In this work, Monte Carlo simulation was used to investigate the magnetization properties of thin ferromagnetic films under a perturbation from a supplied heat pulse on one surface of the films. The finite difference method was used to extract the local temperature of each layer of the films as a function of time for various heat source power and heating period. Then, with the variation of the films temperature, Metropolis method was used to update the magnetic moment in magnetic grain, under the Ising framework and using the FePt parameters. With the extracted magnetization profiles, the relationship between magnetization relaxation in accordance with relevant heat parameters and films thickness was reported and discussed, with a purpose to form a database for future use.
The borehole heat exchanger of Geothermal Heat Pump (GHP) system should be sustainable and cost effective for long term operation. To guaranty the performance of the system thermal Response Tests (TRTs) with simple recommended procedures have been applied in many countries. Korea government developed a standard TRT procedure in order to control the quality on GHP projects. In the TRT procedure interpretation method has a rule that data set has to be interpreted by the line source model(LSM). The LSM employes some assumptions that surrounding medium is homogeneous and the line source is infinite and constant heat flux, however real ground condition is unisotropic and heterogeneous, and showing regional or local ground water flows in many cases. We need to develope improved evaluation models to estimate accurate ground thermal conductivity with respect to geological and influence of ground water because current TRT standard test procedure has limitations to be applied for every locations and system. This study surveyed the uncertainty of the thermal parameters from the interpretation method considering different evaluation period. The interpretation of 208 TRT data sets represents limitations of LSM application that some obtained ground thermal conductivities are statistically unstable and convergence time of ground thermal conductivity over test period shows trends responding the length of test period. This evaluation study will be helpful to provide some effective procedure for the thermal parameter estimation and to complement current TRT standard procedure.
The thermal efficiency of energy-to-power conversion becomes uneconomically low when the temperature of heat source drops below $370^{\circ}C$. ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) has attracted much attention in last few years due to its potential in reducing consumption of fossil fuels and relaxing environmental problems, and its favorable characteristics to exploit low-temperature heat sources. In this work thermodynamic performance of ORC using nine working fluids is comparatively assessed. Special attention is paid to the effect of system parameters such as turbine inlet temperature and pressure on the characteristics of the system such as volumetric flow rate and quality at turbine exit, latent heat, net work as well as thermal efficiency. Results show that in selection of working fluid it is required to consider various criteria of performance characteristics as well as the thermal efficiency. Results also show that the system efficiencies become same irrespective of kind of working fluid when the temperature of heat source decreases to low range.
The ammonia-water based power generation cycle utilizing liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its heat sink has attracted much attention, since the ammonia-water cycle has many thermodynamic advantages in conversion of low-grade heat source in the form of sensible energy and LNG has a great cold energy. In this paper, we carry out thermodynamic performance analysis of a combined power generation cycle which is consisted of an ammonia-water regenerative Rankine cycle and LNG power generation cycle. LNG is able to condense the ammonia-water mixture at a very low condensing temperature in a heat exchanger, which leads to an increased power output. Based on the thermodynamic models, the effects of the key parameters such as source temperature, ammonia concentration and turbine inlet pressure on the characteristics of system are throughly investigated. The results show that the thermodynamic performance of the ammonia-water power generation cycle can be improved by the LNG cold energy and there exist an optimum ammonia concentration to reach the maximum system net work production.

Flame spread and heat release properties and incident heat flux of interior materials subject to an igniter heat flux in a compartment are investigated and compared by using computer model. A comer fire ignition source is maintained for 10 minutes at 100 kw and subsequently increased to 300kw. In executing the model, base-line material properties are selected and one is changed for each run. Also 4 different igniter heat flux conditions and examined. Results are compared for the 12 different materials tested by the ISO Room Comer Test (9705). The time for total energy release rate to reach 1MW is examined. The parameters considered include flame heat flux and thermal inertia, lateral flame spread parameter, heat of combustion and effective heat of gasfication. The model can show the importance of each property in causing fire growth on interior Hnish materials in a compartment. The effect of ignitor heat flux and material property effects were demonstrated by using dimensionless parameters a, b and Tb. Results show that for b greater than about zero, flashover time in the ISO Room-Corner test is principally proportional to ignition time and nothing more.
