  • By the needs for design, the leading construction equipment manufacturers have performed the product design newly setting up the design teams of late, but the actual level of designing is just as much as copying without systematic process, Therefore the various studies are needed to set up the differentiated design method targeted only for construction equipment and solving the current problems. In this paper, 1 am going to suggest a basic material as well as a cornerstone predicting future design trend in the construction equipment design field through the study of design transition.

  • The use of packaged skid in oil and gas plant has increased dramatically over the decades, replacing loose supply equipment. Most equipment is installed on structural skid in manufacturer's shop. As Oil and Gas Plants are constructed at inaccessible area, the demands of packaged skids are increased. The packaged skid have advantages comparing to loose supply equipment in inaccessible area. The packaged skid is small complex plant consists of process, mechanical, piping, instrument, electrical and structural steel. This paper examines advantages and problems of packaged skid, based on previous experience. EPC company consider key factors such as manufacturing period, construction periods, equipment quality and costs.

  • In order to simplify the wiring of construction heavy equipment, researches on PLC(Power Line Communication)-CAN(Controller Area Network) communication module are actively proceeding. Even if a PLC-CAN communication module is developed, a simulator capable of judging whether the PLC-CAN communication module is operating normally is needed. In this paper, we designed and developed a simulator that can measure the status of PLC-CAN communication module. We analyzed the characteristics of the power line communication frequency band by analyzing the characteristics of the power line and compared the noise characteristics with the passenger car in order to characterize the heavy equipment noise.

  • Generally, in jack up rig design for harsh environment, its leg height is a major factor for achieving a sufficient serviceability & operability in terms of the worst environment and the workable depth. Due to difficulties in constructing such a high-slender leg, inaccessibility of yard fabrication equipment, etc. the construction of Jack up rig fur harsh deep sea has not been common. Method using heavy crawler crane, fabrication tower or extension by the floating crane vessel is still conventional construction but, considering high cost fur mobilizing heavy lift vessel (HLV) or additional marine work for implementing preload / full height test at sea, the ground-base construction is much advantageous. Air skidding method (ASM hereafter) is ground-based construction methodology, newly developed due to such requests. ASM could also be extended to similar engineering fields. This paper presents the operating sequence, design parameters and procedure which were verified through successful operation at the end of May 2002.

  • Membrane process has been applied widely to petroleum chemistry, fine chemistry, polymer, electronics, food, bioprocessing, and wastewater treatment process. Membrane process has advantage that there's no phase change through separation, energy consumption is smaller than other separation processes. And equipment investment and operation cost are inxpensive too. We prepared the silicone rubber membrane and then separated the heavy metal ion from wastewater. Silicone rubber membrane was prepared using a superitical fluid process and heavy metal ions were separated from the chromium nitrate, ferric sulfate, cupric sulfate, nickel sulfate aqueous solution. The pressure difference between top and bottom of separation apparatus was preserved by vacuum pump, and the removal amount of heavy metal at each separation step were analyzed by instrumental analysis, AAS. The surface and pore of silicone rubber membrane was investigated using SEM, and the capability of wastewater treatment using a silicone rubber membrane was proposed as calculated removal rate of heavy metal after comparing removal amount of heavy metal to amount of heavy metal in mother solution by AAS analysis.

  • For designing working devices of construction equipment, it is necessary to consider not only sufficient working ability but also available working range. Therefore, it is important to select the appropriate pivot positions of links. This paper presents a study on selection of pivot points of links used in construction equipment. To analyze the effect of each pivot point, a design program for pivot selection is developed. A conventional pivot design method requires a complicated process because it needs to create a certain working position manually to evaluate its performance. However, the developed program includes an automatic link assembly algorithm; thus, the working device can easily be analyzed by using pivot information of links. The developed program also included a kinematic/static analysis module and characteristic analysis algorithms. Therefore, it is possible to easily analyze a working device model created through the automatic assembly algorithm, whereby users can easily analyze the effect of each link pivot point for the actual product design.

  • The existing portable reference equipment for ITS systems performance evaluation has several limitations. First, it is difficult to set up and operate the equipment in the road section with the shoulder width equal to or smaller than 1.5m. Secondly, the crash with a car could lead to severe accident since it is big and heavy. Lastly, it cannot collect data from multiple lanes at a time. In this research the characteristics of the USN-based portable reference equipment developed to overcome shortcomings of the existing portable reference equipment were analyzed qualitatively and its performance level was evaluated through the field test. Consequently, the USN-based portable reference equipment turned out to overcome the operational shortcomings and satisfy the performance level required for the portable reference equipment.
