노인의 주관적 건강상태와 건강관련 삶의 질의 관련성 : 구강건강수준의 조절 효과 중심으로 (Relationship between perceived health status and health-related quality of life in the elderly: A focus on moderating effects of oral health)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to validate the moderating effect of oral health on the relationship between perceived health status and health-related quality of life in the elderly and to use this information as primary data to suggest oral health policies for the aged society. Methods: This study included 3,707 subjects aged over 65 years who answered all the variables used in the study model and completed the health questionnaire and screening survey based on the sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Baron & Kenny's linear regression analysis using SPSS 22.0 and SPSS Macro Version 3.1 programs was performed to confirm the moderating effect of the number of remaining natural teeth, chewing difficulty, and cardiovascular disease on the relationship between perceived health status and healthrelated quality of life in the elderly. Results: The number of remaining natural teeth, chewing difficulties, and cardiovascular diseases affected the perceived health status of the elderly. As the number of remaining natural teeth increased, the effect of perceived health status on the quality of life in the elderly was buffered. The effect of perceived health status on the quality of life increased with chewing difficulties and the number of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it was confirmed that chewing difficulties, rather than the number of cardiovascular diseases. had a greater effect on the quality of life in the elderly. Conclusions: Oral health policies and projects are required to ensure oral rehabilitation with dentures and implants and restore chewing function to improve the quality of life of the elderly in Korea.

노인의 의료비 지출분석 -충북 거주 노인을 중심으로- (An Analysis on Health Expenditures of the Elderly -Focused on the Elderly in Chungbuk-)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the health expenditures of the elderly by examinning 1) the level of the health expenditures by socio-demographic characteristics, and 2) the factors influencing the health expenditures of the elderly. The data were collected by individual interview, consisting of a sample of 258 elders living in Chungbuk province. Of them, 244 elders were used for the analysis. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, Anova, Tobit anlysis using SAS program. The results were as follows: there were significant differences in the health expenditures of the elderly by income, age, level of education, residential area, level of health condition, type of marriage, illness. The factors influencing the health expenditures of the elderly were income, residential area, and illness.

요양보호사의 구강보건 지식, 구강건강 인식이 요양시설 노인의 구강건강 관련 삶의 질에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Oral Health Knowledge and Awareness of Caregivers in Charge on Oral Health-Related Quality of Life of the Elderly in Nursing Homes)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of oral health knowledge and awareness of caregivers in charge on the oral health-related quality of life of the elderly in nursing homes. Data were collected from 115 elderly without dementia and their 115 caregivers in nursing facilities in S and C cities. The data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. The average score for oral health knowledge and awareness of the caregivers were 11.62, 39.22 points each and the oral health-related quality of life of the elderly was 40.62 points. Oral health knowledge, awareness of caregivers and oral health-related quality of life of the elderly showed a difference according to oral health education experience of the caregivers (𝜌<.001), the nursing facility evaluation grade (𝜌=.016), and the oral health education experience (𝜌=.008), working hours of 40 hours or less per week of caregivers (𝜌=.008) each in order. The influencing factors on the oral health-related quality of life of the elderly were the oral health education experience, the working hours per week of the caregivers and the facility evaluation grade. This findings imply that developing customized program and the work environment improvement for caregivers should be considered to improve the oral health-related quality of life of the elderly in nursing homes.

저소득 독거노인의 의식확장으로서의 건강연구 (A Study on Health as Expanding Consciousness of the Low-income Elderly Living Alone)

  • Purpose: This study was to explore health experiences of the low-income elderly living alone reflected in Newman's Health as expanding consciousness theory. Method: The researcher used Newman's praxis methodology because it is good for showing the process of interaction between the researcher and the low-income elderly living alone. Results: The significant characteristics of early health experience during a participant's lifetime were demonstrated that blamed themselves, being burden of themselves hopeless of their lives. However, after a turning point in health experience. The health experience of most of the participants evolved as expanding consciousness. Conclusion: This study has provided support for Newman's theory of health. Most of the participants recognized meanings in their patterns and authentic caring relationships with the nurse as researcher, pattern recognition as a nursing practice was a meaningful transforming process in the participant-nurse partnership. This participatory approach expands the scope of sharing health experience with the elderly living alone and with caring community people.