Recently many studies for improvement of productivity and automation of process are in progress, and among others, laser-arc hybrid welding that combined laser and arc has attracted much attention. Since parameters by interactions as well as the parameters of each heat source should be considered, There are a lot of hardship in actual application, even though many researches have been done so far. Therefore in this study, bead welding was done to examine the effects of the flow rate of shield gas and the distance between laser and arc during laser-arc hybrid welding. As for hybrid heat source, disk laser and MIG were used. As experiment result, sound bead and weld with no defect were formed when the flow rate of front and rear shield gas were respectively 20 l/min and 15 l/min, and deep penetration was done at DLA=3 mm.
GHX (Geothermal Heat Exchanger) design which determines the performance and initial cost is the most important factor in ground source heat pump system. Performance of GHX is strongly dependent on the thermal resistance of soil, grout and pipe. In general, GHX design is based on the static simulation program. In this study, dynamic simulation has been peformed to analyze the variation of system performance for various GHX parameters. Line-source theory has been applied to calculate the variation of ground temperature. The averaged weather data measured during a 10-year period $(1991\sim2000)$ in Seoul is used to calculate cooling and heating loads of a building with a floor area of $100m^2$. The simulation results indicate that thermal properties of borehole play significant effect on the overall performance. Change of grout thermal conductivity from 0.4 to $3.0W/(m^{\circ}C)$ increases COP of heating by 9.4% and cooling by 17%. Change of soil thermal conductivity from 1.5 to $4.0W/(m^{\circ}C)$ increases COP of heating by 13.3% and cooling by 4.4%. Change of GHX(length from 100 to 200 m increases COP of heating by 10.6% and cooling by 10.2%. To study long term performance, dynamic simulation has been conducted for a 20-year period and the result showed that soil temperature decreases by $1^{\circ}C$, heating COP decreases by 2.7% and cooling COP decreases by 1.4%.
Steel-pipe civil structures, including steel-pipe energy piles and cast-in-place piles (CIPs), utilize steel pipes as their primary reinforcements. These steel pipes facilitate the circulation of a working fluid through their annular crosssection, enabling heat exchange with the surrounding ground formation. In this study, the cooling performance of a ground source heat pump (GSHP) system that incorporated steel-pipe civil structures was investigated to assess their applicability. First of all, the thermal performance test was conducted with steel-pipe CIPs to evaluate the average heat exchange amount. Subsequently, a GSHP system was designed and implemented within an office container, considering the various types of steel-pipe civil structures. During the performance evaluation tests, parameters such as the coefficient of performance (COP) and entering water temperature (EWT) were closely monitored. The outcomes indicated an average COP of 3.74 for the GSHP system and the EWT remained relatively stable throughout the tests. Consequently, the GSPH system demonstrated its capability to consistently provide a sufficient heat source, even during periods of high cooling thermal demand, by utilzing the steel-pipe civil structures.
The problem of Benard double diffusive Marangoni convection is investigated in a horizontally infinite composite layer system consisting of a two component fluid layer above a porous layer saturated with the same fluid, using Darcy-Brinkman model with constant heat sources/sink in both the layers. The lower boundary of the porous region is rigid and upper boundary of the fluid region is free with Marangoni effects. The system of ordinary differential equations obtained after normal mode analysis is solved in closed form for the eigenvalue, thermal Marangoni number for two types of thermal boundary combinations, Type (I) Adiabatic-Adiabatic and Type (II) Adiabatic -Isothermal. The corresponding two thermal Marangoni numbers are obtained and the essence of the different parameters on non-Darcy-Benard double diffusive Marangoni convection are investigated in detail.
