A sand-cone method is commonly used to determine the density of the compacted soils. This method uses a calibration container to determine the bulk-density of the sand for use in the test. The density of the test or compacted soil is computed on the assumption that the calibration container has approximately the same size or volume and allows the sand to fall approximately the same height as a test hole in the field. However, in most cases the size or shape of test hole is not exactly the same as the calibration container. There is certain discrepancy between sand particle settlement or arrangement in the laboratory calibration and in the field testing, which may cause an erroneous determination of in-situ density. The sand filling process is simulated in the laboratory and its effect on the determination of density is investigated. Artificially-made holes with different heights and bottom shapes are prepared to simulate various shapes of the test hole in the field. The sands with different gradations are used in the testing to examine how sand grain size influences the determination of density in the field.
The physical status (standing height, body weight, chest girth, sitting height, length of leg, length of thigh, thigh girth, length of crus, length of arm, brachial length, antebrachial girth and skinfold thickness) of 360 healthy middle and high school boys aged between 12 and 17 years in Taegu area was measured and evaluated by means of dispersion. For regression equation and coefficient ofidetermination of each status against standing height were computed. The growth progress of physical status had a tendency to be exponential and, generally, between 13 and 14 years of age the fastest progress was observed. The regression coefficient of body weight against standing height (0.90) was largest and that of skinfold thickness against standing height (0.09) was smallest. In general, the dimension of the regression coefficient was accordant with the dimension of respective physical status. Except in length of thigh and skinfold thickness, coefficient of determination of each physical status against standing height was almost 1 and the regression line could express the relation between standing height and each physical status very satisfactorily. But the regression curve was more desirable for the elucidation of the relation between standing height and skinfold thickness.
Background: Sexual dimorphism is important for sex determination in the field of forensics. However, sexual dimorphism is commonly assessed using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) rather than three-dimensional (3D) modeling software; therefore, studies using a more accurate measurement approach are necessary. This study assessed the sexual dimorphism of the MS using a 3D modeling program to obtain information that could contribute to the fields of surgery and forensics. Methods: The CBCT data of 60 patients (age, 20~29 y; 30 males and 30 females) admitted to the Department of Orthodontics at the Dankook University School of Dentistry were provided in Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format. The left MS and right MS were modeled based on the DICOM files using the Mimics (version 22; Materialise, Leuven, Belgium) 3D program and converted to stereolithography (STL) files used to measure the width, length, and height of the MS, infraorbital foramen (IOF), right MS, and left MS. The average of three repeated measurements was calculated, and a reliability test was performed to ensure data reliability (Cronbach's α=0.618). A canonical discriminant analysis was performed using a standard approach (left: Box's M=0.096; right: Box's M=0.115). Results: Males had greater values for all parameters (MS width, MS length, MS height, IOF, right MS, left MS) than females. The discriminant analysis identified six independent variables (MS width, MS height, MS length, IOF, right MS, left MS) that could identify sex. The left MS and right MS correctly identified the sex of 81.7% and 71.7% of the patients, respectively, with the left MS having higher accuracy. Conclusion: This study confirmed that, for Korean individuals, the left MS has a better ability to identify sex than the right MS. These results may contribute to sex identification in the fields of surgery and forensics.

Global change and local fluctuation of earth's gravity field play important roles in accurate vertical positioning as well as in accurate horizontal positioning. Regarding the impotance, in this study, the concept of gravity potential theory connected with the influence of gravity field and every kind of height were discussed. Various kind of heights using the observed gravity and leveling data were computed and analysed to study the influence of earth's gravity field in accurate vertical positioning. Taking the route from Busan to Kyongju and investigating the ratios ($\Delta$H/dH) of height defferences (dH) between calculated heights considering gravity field and leveling height to relative heights (dH) between adjacent stations, we get the result that the values by correction formula increase linearly according to latitude, and the values by gravity potential ere strongly influenced by pseudo topography.

The objectives of this study are to investigate the variation of the sleeve form by changing arm movements and to study the relationship among the three aspects of sleeve (sleeve height, width and armhole girth) by changing arm movements. Plasrun gyps were used for this experimental research. The subjects of this study were elementary schoolgirls (9$\~$12 years old). Arm mevements were 4 types($0^{\circ},\;45^{\circ},\;90^{\circ},\;135^{\circ}$) to the vertical directions. The statistical methods used to analyze the data included mean, standard deviation, the Pearson's correlation coefficients and coefficients of determination. The results obtained from this study were as follows; 1. According to the arm movements, the sleeve form changed more in the front than in the back. 2. As the arm movements were increased vertically, the heights of sleeves and the girths of the armholes were decreased, and the widths of sleeves were increased. 3. Variation rates by changing arm movements were different according to the variation of arm movement, and were the highest in sleeve height. 4. There was a negative correlation between sleeve height and width, and a positive correlation between sleeve height and armhole girth.

