Objectives: To compare the health behaviors of widowed women with those of currently married women. Methods: We randomly sampled the subjects from the Jeollanamdo Resident Registration Data and we then selected 2,331 widowed women and 4,775 married women. Well-trained examiners measured the height, weight, blood pressure and abdomen circumference, and the women were interviewed with using a questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis was used to estimate the odds ratios(OR) of the two groups. Results: The smoking rate (OR=2.46; 95% confidence interval [CI]1.65, 3.66) was significantly higher for the widowed women. On the contrary, the awareness rate of a smoking cessation campaign (OR=0.80; 95% CI=0.70, 0.92), a quit tobacco telephone line (OR=0.73; 95% CI =0.61, 0.88) and a quit smoking clinic (OR=0.74; 95% CI=0.62, 0.89) were lower for the widowed women. The rate of receiving a health exam (OR=0.80; 95% CI=0.70, 0.91), the rate of undergoing gastric cancer screening (OR=0.77; 95% CI=0.68, 0.88), breast cancer screening (OR=0.79; 95% CI=0.69, 0.89), cervix cancer screening in the last 2 years (OR=0.81; 95% CI=0.71, 0.92), colon cancer screening in the last 5 years (OR=0.74; 95% CI=0.63, 0.87) were significantly lower for the widowed women. Conclusions: This study revealed that the health behaviors are significantly different between the widowed women and the married women. To improve the health behaviors of the widowed women, further study and research that will investigate the socioeconomic and environmental factors that affect the health behaviors of widowed women will be needed.
The purpose of this study was to compare regional differences in salty taste assessments, nutrition knowledge, dietary attitudes and dietary behaviors associated with high-salt diets in four national regions in Korea (Region 1: Seoul, Sokcho, Region 2: Buyeo, Jecheon, Gong Ju, Region 3: Daegu, Gyeongsan, Region 4: Jeon Ju). Subjects were 860 persons who participated in sodium reduction campaign. The result of the salty taste assessment by region was not significantly different. The nutrition knowledge score of subjects in Region 1 was the highest. Dietary attitude scores that showed preference for high-salt diets of Region 2 and Region 4 subjects were higher than those of Regions 1 and 3 subjects (p < 0.001). Dietary behavior scores were not significantly different among regions. The correlation between sodium intake and salty taste assessment was significant (p < 0.01). Older subjects who had high blood pressure levels and lower nutrition knowledge were more likely to have high sodium intakes. Even though the salty taste assessment and dietary behavior scores by region were not significantly different, the salty taste assessment scores had a significant negative correlation with nutrition knowledge and had a significant positive correlation with dietary attitude and dietary behavior in terms of preference for high-salt diets. Therefore, nationwide education regarding salt intake reduction and health and a campaign to encourage favorable attitudes and behavioral changes regarding consumption of a no-salt / low-salt diet is needed.

This study examined the effects of a non-smoking program according to the stress and emotional condition of male office workers. As research subjects, 106 smokers at C company who participated in the campaign of "No Second-Hand Smoking and No Cigarette Smoke at Work" from April 25, 2011 to December, 2011 for 8 months were enrolled in this study. Apreliminary survey of the general characteristics, motivation to quit smoking, emotional condition, behavior to cope with stress, stress in life, hope, and the emotional variables of job satisfaction in the research subjects was carried out. The study undertook a pre-and-post effect analysis of the non-smoking program only with those who succeeded in quitting smoking. In terms of the general characteristics of the subjects, the success rate of quitting smoking was higher in those in their thirties and above and those who were married. No significant difference in the emotional variables was observed between those who were not successful and those who were. These results suggest that the motives for stopping smoking and effective dealing with stress or anxiety is important for male office workers to succeed in stopping smoking, based on which smoking cessation programs should be developed. In addition, the message of a smoking cessation campaign should be designed specifically for each target audience, effectively emphasizing the emotional aspects of each target group.

Background: The aim of this study was to increase knowledge regarding the dangers associated with tobacco use, and decrease secondhand smoke exposure and tobacco use behaviors with an antitobacco messaging campaign among rural, medically underserved, blue-collar workers. Methods: A quasiexperimental study was conducted with employees at two worksites. One worksite received the intervention, which consisted of nine different antitobacco messages. Baseline and follow-up surveys were conducted at each worksite to assess change in knowledge and behavior; the data were compared across the two worksites. Results: Two hundred twenty-two and 243 participants completed baseline and follow-up surveys at the intervention and comparison sites, respectively. A statistically significant difference was seen over time between the worksites on knowledge of the dangers of tobacco (p < 0.0001); the mean knowledge score increased at the intervention site, but remained unchanged at the comparison site. In general, non-smokers at both worksites appeared to try to decrease exposure to secondhand smoke over the follow-up period. Repeated measures analysis indicated that there were no differences in motivation to quit (p = 0.81), interest in quitting (p = 0.40), thinking about quitting (p = 0.53), or several tobacco-use behaviors over time among smokers at the intervention and comparison worksites. There were slight increases over time in the proportion of smokers who do not allow smoking in their homes/vehicles at the intervention worksite, although not statistically significant. Conclusion: Participants at the intervention worksite increased their knowledge regarding the dangers of tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure. Among current tobacco users, the intervention appeared to increase family rules regarding secondhand smoke exposure in their homes and vehicles.