Different methods exist for the estimation of thermaldeformation of plates in the line heating process. These are based on the assumption of residual strains in the heat-affected zone, known as the method of inherent strains, or simulated relations between heating conditions and residual deformations. The purpose of this paper is to develop a simulator of thermal deformation in the line heating, using the artificial neural network. Curvature deformations for the plate-forming are investigated, which can be used as a prime deformation parameter in the process. The curvature of plates are calculated using the approximation of plate surface by NURBS. Line heating experiments for 11 specimens of different thickness and heating conditions were performed. Two neural networks predicting the maximum temperature and curvature deformations at the heating line are studied. It was concluded that the thermal deformations predicted by the neural network can be used in a line heating simulator, which is considered an attractive and practical alternative to the existing methods.
This study has been performed for mechanical properties of underwater wet welding electrode with rolled steel (KR-RA) for ship structure, one kind (E 4313) of domestic covered arc welding electrode used in the air and two kinds (UWE-01, UWE-02) of underwater covered arc welding electrode experimentally developed on the same welding condition. The results obtained were as follows : The hardness value of underwater covered arc welding electrode (UWE-01) was about 8.3% lower than domestic covered arc welding electrode(E 4313) in heat affected zone of test of UWF-02 was lower about 4.5%. Tensile strengths of UWE-01 were about 0.9%, and those of UWE-02 were about 6.5% higher than those of domestic covered arc welding electrodes (E 4313) in test specimens. The impect value of UWE-01 were about 15.5%, and those of UWE-02 were about 21.7% highter than those of domestic covered arc welding electrodes(E 4313) in test specimens. So mechanical properties of the underwater arc welding electrode were improved by the composition ratios of covering materials.
Nowadays, the crank shaft motor vehicle has become essential as the important component. The machining precision was asked for manufacturing the shaft. They could be unstable in the quality by the conventional are welding. Both in-process quailty control and high reliability of the weld are the major concerns in applying friction wlding to the economical and qualified mass-production. No reliable nondestructive monitoring method is avaliable at present to determine the real-time evaluation of automatic production quality control for bar-to-bar friction welding of the crank shaft of O.D 24mm for motor vehicle. This paper, so that, presents the experimental examinations and statistical quantitative analysis of the correlation between the cumulative counts of acoustic emission(AE) during plastic deformation periods of the welding and the tensile strength and other properties of the bar-to-bar welded joints of O.D. 24mm shaft as well as the various welding variables, as a new approach which attempts finally to develop real-time quality monitoring system for friction welding, resulting in practical possiblility of real-time quality control more than 100% joint efficiency showing good weld with no micro structural defects.
The purpose of this work is to predict ductile fracture of structural steel under extremely low cyclic loading experienced in earthquake. A cumulative damage model is proposed on the basis of an existing damage model originally aiming to predict fracture under monotonic loading. The cumulative damage model assumes that damage does not grow when stress triaxiality is below a threshold and fracture occurs when accumulated damage reach unit. The model was implemented in ABAQUS software. The cumulative damage model parameters for steel base metal, weld metal and heat affected zone were calibrated, respectively, through testing and finite element analyses of notched coupon specimens. The damage evolution law in the notched coupon specimens under different loads was compared. Finally, in order to examine the engineering applicability of the proposed model, the fracture performance of beam-column welded joints reported by previous researches was analyzed based on the cumulative damage model. The analysis results show that the cumulative damage model is able to successfully predict the cracking location, fracture process, the crack initiation life, and the total fatigue life of the joints.

A study on the corrosion behavior of RE36 steel for marine structure was investigated with parameters such as micro-Vickers hardness, corrosion potential and corrosion current density measurement of weld metal(WM), base metal (BM) and heat affected zone(HAZ), Al anode generating current and Al anode weight loss quantity in case of cathodic protection. And we carried out slow strain rate test(SSRT) in order to research mechanical properties such as stress at maximum load, percent strain, time to fracture and strain to failure ratio etc and to find out limiting cathodic polarization potential for hydrogen embrittlement with applied cathodic polarization potential. Hardness of HAZ part was the highest among those three parts and also galvanic corrosion susceptibility was the highest in HAZ part among those three parts due to the lowest corrosion potential than other parts. However corrosion current density was the highest in WM part among those three parts. And the optimum cathodic polarization potential showing the best mechanical properties obtained by SSRT method with applied constant cathodic potential was from - 770mV to - 875mV(SCE). However it is suggested that limiting cathodic polarization potential indicating hydrogen embrittlement on the mechanical properties was under - 900mV(SCE).
