Cultural diversity is a highly important issue in nursing education and nursing practice today. This study is a philosophical approach to the power relationship between a health care provider and a care recipient. The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationships between nurses and ethnic minority patients based on the discussions of some Foucauldian concepts that are related to cultural diversity. Based on the analysis, this study provides some suggestions for cultural competency in nursing practice.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to propose and to test a predictive model that could explain the workers' quality of life. Methods: Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 901 workers in Daejeon, Korea. The questionnaires included nine measured variables (safety culture, self-efficacy, activity of occupational health provider, knowledge in occupational health, age, health promotion behavior, workplace environment, health level, and quality of life), as revised PRECEDE model has suggested. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 15 and AMOS 6.01 version. Results: Based on the constructed model, behavior, environment, and health were found to have significant direct effect on quality of life. Indirect factors were perceived biological, predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling. The proposed model was concise and extensive in predicting quality of life of the participants. The final modified model yielded GFI=.85, AGFI=.89, NFI=.79, and RMSEA=.11 and exhibited good fit indices. Conclusion: Findings of this study may contribute to development of effective nursing interventions for promoting quality of life in workers.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and test a hypothetical model which explains health behavior adherence in elderly people with prehypertension. The model was based on self-determination theory (SDT). Methods: Data were collected from June 21 to July 15, 2010, using self-report questionnaires. The participants were 140 elders with prehypertension who lived in D Metropolitan City. Collected data were analyzed using PASW 18.0 for descriptive statistics and correlation analysis and AMOS 5.0 for covariance structure analysis. Results: It appeared that the overall fit index was good with a ${\chi}^2$ score of 13.23 (p<0.05), GFI of 0.97, AGFI of 0.79 and RMR of 0.28 in the modified model. The results revealed that significant main effects of both health provider's autonomy support and autonomous motivations were found on the measure of health behavior adherence. These factors explained 72% of variance in the participants, health behavior adherence. Conclusion: The overall findings may provide useful assistance in developing effective motivation-enhanced programs for health behavior adherence.
Purpose: To reilluminate academic fundamentals and missions of child health nursing (CHN). Methods: Critical review of literature. Results & Conclusion: The academic fundamentals of CHN were analyzed for three different basis; philosophical, theoretical, and legal & ethical basis. The philosophical basis of CHN was summarized as six beliefs; A child is an important human resource and a valuable asset for future society; A child should be respected as a unique and dignified human being; A child has his/her own unique developmental needs; A child is a vulnerable client and should be advocated for; Atraumatic care should be provided to each child; Child health care should be family-centered. The essence of the theoretical basis were reilluminated into caring theory and client advocacy theory. The legal basis of CHN was stated as pertaining to the various child-related laws and international conventions, such as UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The ethical basis were stated as 4 principles of biomedical ethics and The UNESCO Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights. The mission of the CHN was stated and the role of CHN was described as one who is a child rights advocator, professional caring service provider, policy maker, health educator, researcher.

Background: This study aimed to better understand the barriers to perinatal hepatitis B prevention and to identify the reasons for poor hepatitis B knowledge and delivery of education to hepatitis B surface-antigen-positive pregnant women among healthcare providers in Santa Clara County, California. Materials and Methods: Qualitative interviews were conducted with 16 obstetricians and 17 perinatal nurses in Santa Clara County, California, which has one of the largest populations in the United States at high risk for perinatal hepatitis B transmission. Results: Most providers displayed a lack of self-efficacy attributed to insufficient hepatitis B training and education. They felt discouraged from counseling and educating their patients because of a lack of resources and discouraging patient attitudes such as stigma and apathy. Providers called for institutional changes from the government, hospitals, and nonprofit organizations to improve care for patients with chronic hepatitis B. Conclusions: Early and continuing provider training, increased public awareness, and development of comprehensive resources and new programs may contribute to reducing the barriers for health care professionals to provide counseling and education to pregnant patients with chronic hepatitis B infection.

The proposed technique uses cyclic frame structure, where three periods such as beacon period (BP), mesh contention access period (MCAP) and slotted period (SP) are in a data frame. This paper studies on a mechanism to allow communication nodes (6lowpan) in a PAN with different logical channel for global healthcare applications monitoring technology. The proposed super framework structure system has installed 6lowpan sensor nodes to communicate with each other. The basic idea is to time share logical channels to perform 6lowpan sensor node. The concept of 6lowpan sensor node and various biomedical sensors fixed on the patient BAN (Body Area Network) for monitoring health condition. In PAN (hospital area), has fixed gateways that received biomedical data from 6lowpan (patient). Each 6lowpan sensor node (patient) has IP-addresses that would be directly connected to the internet. With the help of IP-address service provider can recognize or analyze patient data from all over the globe by the internet service provider, with specific equipments i.e. cell phone, PDA, note book. The NS-2.33 result shows the performance of data transmission delay and data delivery ratio in the case of hop count in a PAN (Personal Area Networks).

Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the reliability assessment of work environment measurement, and to propose ways of improving the system. Methods: We have reviewed reports and articles on the reliability assessment written by KOSHA and academia in order to analyze problems related with the system and propose the alternatives. Results: There are three ways to improve the system of the reliability assessment. First of all, it is necessary to perform the reliability assessment by measuring the work environment when workers raise questions about the results so we can make workers trust these results of the reliability assessment. Secondly, we should inspect the workplace at first, not the work environment service provider, so we can increase the employer's recognition of his duty to practice the work environment measurement. Thirdly, the technical committee is needed for technical issues related with the work environment measurement. Conclusions: Above all, it is crucial to get the workers' interest and trust to improve the work environment measurement. The reliability assessment should support the meaning and value of the work environment measurement by practicing the reliability assessment whenever workers have a demand for this and operating the technical committee.