재가노인들의 무력감, 건강상태 및 인지기능에 관한 조사 연구 (A Study on the Powerlessness, Perception of Health and Cognitive Level of Elderly Home Residents)

  • This study was designed and undertaken to find out the degree of powerlessness, perception of health and cognitive level of elderly home residents and to determine the factors influencing powerlessness, perception of health and cognitive level. The data were collected from October 1st to 20th, 1998. The subjects in this study were 271 elderly home residents over the age 60 living in Taejon city. The study tool for measuring powerlessness was developed by S.E. Chung(1998), the other for measuring perception of health was a self-rating scale defined by Mossey & Shapiro (1982), and the tool for measuring cognitive level was developed by Kahn, Goldfarb, Pollack and Peck(1960). Data were analysed for percentage, mean, t-test, and ANOVA using the SPSS program. The results of this study were as follows ; 1. The degree of powerlessness, perception of health and cognitive level was scored above the median. 2. The degree of the elderly' powerlessness was statistically significantly different in three demographic variables; sex, one's state of health compared to other elderly' and living expense load. 3. Perception of one's health was statistically significantly different in four demographic variables; sex, marital status, educational level and monthly money. 4. Cognitive level of the elderly was statistically significantly different in three demographic variables; age, educational level and one's health of state compared to other elderly' health. In conclusion, the factors influencing the elderly' powerlessness, perception of health and cognitive level generally were age, sex, their economic independence, marital status, and educational level. Also, this study indicates that social welfare for the elderly could be effective in reducing their powerlessness and enhancing their health of state and cognitive level.

인천 지역 가정 거주 노인과 시설 거주 노인의 식행동 비교 연구 (A Comparative Study on the Eating Behavior in Inchon : The Elderly Living in Home and the Elderly Nursing Home)

  • This study is investigate the eating behavior between the elderly living at home and the elderly at nursing home in Inchon City. This survey was carried out by questionaires. The result are summarized as the followings: 1. Both the elderly living at home and the elderly at nursing home are not smoking and drinking. They are in good health. 2. The elderly living at home and the elderly at nursing home have diseases like neuralgia, hypertension, diabetes etc. 3. Both the elderly living at home and the elderly at nursing home have methods of health care of a regular eating and a good sleeping. The elderly at nursing home have a regular medical examination but the elderly living at home do not. 4. Health giving drugs are depression of blood pressure, a medicine for the stomach and bowels, an anodyne. And health giving sports are walking and jogging. 5. The elderly living at home and the elderly at nursing home are significant relationship on knowledge of nutrition. 6. The elderly living at home and the elderly at nursing home prefer to taste sweet, boiling, korean foods. 7. elderly living at home have meats once a week and the elderly at nursing home have twice a week. Both the elderly living at home and the elderly at nursing home have fish, fruits, vegetables twice a week. The elderly at nursing home have milks twice a week. 8. The frequency of snack intake is higher the elderly at nursing home than the elderly living at home. 9. The elderly living at home and the elderly at nursing home are satisfied their dietary life.

노인들의 건강식품 피해예방을 위한 사용실태 조사 (Investigation for health food intake to prevent damage of the elderly)

  • This research aimed to survey problems related to the elderly's purchasing trends and habitual use of health food; it was in order to effectively prevent the monetary and health damage to the elderly of health foods. In February 2006, the data were collected from 271 of the elderly people living in Goyang-si, Kyunggi-Do. The results of the study indicated: first, more than 50% of the respondents had much interest in health foods, and 42.8% of them answered they were taking health foods. Second, about 62% of 116 respondents who were taking health foods were taking one kind of them, for the purpose of maintaining and improving their health condition. Third, the major information regarding health foods was acquired from their family members, relatives and friends, or TV, radio and journals. Lastly, 75% of respondents even did not know whether there was a relief system for damage related to health foods.