Objective : I want to examine the antimicrobial activity of Samhwangsasimtang against pseudomonas aeruginosa 38 isolated from an acne patient. Method : Antimicrobial activity was assayed through the hot water extract from Samhwangsasimtang against pseudomonas aeruginosa 38 isolated from an acne patient. Result : The size of inhibition zone of Samhwangsasimtang extract was $12.6\;{\pm}\;0.04\;mm$. The optimal pH and temperature for the growth of isolated pseudomonas aeruginosa 38 were 6.0 and $37^{\circ}C$, respectively. The minimum inhibitory concentration of Samhwangsasimtang extract was $10\;{\pm}\;0.06\;{\mu\ell}$ and the antimicrobial activity of Samhwangsasimtang extract was not destroyed by the heat ($121^{\circ}C$ for 15 min) and not affected by pH. Conclusion : Reviewing this experimental result, it appeared that Samhwangsasimtang had efficacy against pseudomonas aeruginosa 38 isolated from an acne patient.
Experimental research has been carried out to investigate the characteristics of the fatigue crack initiation and propagation behavior of Tailor Welded Blank(TB) sheet used for vehicle body. We used three types of specimens which were machined of the same base metal: one is 1.4mm thick, another is 1.6mm thick, and the third(TB specimen) is laser-welded of two specimens(1.4mm and 1.6mm thick ones). The results of tensile and hardness test indicate that the yield strength of the TB specimen is the highest, and the hardness around welding bead is higher than that of base metal. Fatigue strength and fatigue limit of the TB specimen are much superior to those of the base metal up to $10^6$ cycles. The fatigue crack propagation of the heat-affected zone of the TB specimen is slower than that of the base metal. Welding bead has the fastest crack Propagation in the low stress intensity factor range$(\DeltaK)$ region, but the slowest in the high $\DeltaK$ region. The fatigue propagation characteristic of the TB specimen is relatively stable in comparison with that of the base metal in the high ${\Delta}K$ region around over $28MPa\sqrt{m}$.
The shock absorbers for marine vehicles are very important components to absorbing the shock resulting from driving. Depending on the kinds of vehicles, these essential components, piston and piston rod, must be made of S25C, S45C, and SCM440, must be precisely machined, and assembled by the bolts. Other materials used have been difficult to weld, and could be unstable in quality, by the conventional arc welding. Also, they have been associated with a lot of technical problems in manufacturing. However, using the friction welding technique, such problems will be avoided. These factors have necessitated the domestic development of the marine shock absorber using a friction welding, as well as stimulating a new approach to the study of real-time weld quality evaluation by AE techniques.
Fracture behavior of ex-serviced 1Cr-0.5Mo steel was measured at room($24^{\circ}C$) and elevated($538^{\circ}C$) temperature and compared with that measured with virgin 1Cr-0.5Mo steel. Compact C(T) specimens were machined from the base and welded test materials. In case of the C(T) specimens of the weld, fatigue precrack was introduced along the fusion line so that following crack growth should occurs along the region of heat affected zone. It was observed that the J-R curve of the serviced material was significantly lower than that of the virgin material at room temperature. Brittle fracture was observed in the serviced material. On the other hand, at elevated temperature no noticeable difference was found between the J-R curves of the virgin and the serviced material. The measured J-R curves were also compared with those of the 1.25Cr-0.5Mo steel obtained from the other literatures. Optical microscopy and SEM examination of the serviced material reveal the carbide in/along the grain boundary which shows material degradation due to long-term usage. An example of application of the measured J-R curves is shown.
Nondestructive inspection (NDI) is an integral part of structural integrity analyses of dry storage casks that house spent nuclear fuel. One significant concern for the structural integrity is stress corrosion cracking in the heat-affected zone of welds in the stainless steel canister that confines the spent fuel. In situ NDI methodology for detection of stress corrosion cracking is investigated, where the inspection uses a delivery robot because of the presence of the harsh environment and geometric constrains inside the cask protecting the canister. Shear horizontal (SH) guided waves that are sensitive to cracks oriented either perpendicular or parallel to the wave vector are used to locate welds and to detect cracks. SH waves are excited and received by electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) using noncontact ultrasonic transduction and pulse-echo mode. A laboratory-scale canister mock-up is fabricated and inspected using the proposed methodology to evaluate the ability of EMATs to excite and receive SH waves and to locate welds. The EMAT's capability to detect notches from various distances is evaluated on a plate containing 25%-through-thickness surface-breaking notches. Based on the results of the distances at which notch reflections are detectable, NDI coverage for spent nuclear fuel storage canisters is determined.
