A Study of Reflectance Variations of Solar Concentrators (태양열 집광판의 반사율 변화 연구)

  • Understanding of reflectance of solar concentrators is important for assessing concentration performance. However inaccurate data about refractive indices of constituent materials and dust accumulation on the surface often prevent figuring out reflectance variations. The current study proposes an approach calculating concentrator reflectance based on the refractive index of glass obtained from reflectance and transmittance measurements. This approach improved accuracy of solar-averaged reflectance from 2.9% to 0.4% compared to the use of existing reference data. Reflectance variations with incidence angles are negligible up to $60^{\circ}C$ at various glass thicknesses. When concentrators are contaminated with dust during 2 months specular reflectance loss of vertically exposed concentrators is less than 7%. However for horizontally exposed concentrators the loss significantly increases up to 40% while dependence of reflectance on incidence angles becomes strong. Measurements of hemispherical reflectance indicate that 80 percentage of the loss comes from scattering rather than absorption by dust. Data of refractive index and reflectance provided in the current study will help estimate or model the concentrated solar flux.

Retrieval Spectral Albedo using red and NIR band of SPOT/VGT

  • Albedo is one of the critical parameters for understanding global climate change and energy/water balance. In this study, we used red and NIR reflectance from Satellite Pour I'Obervation de la Terre (SPOT)/Vegetation (VGT) S1 product. The product is preprocessed for users that they are atmospherically corrected using Simple Method Atmospheric Correction (SMAC) by Vision on Technology (VITO) for calculating broadband albedo. Roujean's Bi-directional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) model is a semi-empirical method used for BRDF angular integration and inversion. Each kernel of Roujean's model was multi integrated by angle components (i.e., viewing zenith, solar zenith, and relative azimuth angle). Black-sky hemispherical function is integrated by observational angle; whereas, white-sky hemispherical efficient is integrated by incident angle. Estimated spectral albedo of red ($0.61{\sim}0.68{\mu}m$, B2) and near infrared ($0.79{\sim}0.89{\mu}m$, B3) have a good agreement with MODIS albedo products.

  • A spectral measurement system for reflection and transmission properties by using an optical fiber and an ellipsoidal mirror was newly developed. The hemispherical reflectance and transmittance spectra of several heating resisting ceramics materials were measured from visible to middle infrared region. The directional characteristics of reflection and transmission were also investigated in consideration of the absorptance. The measured data were analyzed by using a four flux model of radiation transfer, The radiation properties could be estimated by the obtained scattering and absorption coefficient spectra.

  • A General equation is developed for the efficiency of an integrating sphere with a nonuniform coating. The only assumptions are that the interior is a perfect sphere and that all areas reflect perfectly diffusely. The general equation are examined for the basic applications of integrating spheres as mixing mechanisms in hemispherical reflectance measurements and in absolute reflectance techniques.

  • Innovative daylighting systems in buildings in various climatic zones around the world have been developed under the IEA SHC Task21. The performance assessment were obtained by monitoring the most systems using full-scale test model rooms or actual buildings under real sky conditions. This study aims to analyze the configuration and monitoring system of the nine Mock-up models of the IEA SHC Task21 comparatively. For the purpose, the geometry of the test rooms (length, width, height, window area, glazed area and occupied), reflectance of walls, floor and ceiling, transmittance of glazing (transmittance for hemispherical irradiation, normal irradiation and U-value) were compared. And equipment for measurement (manufacturer, range, calibration, maximum calibration error, cosine response error, fatigue error), and data acquisition system (manufacturer, type, number of differential analogue input channels, A/D converter resolution in bits, data acquisition software) were also analyzed comparatively. Some findings of these experimental methodology of standard monitoring have been proven to be a valuable one for future assessment of advanced daylighting systems in our country.

A Study on a High Speed Computational Scheme for the Reflected IR Signal Component by Considering the BRDF (BRDF를 고려한 적외선 신호의 반사 성분 고속 연산기법에 관한 연구)

  • This paper is a part of developing a computer code that can be used to generate synthetic IR images by calculating the outgoing infrared signal from objects. To predict the reflected component that is a part of the outgoing IR signal, such as those components reflected from the target surface by the solar and sky irradiations, it is necessary to calculate the complicated BRDF values for considering the directional surface reflection characteristics. Since the calculation of reflectance using the BRDF requires a large amount of computation time due to the hemispherical integral term, it is frequently restricted in applying for a real-time prediction of IR signal. In this research, the simplified method for calculating IR reflected component has been proposed by replacing the integral terms into two parts, a directionally uniform component and a step function representing the specular component, to reduce computation time. The proposed method is proved to result in very fast calculation of the BRDF (up to 600 times faster calculations) for most of the surfaces with minimal loss of the accuracy.
