The building envelope is important specially for saving energy consumption of residential buildings. but Apartment houses in Korea commonly have inside insulation system which have constantly arisen thermal bridges, the risk of heat loss, as a necessity. This study aims to evaluate integrated insulation performance according to the different shapes of external walls, adjacent to windows. The thermal performance analysis was carried out by Equivalent U-value and using the three-dimensional heat transfer computer simulation (TRISCO-RADCON), under nine different cases of comparing among three each of different bases(current standard model, 30percent energy saving model and 60percent energy saving model). The heating and the cooling load were also compared between two cases (standard U-value and Equivalent U-value) of three each of different bases, using the Building energy simulation which is based on DOE-2.1 analysis. As results, it turns out that if the Equivalent U-value is considered on the envelope analysis, the heat flow loss will be increasing more than the standard U-value, and if heat insulation property of the residential building reinforced rather than current, the rate of influences on the thermal bridges would be extremely expanded. In addition, it is shown that annual heating loads of the apartment house with applied Equivalent U-value substantially increased by more than 15 percent compared to those with the existing U-value, but annual cooling loads were negligibly affected.
To evaluate the performance of concrete load bearing walls in a structure under horizontal loads after being exposed to real fire, two steps were followed. In the first step, an experimental study was performed on the thermo-mechanical properties of concrete after heating to temperatures of 200-1000℃ with the purpose of determining the residual mechanical properties after cooling. The temperature was increased in line with natural fire curve in an electric furnace. The peak temperature was maintained for a period of 1.5 hour and then allowed to cool gradually in air at room temperature. All specimens were made from calcareous aggregate to be used for determining the residual properties: compressive strength, static and dynamic elasticity modulus by means of UPV test, including the mass loss. The concrete residual compressive strength and elastic modulus values were compared with those calculated from Eurocode and other analytical models from other studies, and were found to be satisfactory. In the second step, experimental analysis results were then implemented into structural numerical analysis to predict the post-fire load-bearing capacity response of the walls under vertical and horizontal loads. The parameters considered in this analysis were the effective height, the thickness of the wall, various support conditions and the residual strength of concrete. The results indicate that fire damage does not significantly affect the lateral capacity and stiffness of reinforced walls for temperature fires up to 400℃.
These days, Apartment is altered oversized and high-rise through construction techniques development. Also, the cost of cooling and heating load would be expected by balcony expansion into inner space caused by legalization. In specially, HVAC systems of high-rise residential building almost apply to pre-existence techniques of middle and low residential building except for consideration and methods of the air inflow minimization into indoor through mechanical ventilation is used in ventilation system. From these cause, window systems of high-rise apartments stands high in estimation of components. Thus, purpose of this study is to make a comparative study through difference of window systems.
Energy performance of building envelope components, including external walls, floors, roofs, windows and doors, is crutial for determining how much energy is required for heating and cooling in a building. Among various building technologies, a green roof system can be a good option for reducing heat gain and loss in new buildings as well as existing buildings for green remodeling. This paper evaluates the performance of green roof systems according to soil depth and Leaf Area Index (LAI) for existing buildings. It also attempts to quantify the energy saving effects on new and existing buildings with different insulation levels. Thermal performance of green roofs is mainly dependent on soil thickness and LAI. Installation of green roofs in deteriorated existing buildings can lead to improvements in roof insulation, due to the soil layer. An increase in soil depth leads to a decrease in heating load, regardless of conditions of vegetation on the green roof. Larger LAI values may reduce cooling loads in the cooling season. Installation of green roof in deteriorated existing buildings showed bigger energy saving effect in comparison to a case in new buildings. A simulation study showed that the installation of green roof systems in deteriorated existing buildings with low insulation levels, due to low thermal performance requirements when constructed, could improve the energy performance of the buildings similar or better to the peformance on new buildings with the most updated insulation standard. Thus, when remodeling a deteriorated building, green roofs could be a good option to meet the most recent energy requirements.
Switch rail is a very important part on the railway track, which not only accounts for the safety of the passing trains but also greatly influences the speed of the train. The higher the speed and the loads of the train the more it demands on the properties of the switch rail. Research shows that the higher mechanical properties of switch rail the longer the service life. Induction heat treatment is a good way of improving the mechanical properties of metallic materials. But the switch rail's section area changes gradually across the lengthways, which is difficult for induction heating especially for the small section. And the mechanical property of small section of the switch rail is the most important for its service life. The induction heat treatment used past always brings the low hardness on small section which can cause low service life of switch for wearing, or too high hardness because of martensite microstructure which can cause the shelling or even breaking of the switch rail. To prolong the service life of switch rail by higher mechanical properties, we researched the improved induction heat treatment for switch rail by adjusting speed of heating, and adopting compressed air cooling. The results showed that switch rail obtain almost the same high hardness across the length way after the improved induction heat treatment, which is very helpful to extend the service life of switch rail.
Perimeter zone has been reinforced by active systems, such as fan-coil units, because it causes an increase in heating and cooling loads, dew condensation in winter, or discomfort with cold-draft to residents in buildings, through poor insulation by light-weighed skin due to progressing multi-storied buildings and skyscrapers. However, because these active systems raise Its capacity so that fossil fuel is used as much as they are added, and ultimately, greenhouse effect is urged, we proposed BIPV system functioned as solar collector which can substitute active system. As an early stage, heat balance equation in steady-state by Fortran was used not only for pre-heating effect and electric power capacity during the day in winter, but also for electric power capacity during day in slimmer and sky radiation effect during night in summer. Especially, we should have considered shading on PV, since even a little bit of it makes the efficiency too low for the PV to work. Still, when the flux of pre-heated air was increased to make air-barrier, its temperature was not enough to make it because the speed of heat exchange was too fast to warm up the air, thus the capacity to meet the condition was evaluated, and electric power from PV was made used for it.
Zero Energy Multi-House(ZeMH) signifies a residential building which can be self sufficient with just new and renewable energy resources without the aid of any existing fossil fuel. For success of ZeMH, various innovative energy technologies Including passive and active systems should be well integrated with a systematic design approach. The first step for ZeMH is definitely to minimize the conventional heating and cooling loads over 50% with major energy conservation measure and passive solar features which are mainly related to building design components such as super-insulation, super window, including infiltration and ventilation issues. The purpose of this study is to analyze the thermal effect of various building design components in the early design of ZeMH. The process of the study is presented in the following. 1) selection reference model for simulation 2) verification of reference model with computer simulation program(ESP-r 9.0). 3) analysis of effect according to insulation-thickness, kinds of windows, rate of infiltration. and The simulation results indicate that almost 50% savings of conventional heating load in multi-house can be achieved with the optimum design of building components such as super insulation, super window, infiltration, ventilation.
In this article, the author carried out a theoretical study on the application techniques of a new Combined Passive Solar System (hereinafter referred to as the CPSS) of direct gain and trombe walls to get quick morning heating and to prevent afternoon overheating for office building. The numerical model proposed in this study can be used for the performance analysis of the CPSS in the winter and summer. Heating and Cooling loads are analysed for building energy consumption reduction using this numerical model. The results indicate that CPSS in the winter and summer modes could provide profitable conditions for improvement of indoor thermal comfort control and energy saving. consequently, the application of CPSS will not lead to significant reductions in the auxiliary air conditioning demand but also realize the environmentally friendly building.
