Analysis of Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of Billet and Extrudate according to Heat Treatment for the Extrusion of 7075 alloy (7075 합금의 압출에서 원소재 빌렛과 압출재의 열처리에 따른 미세조직 및 기계적 특성 분석)

  • Heating experiments using the 7075 aluminum alloy in the state of billet and extrudate have been performed to investigate the pertinent ranges of working temperatures and holding times for the application to the various automobile parts. The 7075 specimens from raw billet of 152 mm in diameter and 400 mm in length prior to extrusion were used for heating with a holding time of 10 minutes at temperatures between 380℃ and 550℃. Then, an extrusion process using the billet has been fulfilled at 380℃ with extrusion speed of 0.8 mm/min to get an plate-type extrudate of 75 mm in width and 4.2 mm in thickness. The samples from the extrudate were subjected to heating experiments at temperatures between 380℃ and 440℃ with holding times such as 10 min, 30 min, 60 min and 120 min at each heating temperature. The microstructures were investigated on the optical and EBSD micrographs. The hardness measurement and the tensile test have been performed to investigate the effect of the heat treatment on the mechanical property. The results showed for the 7075 extrusion process that the safe heating of billet can be performed below 450℃ and the extrusion can be done safely up to 400℃.

Mechanical Properties of Friction Joint of AZ31Mg Alloy (AZ31마그네슘합금의 마찰접합특성)

  • Magnesium alloy has been known as lightweight material in automobile and electronic industry with aluminum alloy, titanium alloy and plastic material. Friction welding is useful to join various metals and nonferrous metals that are difficult to join by such as gas welding, resistance welding and electronic beam welding. In this study, friction joining was performed to investigate mechanical properties of Mg alloy with 20mm diameter solid bar. Also the optimal joining conditions for its application were determined on the basis of tensile test, and hardness survey. The joining parameters were chosen as heating pressure, heating time, upsetting pressure, and upsetting time. Heating and upsetting pressure were executed under the range of 10~40MPa and 20~80MPa, respectively. From the experimental results, optimal joining conditions were determined as follows; rotating speed=2000rpm, heating pressure=35MPa, upsetting pressure=70MPa, heating time=1sec, upsetting time=5sec. Also the hardness of jointed boundary showed as HV50 which was similar to that of base metal at the optimal condition, and it was supposed that zone of HAZ was 8mm. Finally two materials were strongly mixed at interface part to show a well-combined microstructure without particle growth or any defect.

Daily Heating Performance of a Ground Source Multi-heat Pump at Heating Mode (지열원 물대공기 멀티 히트펌프의 일일 난방 운전 특성에 관한 실증 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the daily heating performance of ground source multi-heat pump system with vertical single U-tube type GLHXs, which were installed in a school building located in Cheonan. Daily average COP of heat pump unit on Jan. 12th, 2009 at heating mode was lower than it on Nov. 10th, 2008 and Dec. 15th, 2008, because of lower EWT of the outdoor heat exchanger and relatively smaller size of condenser and evaporator. But, the system COP on the former was higher than it on the latter because ground loop circulating pump was operated in rated speed. It is suggested that the new algorithms to control the flow rate of secondary fluid for GLHX according to load change have to be developed in order to enhance the performance of the system COP.

Efficient Prediction of Aerodynamic Heating of a High Speed Aircraft for IR Signature Analysis (적외선 신호 분석을 위한 고속 항공기의 공력가열에 관한 효율적 예측)

  • The ability to calculate aerodynamic heating and surface temperature is essential to ensure proper design of aircraft components in high speed flight. In this study, various empirical formulas for efficiently calculating aerodynamic heating of aircraft were first analyzed. A simple computational code based on empirical formulas was developed and then compared with commercial codes; ANSYS FLUENT based on the Navier-Stokes-Fourier equation, and ThermoAnalytics MUSES based on an empirical formula. The code was found to agree well with the results of FLUENT in the wall and stagnation point temperatures. It also showed excellent agreement with MUSES, within 1% and 5% in temperature and heat flux, respectively.

