  • The heat diffusion equation for an annular fin is analyzed by Laplace transformation. The fin has a uniform thickness, with its end insulated, and three different temperature profiles at the base such as step change, harmonic and exponential functions. The exact solutions for the temperature and heat flux of the fins are obtained with the infinite series. The series solutions converge rapidly for large values of dimensionless time, but slowly for small values. Therefore some approximate solutions are presented here to fine the temperature distribution and heat flux for small values of dimensionless time. Furthermore a simple approximate heat flux, .OMEGA.=1.13c.tau.$^{1}$2/ is found in the range of .tau. .leg. o.1/c for the exponential function at the base.

  • This paper illustrates the validity of reciprocating type superadiabatic combustor as a industrial applicable dryer. After the investigations of inner and surface temperature distributions of combustor various with air-fuel(methane) ratio, mixture flow rate and reciprocating time, this combustor can be applied in industrial dryer at certain operating conditions. The results are as follows. 1) Higher equilivalence ratio emits more radiation heat flux at the censer chamber 2) Higher mixture flow rate makes more uniform temperature distribution. however, due to the heat transfer from censer chamber to porous media, the radiation beat flux is worse. 3) Longer reciprocating time emit more radiation heat flux. however, this case also makes temperature distribution wide

  • Numerical simulation was applied to investigate the Taylor vortex flow inside the concentric cylinders with a constant radial temperature gradient. The reliability of numerical simulation method was verified by the experimental results of PIV. The radial velocity and temperature distribution in plain and 12-slit model at different axial locations were compared, and the heat flux distributions along the inner cylinder wall at different work conditions were obtained. In the plain model, the average surface heat flux of inner cylinder increased with the inner cylinder rotation speed. In slit model, the slit wall significantly changed the distribution of flow field and temperature in the annulus gap, and the radial flow was strengthen obviously, which promoted the heat transfer process at the same working condition.

  • The gradient of the residual stress distribution by the heat treatment temperature in the commercial single mode fiber was investigated. The heat treatment of the optical fiber was carried out at 700${\circ}$C, 1100${\circ}$C, and 1200${\circ}$C for 1 hour by using the halogen lamp and the residual stress measurement of the optical fiber was accomplished by using the inverse linear polarizing method. Mechanical residual stress was relaxed and thermal residual stress was invested by the heat treatment.

  • The heat flow characteristics of the Gudle (traditional Ondol) used a lot at farm houses have been performed with variations of Bunengki (Fireridge) by numerical analysis and field experiment. The Doedon-Gorae (Return-Firetunnel) Gudle is analyzed among the structure of Gudle. The distribution of heat flow in Gorse (Firetunnel) and the temperature distribution in floor of 3 Buneomgi (Fire ridge) was more uniform than that of 1 Buneomgi. The heat efficiency of 3 Buneomgi was higher than that of 1 Bunengki. That is, the 3 Bunengk is more efficient and more uniform temperature.

  • The temperature distribution and lifetime of molds were predicted by computer simulation analysis with various spraying and blowing process of high pressure die casting. After varying the spraying angle and time, the mold temperature, heat exchange and mold life were predicted. As the spraying angle increases, the maximum temperature of the mold decreases, which is because the spraying area increases and the heat exchange with the mold increases. Heat exchange occurs more actively in the blowing process than in the spraying process. This is because the cooling is not performed due to the steam generation. When the spraying angle is 50 degree, the minimum life of the mold is analyzed 200 times. After adjusting the blowing time from 5s to 3s, the minimum lifetime of the mold has been increased almost twice.

  • When exact analytical solutions to certain type of heat conduction problems are quite cumbersome or not obtainable, it is important to introduce approximate analytical methods which are simple and useful compared with numerical methods. In this study, therefore, the Heat Balance Integral Method is applied to analysis of steady-state conduction in a straight fin of trapezoidal profile, and the two-dimensional temperature distribution in the fin and the approximate fin efficiency are obtained. Results are compared with those by the one- dimensional analysis and two-dimensional numerical analysis for a wide range of Biot numbers. It is shown that the two-dimensional temperature distribution obtained by the integral method is in good agreement with that by the finite element method at Biot numbers for which the result by the one-dimensional analysis is unreliable.

  • This study experimentally investigates effect of boiling heat transfer when ultrasonic vibration was applied. Under the wall temperature condition, temperature distribution in a cavity was measured during the boiling process and heat transfer coefficient of convection, sub-tooled boiling and saturated boiling states were measured with and without ultrasonic vibration, respectively. Also, the profiles of the pressure distribution in acoustic field measured by a hydrophone were compared with the augmentation ratios of heat transfer calculated by local heat transfer coefficient. Result of this study, heat transfer coefficient and augmentation ratio of heat transfer is higher with ultrasonic waves than without one. Especially, augmentation ratio of heat transfer is more increased the convection state than sub-cooled boiling and saturated boiling states. Acoustic pressure is relatively higher near ultrasonic transducer than other points where is no installed it and affects the augmentation ratio of heat transfer.

  • In this paper, the magneto-thermal analysis of an induction heating jar is presented as an efficient design. The magnetic field inside the axisymmetric shaped cooker is analyzed using an axisymmetric FEM(Finite Element Method) and the effectual heat source is obtained by calculation of the induction current in the Jar. The temperature distribution can be calculated using the heat source and heat equation.

  • This paper presents numerical study on flow and heat transfer characteristics in micro-gap plate heat exchanger. In particular, we investigate the effect of flow inertia on the flow distribution from single main channel to multiple parallel micro-gaps. The flow regime of the main channel is varied from laminar regime (Reynolds number of 100) to turbulent regime (Reynolds number of 10000) by changing the flow rate, and non-uniformity of the flow distribution and temperature field is evaluated quantitatively based on the standard deviation. The flow distribution is found to be significantly affected by not only the header design but also the flow rate of the main channel. It is also observed that the non-uniformity of the temperature field has its maximum at the intermediate flow regime.
