Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop the curriculum model for occupational health nurse specialist in Korea. Method: Internet searching was conducted to analyze the type of master program for occupational health nurses in the U. S. To identify the importance of occupational health nurse specialist (OHNS)'s role, self-administrative questionnaire survey was done to335 occupational health nurses through postal mail and continuing education in 2003. SPSSWIN 10.0 was used for data analysis. Results: In the U. S., two main types of nurse practitioner program and nurse manager program are separately operated for occupational health nurses as master level. Under the governmental support, geographical and financial barrier can be decreased through the distance learning and the appointment of regional ERC. Most occupational health nurses recognized importantly the role of OHNS as direct care provider, educator, consultant, and manager. Conclusion: It is recommended that the job standard for OHNS needs to be developed, and regulation has to be changed for the diverse curriculum based on the need of occupational health nurses, and governmental support must be strengthened for occupational health nurses to apply more easily to the program.
A study was conducted to identify the perceptions about health education competence and satisfaction of nursing profession, and the relationship between health education competency and satisfaction of nursing profession in nursing students. The subjects were 118 nursing students who were third year at a diploma course. The results of this study are as follows : 1) In domain of health education process, the highest level of competency was the need assessment of the individual health education(mean : 3.62) and the lowest level of competency was the evaluation of heath education program(mean : 2.93. 2) In domain of health education method, the level of competency was estimated ordered as counselling and interview (mean : 3.53), health campaign(mean : 3.42), demonstration(mean : 3.30), role play (mean : 3.28), group discussion (mean : 3.25), lecture(mean : 3.10). 3) In domain of health education place, the level of competency was estimated ordered as of patient education while giving individually care(mean : 3.68), at home(mean : 3.67), in the classrom(mean : 3.67), in the community(mean : 3.35), while teaching with group patients at hosital(mean : 3.30). 4) In domain of activities of health educator, the level of competency was ordered as collaborator(mean : 3.59), coordinator(mean : 3.31), material developer(mean 3.14), program evaluator(mean : 3.13), program designer(mean 3.10). 5) Health education competency was found to be significantly related to satisfaction of professional nursing.

This study was attempted to secure basic data for planning an efficient educational direction by phenomenologically analyzing what they experience as educators by allowing learners to plan and conduct education directly. Participants in the study were eight who voluntarily expressed their intention to participate in the study after taking health education classes between the ages of 20 and 30. Interviews for the study were conducted three times per participant from December 18, 2023 to January 5, 2024, and took an average of 1 hour or more per session. The meaning of the experience of actually carrying out health education derived from Giorgi's phenomenological analysis procedure consists of 5 components(difficult and lacking, confusion and burden, regretful, change, oppurtinity), 11 sub-components, and 37 semantic units. What stands out from the experience of directly teaching is that the participants gained confidence as educators. Based on the results of this study, in order to achieve efficient education, it is suggested to allow learners to conduct classes directly.
Purpose: This study aimed to describe a school health teacher's experience working in a mountain village during the COVID-19 outbreak in 2021. Methods: The study used a case study method based on the school records and reports to the local office of education. Results: In T City, since the first COVID-19 case confirmed on March 8, 2020, as of May 17, 21, a total of 21 cases have occurred, including two third-year students of H Middle School. Since then, one additional case was confirmed on May 18, one more on May 25, and one more on May 27, resulting in a total of five confirmed cases. During this period, 42 students and 13 teachers were self-quarantined, all students and staff were tested for COVID-19 PCR, and students received remote classes. The role of school health teacher can be described through three categories: "collaborator", "care coordinator", and "educator". The school health teacher did a lot of work until the situation came to an end, successfully fulfilling these three roles. Conclusion: Some suggestions were made to prepare a more effective communicable disease response system suitable for public health infrastructure of non-urban area.
The purpose of this study was to determine appropriate training content and methods for a health educational program for rural people by analysing data collected through a structured interview survey with the rural people of Kangwha county in June, 1987, The variables analyzed for the educational content were the diseases of greatest concern and the most urgent health problems, and for the educational methods, the health educator, place of education and types of educational media were analyzed. The results are as follows: 1. The disease of greatest concerned was gastroenteritis(22.6%), followed by diabetes(13.7%), and hepatitis (10.2%). The respondents with old age and less education were more concerned with arthritis, and those with higher education were more concerned with diabetes. 2. The most urgent health problem was agricultural chemical poisoning(46%), followed by smoking(12.8%), and the lack of balance between meals and nutrition(8.8%). The people with less education and with higher income were less concerned with agricultural chemical poisoning and smoking. 3. Of the respondents, 77.4% wanted to be educated by physicians and the village auditorium was the most preferred place of education. Education in a lecture format was desired by 36.3% of respondents. Personal counselling was more preferred by old and less educated people, and people with higher education preferred printed matters.
