  • This paper develops methodology in order to consider CHP(Combined Heat and Power) capacity in the Basic Plan of Long Term Electricity Supply & Demand. We develop generating cost of CHP considering electric and heat. Also we develop mixed load duration curve which includes the electric load and heat load and then apply CHP capacity to SCM(Screening Curve Method) considering CHP feature. Accordingly, it decide the optimal CHP capacity in the Basic Plan of Long Term Electricity Supply & Demand. Also, We perform the sensitivity analysis according to cost variation.

  • The objective of the present study is to reveal thermal characteristic of micro-capsulated lauric acid slurry, which has high latent heat during phase change from solid to liquid, in circular pipe. Tests were performed with the microcapsulated lauric acid slurry in the heating test section with a constant heat flux boundary condition. Local Nusselt number and the effective thermal capacity were measured. As the sizes of microcapsulated lauric acids were increased, local Nusselt numbers of microcapsulated lauric acid slurries were increased. The effective thermal capacity of microcapsulated lauric acid slurry was 1.43 times larger than that of water.

  • An experimental study on heat pump cycle systematizing characteristics for non-azeotropic refrigerant mixtures of R-22+R-114 was reported. Data were obtained under steady state condition at the ranges of parameters, 550- 2, 170kcal/h, 670-2, 990kcal/h, 24-71kg/h, and 0-1, for as cooling capacity, heating capacity, mass 25, 50, 75, and 100 per cent of R-22 by weight fraction for R-22+R-114 mixtures. The results shown that the C.O.P of the 50wt% of R-22 mixture was considerably larger than for pure R-22 and other weight fraction of R-22 mixtures, but the compression power of the 25wt% of R-22 was lower than that of the pure R-22 and the other weight fraction of R-22 mixtures. The hightest value of cooling capacity was obtained at the conditions of evaporating temperature 5.deg.C and R-22 50wt% mixture. In general, with an increase in the R-22 weight fraction for fixed values of the other parameter, the cooling capacity increased at first, obtained a maximum, and then decreasd. This verified the importance of accurate weight fractions od refrigerant mixtures in the heat pump cycle.

  • Air-source heat pumps are widely used in residential heating systems. However, the decrease in the capacity of the heat pump is unavoidable when operating at very low and high ambient temperatures. The vapor injection technique is considered a promising technology to overcome this problem. Recent research on vapor injection cycles have mainly adopted a scroll compressor with an internal heat exchanger at severe operating conditions. This study measured the COP and EER of a gas injection heat pump using a flash tank with an inverter-driven rotary compressor at severe operating conditions. Compared to non-injection heat pumps, the heating capacity and COP of the gas injection heat pump improved up to 15% and 2.9%, respectively, at outdoor temperatures of $-10^{\circ}C$ to $7^{\circ}C$. The cooling capacity of the gas injection heat pump was 11% higher than the non-injection heat pump at an outdoor temperature of $35^{\circ}C$. At the same time, the EER of the gas injection heat pump was similar to that of the non-injection heat pump.

  • A new design concept for a decay heat removal system in a liquid metal reactor is proposed. The new design utilizes a thermosyphon to enhance the heat removal capacity and its heat transfer characteristics are analyzed against the current PSDRS (Passive Safety Decay heat Removal System) in the KAL IMER (Korea Advanced LIquid MEtal Reactor) design. The preliminary analysis results show that the new design with a thermosyphon yields substantial increase of 20∼40% in the decay heat removal capacity compared to the current design that do not have the thermosyphon. The new design reduces the temperature rise in the cooling air of the system and helps the surrounding structure in maintaining its mechanical integrity for long term operation at an accident. Also the analysis revealed the characteristics of the interactions among various heat transfer modes in the new design.

  • Drying process, corresponding to a final process in the area of food engineering, requires a lot of heat energy. Thus, the energy efficiency is very important for dryers. Since the energy efficiency of heat pump dryers is much higher compared to that of electric dryers or other types of dryers, most of large-capacity dryers are adopting heat pump. In this study, shapes, positions and number of air-circulating fans, guide vanes, air inlet, outlet and top separator were varied for optimization of the flow of a large-capacity heat pump dryer. In addition, fans were modelled with performance curves and porous media were assumed for foods and heat exchangers. The simulation results were applied to the 12-ton dryer and the velocity distributions were experimentally examined. Finally, uniform drying in time was successfully accomplished through frozen pepper experiment.

  • An expansion device plays an important role in optimizing the heat pumps by controlling refrigerant flow and balancing the system pressures. Conventional expansion devices are being gradually replaced with electronic expansion valves due to increasing focus on comfort, energy conservation, and application of a variable speed compressor. In addition, the amount of refrigerant charge in a heat pump is another primary parameter influencing system performance. In this study, the flow characteristics of the expansion devices are analyzed, and the effects of refrigerant charge amount on the performance of the heat pump are investigated at various operating conditions. Cooling capacity of the heat pump system is strongly dependent on load conditions. The heat pump system is very sensitive with a variation of refrigerant charge amount. But, the performance of it can be optimized by adjusting the flow rate through expansion device to maintain a constant superheat at all test conditions.

  • This study is performed to develop a tripple-tube exchanger which can improve the system efficiency. Three different tube diameters are compacted by one body(tripple-tube) to recover waste heat from heat exchanging among the fluids. With this, the tripple-tube shows higher cooling capacity than the double-tube after comparing between those two systems. The results of this study are basic data to design the optimum tripple-tube heat exchanger.

  • Thermal performance of pipe network of continuous heating system controlled by thermostat and flow control valve was simulated in consideration of radiation heat transfer and solved by linear analysis method. Thermal performance of real apartment building with radiant floor heating system was simulated by equivalence heat resistance-capacity method. This method enables to simulate the unsteady variation of temperature or each element of building. Heat transfer characteristics of each element were also investigated.
