  • Metal cutting operations involve generation of heat due to friction between the tool and the pieces. This heat needs to be carried away otherwise it creates white spots. To reduce this abnormal heat cutting fluid is used. Cutting fluid also has an important role in the lubrication of the cutting edges of machine tools and the pieces they are shaping, and in sluicing away the resulting swarf. As a cutting fluid, water is a great conductor of heat but is not stable at high temperatures, so to improve stability an emulsion type mixed fluid with water and oil is often used. It is pumped over the cutting site of cutting machines as a state of atomized water droplet coated with oil by using jet. In this paper, to develop cutting fluid supplying nozzle to obtain ultra thin oil film for coating water droplet, a numerical analysis of three dimensional mixed fluid Jet through multi-stage nozzle was carried out by using a finite volume method. Jet flow characteristics such as nozzle exit velocity, development of mixing region, re-entrance and jet intensity were analyzed. Detailed mixing process of fluids such as air, water and oil in the nozzle were also investigated. It is easy to understand complex flow pattern in multi-stage nozzle. Important flow Information for advance design of cutting fluid supplying nozzle was drawn.

  • Concrete exposed to severely low temperature below $-20^{\circ}C$ should be provided with proper heat supplying curing to protect the concrete from early frost damage at the time of pouring.meanwhile, so far, effective heat curingmethods of the concrete under severely low temperature are not well established in Korea. For this reason, the objective of this paper is to provide effective heat curingmethod of concrete exposed to severely low temperature to protect early frost damage by varying the combination of heat curingmaterial combinations. Temperature history, maturity development and core strength results are investigated. Fourmock-up specimens simulating slab, wall and column were prepared and heat insulation, heat supplying and both were applied. Test results indicate that the combination of quadruple layer bubble sheet(4BS) and embedding of heating cable has desirable performance for a slab, and heat supplying curing inside heat enclosure and heat generationmat also shows desirable performance for a wall, and for a column, use of EPS heat insulation has proper performance against early frost damage, which reaches $45^{\circ}D{\cdot}D$ and helps the concretemaintain above $0^{\circ}C$ within 3 days. Themethodsmentioned above are believed to be optimum protection from early frost damage of the concrete under $-20^{\circ}C$.

  • Purpose: The underground air is the warm air discharged from the porous volcano bedrock 30-50m underground in Jeju, including excessive humidity. The temperature of the underground air is $15-20^{\circ}C$ throughout the year. In Jeju, the underground air was used for heating greenhouses by supplying into greenhouses directly. This heating method by supplying the underground air into greenhouses directly had several problems. The study was conducted to develop the heat pump system using underground air as heat source for resolving excessive humidity problem of the underground air, adopting the underground air as a farm supporting project by Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs(MAFRA) and saving heating cost for agricultural facilities. Method: 35kW scale(10 RT) heat pump system using underground air installed in a greenhouse of area $330m^2$ in Jeju-Special Self-Governing Province Agricultural Research & Extension Services, Seogwipo-si, Jeju. The inlet and outlet water temperature of the condenser, the evaporator and the thermal storage tank and the underground air temperature and the air temperature in the greenhouse were measured by T type thermocouples. The data were collected and saved in a data logger(MV200, Yokogawa, Japan). Flow rates of water flowing in the condenser, the evaporator and the thermal storage tank were measured by an ultrasonic flow meter(PT868, Panametrics, Norway). The total electric power that consumed by the system was measured by a wattmeter(CW240, Yokogawa, Japan). Heating COP, rejection heat of condenser, extraction heat of evaporator and heating cost were analyzed. Result: The underground air in Jeju was adopted as a farm supporting project by Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs(MAFRA) in 2010. From 2011, the heat pump systems using underground air as a heat source were installed in 12 farms(16.3ha) in Jeju.

  • This paper presents a numerical model of internal flows in a lubricant supplying and scavenging flow path of an aero-engine lubrication system. The numerical model was built in the General Analysis Software of Aero-engine Lubrication System, GASLS, developed by Northwestern Polytechnical University. The lubricant flow flux, pressure and temperature distribution at steady state were calculated. GASLS is a general purpose computer program employed a 1-D steady state network algorithm for analyzing flowrates, pressures and temperatures in a complex flow network. All kinds of aero-engine lubrication systems can be divided into finite correlative typical elements and nodes from which the calculation network be developed in GASLS. Special emphasis is on how to use combined elements which is a type of typical elements to replace some complex components like bearing bores, accessory gearboxes or heat exchangers. This method can reduce network complexity and improve calculation efficiency. Final computational results show good agreement with experimental data.
