic management. In the 21C, oriental health industry will certainly be vitalized owing to the social and periodical request especially in the area of oriental medical industry, oriental health drink industry, oriental health mind exercise industry, oriental health leasure industry and oriental health complex management industry. Among these areas, it is the oriental health complex amagement industry that will be the limestone of prosperity of the oriental health industry in 21C. • Lespedeza cuneata G. Don is a traditional herb that has been associated with multiple biological activities. In this study, we investigated the antioxidative/antiaging activities and performed an active component analysis of the non-fermented and fermented (using Lactobacillus pentosus) extracts of Lespedeza cuneata G. Don. The antioxidative activities of the fermented extract were higher than those of non-fermented extracts. The elastase inhibitory activity, inhibitory effects on UV-induced MMP-1 expression, and ability to promote type I procollagen synthesis were investigated in Hs68 human fibroblasts cells. These tests also revealed that the fermented extract had increased antiaging activities compared with the non-fermented extract. A component analysis of the ethyl acetate fractions of non-fermented and fermented extracts was performed using TLC, HPLC, and LC/ESI-MS/MS to observe changes in the components before and after fermentation. Six components that were different before and after fermentation were investigated. It was thought that kaempferol and quercetin were converted from kaempferol glucosides and quercetin glucosides, respectively, via bioconversion with the fermentation strain. These results indicate that the fermented extract of L. cuneata G. Don has potential for use as a natural cosmetic material with antioxidative and antiaging effects.

  • This study aims to find a discriminatory way that can lower the dependence on imports of aroma essential oils and increase the value of herb plants that are growing in domestic demand and cultivation. To this end, through a study that analyzes and reproduces fragrance components without damaging the original material of domestically grown lavender flowers using the SPME method, we are trying to confirm the difference in fragrance composition from lavender essential oil and find the fragrance originality of domestically grown herb plants. A total of 38 kinds of lavender essential oils and 27 kinds of lavender flowers were analyzed as fragrance ingredients, Among them, the common ingredients were myrcene, d-limonene, 1,8-cineol, ocimene, p-cymene, α-terpinolene, camphor, linalool, linalyl acetate, bornyl acetate, 4-terpineol, and a-terpineol. In addition, among the fragrance components of the two samples, it was confirmed that the type and content of allergens of domestically cultivated lanvender flowers were low. As a result of the sensuality evaluation of 15 panels, domestic cultivated lavender flower reproduction scent was higher in favor of lavender essential oil, which has been used in the industry until now. It is also believed that lavender fragrance, which lowers the content of allergy-causing ingredients, can expand industrialization.

  • This study was conducted to suggest vegetation mat forming methods with native wildflowers, introduced wild flower, grasses and native herb plants which can be used for erosion control of the disturbed slopes. The main results are summarized as follows. In forming the vegetation mat at early stage, foreign grasses, native wild plants shows more effective than the other seed mixture types. But, after 12 weeks, using native wild flowers shows more effective than foreign grasses. Also, the mixture of the native grasses and kentucky bluegrasses (seed mixture type F) are the best in ground coverage among the seed mixtures types. In order to restore slopes more naturally, more diverse plants should be used. The native grasses such as Marrubium incisum Bentham, Lutos comiculatus L. var. japonicus Regel, and Artemisia princeps Pampan seems to be useful to forming the vegetation mat, also it will be more easy if mixing with foreign grasses such as Kentucky bluegrass. The mixture of native grasses and introduced wild flowers are not proper in forming the vegetation mat. Also, pot planting of the native grasses are not proper in forming the vegetation mat.

  • Obesity is a major risk factor for various metabolic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In this study, we prepared ethanol extracts from Agastache rugosa (ARE), Chrysanthemum zawadskii (CZE), Mentha arvensis (MAE), Perilla frutescens (PFE), Leonurus sibiricus (LSE), Gardenia jasminoides (GJE), and Lycopus coreanus (LCE). The anti-oxidant and anti-adipogenic effects were evaluated. The $IC_{50}$ values for ascorbic acid and LCE against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radicals were $246.2{\mu}g/mL$ and $166.2{\mu}g/mL$, respectively, followed by ARE ($186.6{\mu}g/mL$), CZE ($198.6{\mu}g/mL$), MAE ($337.1{\mu}g/mL$), PFE ($415.3{\mu}g/mL$), LSE ($548.2{\mu}g/mL$), and GJE ($626.3{\mu}g/mL$). In non-toxic concentration ranges, CZE had a strong inhibitory effect against 3T3-L1 adipogenes (84.5%) than those of the other extracts. Furthermore, the anti-adipogenic effect of CZE is largely limited in the early stage of adipogenesis, and we revealed that the inhibitory role of CZE in adipogenesis is required for the activation of Wnt signaling. Our results provide scientific evidence that the anti-adipogenic effect of CZE can be applied as an ingredient for the development of functional foods and nutri-cosmetics for obesity prevention.