독거노인과 가족동거노인의 건강상태와 건강행위 경험이 건강 관련 삶의 질에 미치는 영향: 2014 지역사회 건강조사 자료 활용 (Effects of the Health Status and Health Behavior on Health-related Quality of Life of the Elderly Living Alone and Living with Their Families: Using Data from the 2014 Community Health Survey)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify factors influencing the quality of life of the elderly living alone and living with their families with regard to their health statuses and health behavior experiences. Methods: We used source data from the 2014 Community Health Survey. The subjects of this study included some elderly people aged 65 and over, and analyzed the data of 13,373 elders living alone and 13,322 elders living with family. Results: Factors influencing the quality of life of the elderly living alone and living with their families include gender, age, education, household income, current occupation, subjective stress level, depression, number of diagnosed diseases, walking exercise, the experience of health screening, and the experience of not having necessary medical services (p<.001). Region was a significant variable influencing the quality of life of the elderly living with their families (p<.001). Conclusion: In order to improve the quality of life of the elderly, it is necessary to provide sound conditions for working, emotional support, walking exercise and promotion of health screening, and to supplement the environment and institution for them to receive necessary medical services.

The Empirical Study for Well-Being and Healthy Living of the Korean Elderly

  • The old people's feelings, emotions, and self-evaluative judgements fluctuate overtime. The purpose of this paper is to proof relations among well-being factors in social activity. Major results of this paper was as follows. First, the social activity participated elderly had higher health status, self-esteem, mental-health, and successful aging than the non-participated elderly. Second, self-esteem and mental health were exposed as important variable for all of the two groups to improve the successful aging. Thus, self-esteem and mental health can become significant indicator of self-empowering and psychological resilience. Third, the strongest total causal effect of successful aging was health status in social activity participated elderly, while self-esteem was the greatest total causal effect of it in the non-participated elderly. Health status had higher indirect effect of successful aging than direct effect of it in both of them.

춘천지역 60세 이상 노년층의 건강식품 섭취실태 조사 (A Study on the Intake Patterns of Health Food of the Elderly Aged over 60 Years in the Chuneheon Area)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the intake patterns of health food according to the kind of disease of the elderly aged over 60 years living in the Chuncheon area. This study was conducted by using a questionnaire from December 1999 to the March 2000. The data was analyzed using a SPSS program. The results were summarized as follows : The poorer the self- perceived health condition, the lower the level of activity of daily living(ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living(IADL) were the higher. the frequency score of health food intake. The incidence of disease, such as arthritis(44.7%), hypertension(18.8%), digestive diseases(17.1%), diabetes(10.5%) were found to be higher. than other chronic diseases among the elderly. The frequency score of health food intake was not significantly different according to self-perceived health status, disease status, or the level of ADL and IADl.. The must important source of information for health food intake was the recommendation of friends and relatives(68.7%). Twenty eight point two percent of the elderly considered health foods to be effective, however 8.3% of the elderly considered them to be ineffective. The elderly with chronic diseases had taken health floods in the descending order of neuralgia-arthritis, hypertension, digestive disease, diabetes. The elderly with digestive diseases, diabetes, renal disease, neuralgia- arthritis and respiratory disease were inclined to habitually take health floods once or twice per year. Intake of Korean traditional folk food was as high as intake of registered health food and Chinese tonic medicine. The most frequently taken health food was tonic medicine, which is fo11owed by pumpkin, ginseng products, herbal tea formula with black goat, deer antler and Kye-so-ju. Intakes of health food such as tonic medicine, blood of the deer, royal jelly, aloe were found to be higher among the elderly with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and digestive disease. However, intakes of ginseng products, deer antler, pumpkin, herbal tea formula with black goat and Kye-so-ju were found to be higher among the healthy elderly. The elderly with neuralgia-arthritis had taken sixteen kinds of health foods. From these results, a wide consumer education program should be developed to convince people of the importance of well-balanced diet and to choose proper health foods according to the elderly's health conditions. Also, comprehensive and scientific research into Korean traditional folk foods are needed for the correct use.