A vertical datum requires an origin, which is a point on the Earth's surface where the height of the point is a defined value(26.6871m). From this origin point, heights (height differences) can be measured to any other point using standard leveling and gravity measurement procedures. However, the leveling network over the Korea bas been established by using the normal gravity instead of the actual gravity values, and the heights for the points are published by National Geographic Information Institute (NGII). This may cause height for especially in the area where high-relief mountains are dominant. Therefore, the height errors caused by using normal gravity instead of actual gravity values are analyzed in this study. Then, the differences between the orthometric heights and the published heights, i.e., normal orthometric height are analyzed.
The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) for the estimation of tree height is gaining recognition. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of tree height estimation of Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc. and Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et Zucc. using digital surface model (DSM) generated from UAV-acquired imageries. Images were taken with the $Trimble^{(R)}$ UX5 equipped with Sony ${\alpha}5100$. The generated DSM, together with the digital elevation model (DEM) generated from a digital map of the study areas, were used in the estimation of tree height. Field measurements were conducted in order to generate a regression model and carry out accuracy assessment. The obtained coefficients of determination (R2) and root mean square error (RMSE) for P. densiflora (R2=0.71; RMSE=1.00 m) and P. koraiensis (R2=0.64; RMSE=0.85 m) are comparable to the results of similar studies. The results of the paired two-tailed t-test show that the two tree height estimation methods are not significantly different (p-value=0.04 and 0.10, alpha level=0.01), which means that tree height estimation using UAV imagery could be used as an alternative to field measurement.
The purpose of this study is to determine the precise height in mountainous areas of South Korea and Jiri mountain area was selected as a test bed for the study. Gravity observation and GNSS surveying were performed for 44 BM(Benchmark) points in the test bed and calculate the height and the height correction. In the calculation, the dynamic correction amount, the orthometric correction amount and the normal correction amount were calculated, and the dynamic height and orthometric height and the normal height were calculated considering each correction amount. The results showed that the difference between normal gravity and observed gravity and also the difference between orthometric correction and the normal correction. In addition, the results of the comparison of the present official BM height and the computed orthometric height in this study show that Korean height system should be shifted from the normal orthometric height system to the orthometric height system. Because the difference between the orthometric correction and the normal correction within the test bed indicated a distribution of at a minimum of -234.41 mm up to 196.925 mm, and the difference between the present official BM height and the calculated orthometric height were distributed from -0.121m to 0.011 m.
In order to analyze the succession process from a pine forest to an oak forest, the tree growth of Pinus densiflora and Quercus mongolica ssp. crispula was monitored in a permanent quadrat for 23 years. The measurements were carried out for the stem diameter (DBH) of Pinus densiflora between 1977 and 1999 and for the height of Quercus mongolica ssp. crispula saplings between 1998 and 2000. The floristic composition and the locations of the individual P. densiflora and Q. mongolica ssp. crispula trees and saplings in the quadrat were recorded. P densiflora and Q. mongolica ssp. crispula individuals were randomly distributed within the quadrat. The relative growth rates (RGR) of DBH in P. densiflora were 0.085 $yr^{-1}$ for large trees and 0.056 $yr^{-1}$ for small trees in 1977. The RGR of height for Q. mongolica ssp. crispula was 0.122 $yr^{-1}$. The growth curve for DBH of P. densiflora was approximated by the logistic equation: $$DBH(t) = 30 {[1+1.16exp(-0.13 t)]}^{-1}$$ where DBH (t) the DBH (cm) in year t and t is the number of years since 1977. The growth in height of P. densiflora and Q. mongolica ssp. crispula was described by following equations: $$H (t) = 20.2 {[1+0.407exp(-0.137 t)]}^{-1} (P. densiflora)$$$$H (t) = 30 {[1+20.7exp(-0.122 t)}^{-1} (Q. mongolica ssp. crispula)$$ Where H (t) is the tree height (m) in year t and t is the number of years since 1977 in P. densiflora and 1998 in Q. mongolica ssp. crispula. With these equations we predicted that the height of Q. mongolica ssp. crispula increases from 2 m in 1999 to 20 m in 2029. Therefore, Q. mongolica ssp. crispula and P. densiflora will be approximately the same height in 2029. The years required for succession from a pine forest to an oak forest are expected 33 with the range between 23 and 44 years.
In this study, the effect of liquid height/volume on sonochemical oxidation reactions was investigated in 300 kHz sonoreactors. The gas mixture of Ar/O2 (50:50) was applied in two modes including saturation and sparging, and zero-order reaction (KI dosimetry) and first-order reaction (Bisphenol A (BPA) degradation) were used to quantitatively analyze sonochemical oxidation reactions. For the zero-order reaction, the highest sonochemical oxidation activity was obtained for the liquid height of 5𝛌, and the lowest height for both the gas saturation and sparging conditions. In addition, the sparging did not enhance the sonochemical oxidation activity for all height conditions except for 50𝛌, where very low activity was obtained. It was found that in sonochemiluminescence (SCL) images the sonochemical active zone was formed adjacent to the liquid surface for the gas sparging condition due to the formation of the standing wave field while the active zone was formed adjacent to the transducer at the bottom due to the blockage of ultrasound. For the first-order reaction, the highest activity was also obtained at 5𝛌 and the comparison based on the reactant mass was not appropriate because the concentration of the reactant (BPA) decreased significantly as the reaction time elapsed. Consequently, it was revealed that the determination of optimal liquid height (ultrasound irradiation distance) based on the wavelength of the applied ultrasound frequency was very important for the optimal design of sonoreactors in terms of reaction efficiency and reactor size.
