The results revealed that there are three different types on the professional nursing image. The three types were named as follows : The first type, the Improvable, consisting of 6 subjects, preferentially perceived nursing is human behavior as life process, coordinating with other health personnel for the patients as nurses' important role. On the other hand, they are taking a little dissatisfied view of professional nursing image, which can be estimated to advance for the construction of the professional nursing image. The second type, the Self-conflicted, consisting of 13 subjects, who have the subjectivity of the image by focusing on external and environmental factors rather than developing positive individual nurses' image for their profession. They have very conflic-ting and self-degrading traits. The third type, the Affirmative, consisting of 10 subjects, who appreciate the essence of nursing, and that they highly perceived nurse' positive attitude, devotion, mature interrelationship and self-developing efforts etc. In conclusion, this study discovers three types on the professional nursing image and their relationship. By identifying the nature of three types, this study suggests that the results should be useful reinforcement tool in educating nursing students as well as in continuing education for hospital nurses.

  • This study was conducted to reduce children's fat intake and to establish healthy dietary lifestyles. To achieve these goals, we searched, collected, and analyzed the materials related to the fat education, based on which the research personnel-professors and graduate students in nutrition and child education and elementary school teachers-discussed to figure out major topics, objectives, and detailed contents and activities appropriate for fat intake reduction. We also organized an advisory committee composed of 15 professionals in related fields to discuss the adequacy and validity of the specific contents. Finally, we systematically organized the contents and developed children's textbooks and teacher's guidebooks. Considering the different cognitive development stages of junior and senior elementary students we developed two different textbooks for each of them which are easy to read and understand, fun to play with lots of activities, and designed to practice into daily life. The contents cover three major topics-the concept of lipid, lipid in food, lipid in life and are composed of 6 units in total. To help teachers understand and and to instruct, teacher's guidebooks contain an overview of the education, specific information and practical guidelines for each class. We developed these education materials with the aim of lowering children's fat consumption and eventually promoting their health welfare; hopefully we expect these materials would be useful for children's nutritional education in the field.

  • Background: Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among Iranian women and mastectomy comprises 81% of surgeries for treatment of breast cancer. Mastectomy may create feelings such as deformation or impairment in patients, cause body-image disorder, and reduce sexuality and sexual activity which in turn may entail mental disorders. The study aimed to elaborate coping processes. Materials and Methods: A grounded theory method was used in conducting this study. Twenty Iranian participants undergoing mastectomy were recruited with purposive sampling. An open, semi-structured questionnaire were developed. Obtaining consent, conversations were recorded and immediately transcribed after each session. Data analysis was carried out with the constant comparative method using the Strauss Corbin approach. Results: Analyzing the collected data, the study came up with seven main categories which affected the coping process in patients with breast cancer, namely: reactions to mastectomy; loss and death contest; reconstruction of evaluation system; consent for undergoing mastectomy; reactions and troubles after loss; confrontation of loss and health; and reorganization and compatibility with changes. Conclusions: The results of the study indicated: when patients become informed of their breast cancer and the necessity of undergoing mastectomy as the treatment, they probably pass through seven categories to adapt after mastectomy. Having insight about them is likely to contribute medical personnel in leading patients to the highest degree of feeling healthy.

  • Development of infusion pumps enabled injecting medical substances continuously and automatically to patients in hospitals. However, in cases when patients encountered emergent situations when moving to other areas, no clear measures were taken. The problem is that even the lightest error in injecting medical substances could be critical to the patient. That is why we proposes a remote infusion monitoring system using wireless network and RFID technology in this paper. When a problem occurs in the infusion pump, the medical personnel are informed of their patients' emergent situation and location information via wireless network so not only can they swiftly and accurately provide medical services but also can prevent safety accidents due to infusion pumps.

  • The Family Planning Program has teen intensively implemented in Korea by the national policy since 1962. However, the desired effective results were not fully obtained by many reasons such as the shortage of qualified workers, lack of eligible women's cooperation and understanding of the importance of family planning etc., The field family planning workers is classified into two categories along the governmental personnel order; the senior field worker and the assistant field worker. The former is qualified licensed nurse and the latter same as the former of a certified nurses-aid. These family planning worker's roles are somewhat in change not only in field education, distribution of contraceptions, administrating mother's class of assistant field workers but also responsible for the senior field workers such as recording, reporting and keeping statistics. Therefor, the desired success of family planning programming in Korea depends on family planning worker's professional abilities and activities in the field. In aiming to study on professional knowledge of the above two kinds of family planning workers, the following results were obtained through a field survey with question airs done as of October, 1970 in Kyonggi-Do. 1. Working term of the family planning workers in average were less than two years. The younger the assistant Field workers were, the earlier they left job. 2. The assistant field workers selected their job in order to the superficial rather than implementing job itself. 3. Most of the workers either in the health center or in the Up-Myun had a better understanding concerning with their job ; contraceptive methods, maintenance of equipment and drug keeping, and other administrative procedures, etc., 4. They had relatively better understanding and sufficient knowledge about contraception itself and application of it's methods and side effects in detail too, but less knowledges for the care after. 5. It was hard to Find out any differences in administrative knowledge and demographic understanding. 5. It is fully agreed upon that the longer the worker have experienced with the program, the more skilful she applied. 7. The worker who had training whether pre-service or insertive are working more effectively than the untrained. 8. Data analysis included percentages, mean and standard deviation, t or F-test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. Results included the following : 1. Support came primarily from sons and daughters (90.1%) ; the type of support was primarily emotional support from friends(60.0%) ; informational support came from health personnel(81.7%) ; and material support was sons and daughters(40.0%) ; satisfaction with support was highest for the spouse(4.02$\pm$.52). 2. A questionnaire survey was conducted of 1,507 persons who were selected through a multi-stage stratified area cluster sampling in nationwide level, excluding Jeju-Do. Personal survey was conducted through door-to door survey from 27 July to 10 August 1999. The main results of this research was as following; 1. The proportion of information searching of respondents ranged from 91.5-95.2%. Even though the proportion of user in university hospital was slightly high, there was not significant statistically by type of medical institution. In terms of information source, personal informer was most common information source in all type of medical institution. Public informers were more frequently used in university hospital visitors and professional informer in general and university hospital visitors. 2. Comparing to searching intensity, user informer and professional informer's influences were more powerful, but not statistically significant. In analysis of unit influence for information source, written informer or public informer was more powerful in clinic visitor, professional informer and written informer in university hospital visitor. 3. Information which consumer want to know mostly were about on special potential and career of physician. The clinic visitor wanted to know about institutional location and kindness of medical personnel. The university hospital visitor also wanted to know about facilities and convenience of process. Comparing to institution selection criteria of consumers at 1991, quality related criteria were recognized more importantly in outpatient and dental services. But in case of inpatient services, convenience factor was recognized more importantly. In conclusion, the effort for specific marketing plan by type of medical institution should be needed. And more concern on information searching behavior of consumer will be needed.