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the image and the awareness of dental laboratory technicians in health allied college students. Methods: The subject of this research are 431 health-related major students who are selected by convenience sampling from Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do and Gyeongsang-do. After a survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 401 respondents were analyzed except for 30 incomplete ones. The collected data is statistically analyzed by SPSS(Statistical Packages for Social Science 12.0. SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Results: The findings of the study were as follows: As a result of general awareness about dental laboratory technicians, the health allied college students knew 83.0% about dental laboratory technician as a job. Respondents showed high recognition about dental laboratory technician as a job($3.62{\pm}0.31$), which showed that the health allied college students took a favorable view of dental laboratory in general. There were significant difference in dental laboratory technician image with age, gender(P<.05). Conclusion: It is required to develop programs such as proactive public relations or campaign via mass media that could enhance the public recognition about dental laboratory technician up to one of professional as required. It is also necessary that dental laboratory technicians make steady efforts for self-development to enhance their own job philosophy and skills in the level of quality, while they need various educations for building up their own favorable personality and positive ideas.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate usage of earplones, PCPs, and to give the basic data for adolescent's hearing health education. The study was a descriptive research about three factors affecting hearing loss; the knowledge and attitude about noise, the perception of hearing loss. Method: For research purposes, we conducted a questionnaire survey of 1,480 high school students in Suwon, from 27 October 2007 to 31 2007. Result: Most of the subjets used PCPs for 3-5 years, the average time of using earphones per day was 1-3 hours, awake hearing acuity decrease after using is the hearing acuity became worse some, PCPs type is MP3, use place house, listening contents ballade, disorder condition experience after using if the ear it is sick. The average of concern about hearing scored the highest 3.01${\pm}$0.54. The average of perceived susceptibility scored 3.04${\pm}$0.63 and the average of knowledge about noise scored 2.76${\pm}$0.46. The average of total knowledge and attitude about noise scored 2.93${\pm}$0.52. The average of discomfort of hearing loss(2.20${\pm}$0.63) scored higher than that fear of hearing loss(1.66${\pm}$0.30). The average of total perception of hearing loss scored 2.12${\pm}$0.67. Conclusion: At least in this study are shown in the youth earphone, PCPs used as a spare because of the seriousness of the issue, so as a result of these problems related to hearing about the youth campaign, through advertising or seriousness of the young people need them. In addition, countries also need to create policies and the support for health education, especially during the regular curriculum subjects on subjects that include teenagers in the earphone, PCPs due to problems with spare on the contents of the reservoir. Purpose: To examine the outcomes of a smoking cessation clinic at a public health center, in Hwasung city in 2006 and to examine the perceptions of the users regarding the clinic services. Method: 620 smokers who visited the smoking cessation clinic from January, 2006 to November, 2006 were enrolled. An instrument developed by the researcher was used to collect their perceptions. The instrument comprised 24 questions, on a 5-point Likert scale investigating the clinic services in terms of counseling time, environment, readiness of the counselors, counseling information, campaign method, medication use, and follow-up services. The general characteristics of the participants were collected from the database developed by the Ministry of Health & Welfare. The data were analyzed with frequencies, percentage, mean and standard deviation methods. Results: The outcomes of the smoking cessation clinic in Hwasung city in 2006 showed some limitations in terms of low-income group, female smokers, and young adult smokers. Conclusion: Strategies for solving these limitations were necessary to increase the effectiveness of the smoking cessation clinic. Clinic services focused on cognitive-behavioral therapy needed to be developed in accordance with chemotherapy. More effective publicizing campaigns of the clinic services also needed to be developed for more people to know about the clinic. Strategies to increase the accessibility for the people living far from the clinic were also necessary. Assessment of the smokers who did not visit clinic was also recommended in order to determine their intentions, or barriers to visit the clinic.
Background: Head and neck cancer (HNC) is one of the deadliest cancers worldwide. Early detection is a key determinant of HNC prognosis. Hence, raising awareness of this disease may improve survival rates. The present study evaluated the level of awareness and screening status for HNC in the general population of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: An e-questionnaire was distributed during our HNC awareness campaign at the Red Sea Mall in Jeddah. The questions assessed HNC knowledge and screening status among participants. Results: Of the 112 respondents, 68% indicated that they had no knowledge of HNC. Social media was the major source of information (39%) for respondents. The majority (40%) believed that it was the joint responsibility of dentists, dental hygienists, and general physicians to screen for HNC; 82% had never been screened. Conclusions: Knowledge and awareness of HNC must be increased in the general population and among dental health professionals.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness and actual condition toward nonsmoking policy in Korean adult. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 306 Korean adults between 20 to 60 years old from April 27 to May 26, 2015. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, smoking status(3 items), nonsmoking status(9 items), and nonsmoking policy(7 items). Data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program. Results: Those who had alcohol consumption or not tried to participated in the nonsmoking program(p<0.05). There was a significant difference between nonsmoking education, cost of the nonsmoking education, and intention to stop smoking. Alcohol consumption is closely related to smoking and the appropriate approach to nonsmoking campaign must be done carefully on the basis of intention to stop smoking(p<0.05). Conclusions: As the government prohibits smoking in the public place, it is important the smokers to stop smoking by themselves and help the smokers to practice nonsmoking in their free will.
Using the most up-to-date system identification methods in both time and frequency domains, the dynamic monitoring data from the reinforced concrete Egebaekvej Bridge near Holte, Denmark, is examined in this investigation. The bridge was erected in the 1960s and was still standing during test campaign before demolishing. The ARTeMIS Modal was adopted to derive the modal parameters from ambient vibration data. Several Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) approaches were applied, including Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition (EFDD), Curve-fit Frequency Domain Decomposition (CFDD), and Frequency Domain Decomposition (FDD). Afterward, Principal Component (SSI-PC), Unweighted Principal Component (SSI-UPC) Stochastic Subspace Identification methods were utilized.