  • Disease depends on the three factors, agent, host and environment. According to history of disease, by early 1900s the case of deaths is infectious disease, in late 1900s care of infectious diseases and tremendous scale of chronic disease, i.e., heart disease, diabetes, cancers and etc, makes care of chronic diseases be a most important theme. Now, life-style of diet is being westernized and in high industry-oriented society, obesity makes attack fate remarkably increase and life-expectancy become short, so that it causes severe problem of health. Chronic disease, such as obesity, is not affected by specific agent, but depends of interaction between host and environmental factors. There is the theory of constitutional medicine in Korean Medicine. According to it, all the people have constitutional specificity and disease. Because obesity is a kind of disease, there is the corresponding constituent being apt to be fat. Oriental Medicine utilizes herb-medication, acupuncture, and massage-therapy in treating obesity. Therefore study on relationship between constituent and obesity for OPD patients of Sangji-Oriental Medicine Hospital is carried out. The results are summarized as followings. 1. 70.2% of obesity patients are Taeumin(太陰人), 26.9% of those are Soyangin(少陽人), 2.9% of thoese are Soeumin(少陰人). 2. Most cases, high value of Free Fat Acid and Triglyceride not that of Total Cholesterol and Low Density Lipoprptein is meaningful in obesity patient blood. The corelationship between lipid test and Constitution is meaningful in Triglyceride and Free Fatty Acid. 3. Obesity is not related with gene. 4. Obesity is not related with Boyak(Herb-Med : 補藥). 5. Obesity mostly happens after delivery, contraception and operation. 6. Obese Patients are apt to eat between meals, especially food of wheat flour such as a snack. 7. The aim of treating obesity is not persuit of beauty but of keeping healthy. 8. 2.2Kg of body weight is lost after 4 week-treatment. 9. Common cause of obesity is overeating of carbohydrate and lipid than meat.

  • Cordyceps is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb well-known in China, Korea and Japan since B.C. 2,000. The original entomopathogenic fungus, Cordyceps sinensis belonging to the genus Cordyceps could not be found inside Korean peninsula due to the absence of the host insect for the corresponding entomogenous fungus. The development of artificial production methods of Korean type Cordyceps using the silkworm Bombyx mori as in vivo culture medium for the the entomopathogenic fungus Paecilomyces tenuipes is the first, and wonderful occasion in the research history of insect industry of this global world. The aim of this article is to review the historical research background, mass-production methods, and pharmacological effects of the silkworm-dongchunghacho (Paecilomyces tenuipes) which is a newly developed Korean medicinal insect-borne mushroom, and another non-insect-borne medicinal mushroom (Cordyceps militaris and Cordyceps pruinosa). Their biological actions include anti-tumor, immunostimulating, anti-fatigue, anti-stress, anti-oxidant, anti-aging, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombosis, hypolipidaemic and insecticidal effects. The bioactive principles are protein-bound polysaccharides (hexose, hexosamin), cordycepin, D-manitol, acidic polysaccharide etc. Protein-bound polysaccharides and n-butanol fractions were demonstrated to show a significant anti-tumor activities but did not show a cytotoxicities. D-mannitol exhibited a significant prolongation of the life span in tumor bearing mice. Ergosterol did not show an efficient anti-tumor activity, but showed a significant phagocytosis enhancing activity. Anti-tumor activity of silkworm-dongchunghacho might be attributed to immuno-stimulating activities rather than cytotoxic effects [164]. Also this review comprises the breeding of Dongchunghacho varieties, optimization of culture conditions, improvement of learning and memory by Dongchunghacho, application of them as foods and chemical constituents.