  • Slip form method is applied to many cases of a shaft these days because it is safer, more economical and faster than cast-in-place method. Slip-up height of the method is approximately 2.5 to 4.0 m/day. If the temperature of concrete is outside the range of 10 to 30℃, the effects of changes in strength or elastic characteristics are significant. Therefore, it is difficult for slip-up speed to be higher than 3 m/day during winter construction. In addition, concrete has heat caused by hydration, which causes temperature cracking of hardened concrete. Therefore, temperature control of concrete curing is necessary for the continuous slip-up of slip form. In this study, the rebound hardness, time of ultrasonic waves propagation, heat of hydration, and external temperature are measured by developing heating panels and test devices for the continuous slip-up. Based on this, heating slip form is manufactured; this was applied to "Kimpo sites" and "Sinwol sites". The compared slip-up speed samples were 1.9 m/day or 0.200 m/hr on average at Gimpo sites (08:00~17:30) and 2.0 m/day or 0.210 m/hr at Sinwol sites.

  • Digital variable structure controller(DVSC) is implemented to control the temperature for the hot water heating circulating pump control system. For the DVSC, a control algorithm is suggested, which using a nonlinear sliding surface and a PID sliding surface outside and inside of steady state error boundary layer, respectively. Smith predictor algorithm is used for the compensation of long dead time. The DVSC of the suggested algorithm yields improved control performance compared with the one of existing algorithm. The system responses with the suggested DVSC shows good responses without overshoot and steady state error inspite of heating load change. By decreasing sampling time, dead time and rise time are increasing, and system output noise by flow dynamics is amplified.

A study on welding structure and thermal behavior in friction welding of austenitic stainless steel (오스테나이트계 스테인레스강의 마찰압접시 압접조직과 열적거동에 관한 연구)

  • The transient temperature distribution in the continuous friction welding 304 stainless steel bars is investigated by experimental and analytical methods. It is calculated by F.D.M. (finite difference method). The heating pressure, the rotational speed and friction coefficient obtained from experiment are used to determine the heat input at the contacting surface. Thermal properties of the workpiece are the function of temperature. The calculated temperature is well coincided with the measured value. The grain size at weld interface is extremely small due to the severe plastic deformation at high temperature, and result of this refined zone reveals higher hardness value. Because the HAZ is very narror about 2-3 mm, welding defects do not occure.

  • This study presents a numerical model to analyze dynamic thermal behavior of a hot chuck designed for flip-chip bonders. The hot chuck of concern is a heater which has been specifically developed for accomplishing high-speed and ultra-precision soldering. The characteristic features are radiative heat source and the heating tool made of a material of high thermal diffusivity. A physical modeling has been conducted for the network of heat transport. A simplified finite volume model is deviced to simulate time-dependent thermal behavior of the heating tool on which soldering is achieved. The reliability of the proposed numerical model is verified experimentally. A series of numerical tests illustrate the usefulness of the numerical model in design analysis.

A Building Heating and Cooling Load Analysis of Super Tall Building considering the Vertical Micro-climate Change (초고층 오피스 건물의 수직외부환경 변화가 건물부하에 미치는 영향)

  • In these days numerous super tall buildings are under construction or being planned in Middle East and Asian countries. Some of them are planned as an ultra high-rise building that goes over 600m tall, including Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. External environment such as wind speed, temperature and humidity of the super tall building varies due to its vertical height. Therefore, it is necessary to consider these environmental changes to estimate building heating and cooling load. This paper analyzes how vertical microclimate difference affects building heating and cooling load in super tall building by simulation using radiosonde climate data. Besides, the correlation between air-tightness of building envelope and building load was analyzed for a super tall building.

Electrical Resistivity and NTC/PTC Transition Point of a Nitrogen-Doped SiC Igniter, and Their Correlation to Electrical Heating Properties

  • An M-shaped SiC gas igniter was fabricated by a reaction sintering followed by nitrogen doping. The igniter showed both resistivity at room temperature and NTC to PTC transition temperature values that were lower than those of commercial igniters. It was deduced that the doped nitrogen reduces the electrical resistivity at room temperature, while, at high temperature, the doped nitrogen and a trace of $Si_3N_4$ phase work as scattering centers against electron transfer, resulting in a lowered NTC-to-PTC transition point (below $650^{\circ}C$). Such characteristics were correlated to the fast heating speed (as compared to the commercial models) and to the prevention of the high temperature overshooting of the nitrogen-doped SiC igniter.
