Knowledge of ground thermal properties is most important for the proper design of large scale BHE(borehole heat exchanger) systems. The type, pipe size and thermal performance of the BHE is highly dependent on the ground source heatpump system-efficiency and instruction cost. Thermal response tests with mobile measurement devices were developed primarily for insitu determination of design data for large diameter BHE for triple-U spacer apply. The main purpose has been to determine insitu values of effective ground thermal conductivity and thermal resistance, including the effect of ground-water flow and natural convection in the boreholes. The test rig is set up on a some trailer, and contains a circulation pump, a inline heater, temperature sensors, flow meter, power analysis meter and a data logger for recording the temperature, fluid flow data. A constant heat power is injected into the borehole through the tripl-U pipes system of test rig and the resulting temperature change in the borehole is recorded. The recorded temperature data are analysed with a line-source model, which gives the effective insitu values of rock thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance of large diameter BHE for spacer apply.
Although leakage at a low carbon steel pipe made by electrical resistance welding (ERW) was reported due to grooving corrosion, the cause for the corrosion has not yet been cleared. In order to clarify the main cause, failure analysis on the leaked pipe was carried out, followed by metallographic investigation and corrosion test for the various ERW pipe made with different welding heat input. The microstructure, particularly inclusion content, of the weldment is dependant on the welding heat input applied. For an improper low heat input, the amount of inclusion at the weld was high. High inclusion content accelerated grooving corrosion at the weld. It is therefore that welding heat input should be controlled based on the carbon content of the pipe in order to improve the corrosion resistance of the ERW pipe.
Thermal resistance of dried bacterial spores against dry heat was determined. Spare suspensions of Bacillus subtilis var. niger ATCC 9372, Bacillus stearothermophilus Oxoid Code BR 23 and Clostridium sporogenes ATCC 19404 were located on aluminium strips, dried in electric oven under vacuum at room temperature for 10 minutes. The aluminium strips were laid in the middle of gas flow (hot air and superheated steam) with the velocity of 6 m/sec and heated at $120^{\circ}C$ for 180 seconds. The calculated D-values showed that there were no remarkable differences in the heat resistance of bacterial spares between $R.H.\leqq0.012$ and R. H.=0.51. Furthermore the thermal resistance of B. subtilis spores to dry heat was greater than that of B. stearothermophilus.

The heat and mass transfer on two kinds of tube surfaces (bare stainless steel tube and Teflon coated tube) in steam-air mixture flow are experimentally studied to obtain design data for the heat exchanger of the latent heat recovery from flue gas. In the test section, 3-tubes are horizontally installed, and steam-air mixture is vertically flowed from the top to the bottom. The pitch between tubes is 67mm, the out-diameter of tube is 25.4mm, and the thickness is 1.2mm ; blockage factor (cross sectional tube area over the cross sectional area of the test section) is about 0.38. All of sensors and measurement systems (RTD, pressure sensor, flow-meter, relative humidity sensor, etc.) are calibrated with certificated standard sensors and the uncertainty for the heat transfer measurement is surveyed to have the uncertainty within 7%. As experimental results, overall heat transfer coefficient of the Teflon (FEP) coated tube is degraded about 20% compared to bare stainless tube. The degradation of overall heat transfer coefficient of Teflon coated tube comes from the additional heat transfer resistance due to Teflon coating. Its magnitude of heat transfer resistance is comparable to the in-tube heat transfer resistance. Nusselt and Sherwood numbers on Teflon (FEP) coated surface and bare stainless steel surface are discussed in detail with the contact angles of the condensate.
Turbo-fan for ceiling cassette type air conditioner doesn't operate in general volute. It is operated by porous material, heat exchanger. Heat exchanger increases resistance of air conditioning system and disturbs exit-flow of impeller. Therefore it has some influences on impeller capacity. In this study, we want to how that influence of exchanger on impeller capacity for ceiling cassette type air conditioner. To research, we made circular case that didn't have asymmetric part unlike rectangular case. With and without heat exchanger we measured total pressure and static pressure of impeller and three-dimensional rear flow field From the result, a turbo fan , installed in the 35mm back of fan and operated in heat exchanger, experienced $2{\%}{\~}5{\%}$% total pressure loss over all flow rate. With heat exchanger impeller efficiency decrease as flow rate decrease when flow rate coefficient was below 0.18. Especially when flow rate coefficient was below 0.12, there was $20{\%}{\~}30{\%}$ decrease of impeller efficiency.

Heat transfer in linear motor driven stages for surface mounting device applications was investigated. A simple one-dimensional thermal resistance model (TRM) was introduced. In order to reduce three-dimensional nature to one-dimensional, a few assumptions and simplifications were employed suitably. A good agreement with a finite element heat transfer analysis in temperature profile was obtained. For validation, the analysis was compared with the measurement with respect to motor driving power. Overall discrepancy was less than 7$^{\circ}C$. The influence of two high thermal resistance parts, insulation sheet and thermal contact between the coil assembly and the mounting plate, was examined through the analysis. Additionally, the thermal resistance analysis was applied to another stage including an internal cooling-air passage, and was found available for this system as well. After validation, the cooling effect was surveyed in terms of motor power, and cooling-air and -water flow rate.

Overlay welding is carried out to improve the corrosion resistance, wear resistance and heat resistance on the surface of the chemical plant and steelmaking plant structures. In overlay welding, control of the bead size and the temperature distribution of weldment are particularly important because that is directly connected to the improvement of quality and productivity. The aim of this study is to model the welding heat source that is very useful to analyze the bead size and temperature distribution of weldment. To find the welding heat source model, numerical analyses are performed by using FE software MSC-marc.
In the present study, the characteristic of flow distribution in the channel of a plate heat exchanger is investigated numerically. In order to accomplish the efficient and fast analyses of the flow characteristics in the channel, a semi-microscopic analysis has been performed using a porous media model. For semi-microscopic analysis using porous media, the flow resistance coefficients are obtained through the result of pressure drop in the experimental data. The results showed that the variation of mass flow rate, geometry and chevron angle strongly depend on the flow distribution in the channel. Particularly, the chevron angle is most important factor for uniform flow distribution.
Single phase heat transfer coefficients were measured for turbulent water flow in a plate & shell heat exchangers by using Wilson plot method. An experiment for counterflow heat exchange between the plate and shell was performed. The shell side heat transfer resistance was varied and the overall heat transfer coefficients were measured. The single-phase heat transfer coefficients in a plate side were obtained by Wilson plot method. Single-phase heat transfer correlations based on projected heat transfer area have been proposed for a plate & shell heat exchanger.