Purpose: To reilluminate academic fundamentals and missions of child health nursing (CHN). Methods: Critical review of literature. Results & Conclusion: The academic fundamentals of CHN were analyzed for three different basis; philosophical, theoretical, and legal & ethical basis. The philosophical basis of CHN was summarized as six beliefs; A child is an important human resource and a valuable asset for future society; A child should be respected as a unique and dignified human being; A child has his/her own unique developmental needs; A child is a vulnerable client and should be advocated for; Atraumatic care should be provided to each child; Child health care should be family-centered. The essence of the theoretical basis were reilluminated into caring theory and client advocacy theory. The legal basis of CHN was stated as pertaining to the various child-related laws and international conventions, such as UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The ethical basis were stated as 4 principles of biomedical ethics and The UNESCO Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights. The mission of the CHN was stated and the role of CHN was described as one who is a child rights advocator, professional caring service provider, policy maker, health educator, researcher.
Purpose: This study examined the definition of care coordination, and the activities and roles of nurse care coordinators. The study also proposed suggestions for establishing and expanding the role of nurse care coordinators in community health practice. Methods: This study derived its conclusions by conducting a literature review. Results: The definition of care coordination is a comprehensive concept that includes case management and transitional care, and can be summarized as organizer and integrator of care. According to the literature review, 12 activities and 6 roles of nurse care coordinator were identified such as a collaborator, an individualized care planer, an educator/counselor, a direct nursing care providers, a population care coordinator, and a program evaluator. Training for nurse care coordinators is currently addressed in the Primary Medical Chronic Disease Management Program. Visiting nurses working at the Eupyeong-dong visiting health and welfare service are expected to act as nurse care coordinators, and the role of nurse care coordinators will, in the future, gradually increase in various nursing facilities. Conclusion: In addition to developing competencies to act as a nurse care coordinator, there is need for approaches to health policy that develop both independent role and population focused role as care coordinators.
Purpose: Diabetes Self Management Behavior (DSMB) is crucial for the elderly with diabetes to prevent diabetes complications and to improve their quality of life. The Purposes of this study were to investigate the current status of DSMB and to identify motivational factors related to DSMB in community dwelling older adults with diabetes. Methods: The subjects were 150 diabetic elderly who visited 2 community senior centers in S city. DSMB scale consisted of 5 sub-domains; Being active, healthy eating, regular medication, glucose monitoring, and foot care rated by a scale with a range of 0 to 7. Personal motivation(i.e., intention to behavior) and social motivation including family support and health professional support were measured. Results: The mean score of DSMB was 4.27. The mean score of intention to behavior was 2.52. DSMB was related to Intention to behavior (r=.461, p<.001), family support (r=.342, p<.001), and health professional support (r=.284, p<.001). In regression analysis, a total of 33.4% of variance in DSMB was accounted for by intention to behavior, family support, and health professional support. Conclusion: To improve DSMB of the elderly, diabetes educator should consider on the strategies across both personal and social motivation related to DSMB.

Modern society needs health professionals who are equipped with new knowledge and information to correspondence with various Health Problems, such as the appearing and disappearing of new contagious diseases, problems of improper health barriers for foreign products, health problems from poverty and also health inequalities are known to be rising. Globalization has induced new needs for Health Professional manpower. After the Ottawa Charter, international society is training and utilizing Health Education Specialists as the propulsive core member of the Health Promotion Era. And also society now expects and requests the activities of Health Education Professionals as a group effort, not only in their own countries, but also across the barriers of international society. Health Professionals are working in WHO, UNICEF KOICA or other international organizations. Especially England and USA are utilizing Health Education Professionals in Health Planning and Education Work to keep up with Health Promotion Era. Now, we need to establish ideal and proper strategies in Health Promotion Work, as a one of the pioneer countries to lead Internationalization. To accomplish this task, Health Education Specialists should be well utilized in the field of Health Promotion Work, such as communities, schools, industrial sites and international health organizations.
This paper reviewed present status of school health program in Korea to seek. The improvement of health of school children. The results are summarized from reviewing publications of school health and survey data from trainees for principals of primary and middle school at Korea National University of Education during Jun. 17 to Aug. 13, 1987. The major recommandations for the improvement of school health program in Korea of this study are as follow: 1. Reformation of School Health Organization It is hard to activate effective school health program without reformation of school health organization in the Ministry of Education. School health section in MOE should be reorganized for the planning, operation and evaluation of school health program. School health committee in MOE and Provincial Board of Education should be established by the health and education professions. 2. Appointment of school physician and recruitment of school nurse: School health center in Office of City/Gun Education should be established for increasing the utilization of school physician, and school nurse should be appointed for 3 - 4 schools in same area. 3. Improvement of school health education: 1) Curricula of physical education of teachers College/University should be rearrangement for school health education. 2) Role of school nurse as a health educator in school should be extented. 3) In-service training for health education should be done for teachers of physical education. 4) Professional health teacher should be trained independently from physical education in College of Education and Teachers College. 4. Revision of school health law and regulations: Present school health law and regulations should be revised by the recommendations of experts on school health.
