Objectives : This paper studies the Tangaek-Unhoei(湯液韻彙) index of herbal medicine in the Inje-Ji(仁濟志) of the Imwon-Gyeongje-Ji(林園經濟志), which contains about 4,800 formulas. Created by 19th-century Joseon scholar Seo, Yugu, it not only lists the formulas according to their names, but also provides index by topic, which enabled the collection and effective application of massive medical information. Methods : We quantitatively examined the nearly 4,800 herbal medicines in the Tangaek-Unhoei and their categorization. Any uncommon or particular categorization was examined further by analyzing the original text. Results & Conclusions : The prescriptions contained in the Inje-Ji are categorized under 26 headings. They are listed according to the 106 units of the Chinese character dictionary and organized by double headings. This unique index makes it easy to browse the contents of such a vast book containing massive medicinal knowledge. In addition, the fifty or so remedies called 'Fang(方)' exemplify the author's attitude toward medicinal knowledge, which is both rational and inclusive. This is an attitude that should be recognized beyond tradition.

The purpose of this study is to understand the direction of the community reading campaign in the U.S.A. known as 'One Book, One City' reflected in the books selected for this campaign for the past 20 years in terms of their classification numbers, subject headings, publication dates, and genres. Analyzed are the author and state lists of 'One Book, One City' Reading Promotions Projects available from the website of the LC (Library of Congress) Center for the Books, and bibliographic records of 735 books selected in only one 'One Book' program, accessed from LC OPAC. Major findings include continuing influences of the all-time favorite 'One Book' selections, including To Kill a Mockingbird and the extension of their span of life through The Big Read, preference for the recent publications, importance of P (Literatures and Languages) Class (530 titles, 72.1%) and PS(American Literatures) subclass (307 titles, 57.9%) in the LC Classification Scheme, distribution of books in 43 genres, including domestic fiction, historical fiction, and psychological fiction, etc., the use of 535 unique LC subject headings and much interests in "City and town life" (10 titles) and "World War, 1939-1945" (8 titles), and prominence of subject groups which begin with "African American..." and "Woman..." out of 96 groups of subject headings. It is found that the subjects and focus of the selected books expand from integration, understanding, integrity to human rights, environment, peace, etc. The limitations of this study is that the influence of the selected books and the changes in communities are not properly analyed.

The study examines the research trends of doctoral dissertations in Library Science and Information Science published in the U.S. for the last 5 years. Data collected from PQDT Global includes 1,016 doctoral dissertations containing "Library Science" or "Information Science" as subject headings, and keywords extracted from those dissertations were used for a network analysis, which helps identifying the intellectual structure of the dissertations. Also, the analysis using 103 subject heading keywords resulted in various centrality measures, including triangle betweenness centrality and nearest neighbor centrality, as well as 26 clusters of associated subject headings. The most frequently studied subjects include computer-related subjects, education-related subjects, and communication-related subjects, and a cluster with information science as the most central subject contains most of the computer-related keywords, while a cluster with library science as the most central subject contains many of the education-related keywords. Other related subjects include various user groups for user studies, and subjects related to information systems such as management, economics, geography, and biomedical engineering.

This research was conducted to analyze the actual condition of data related to Korea shown in the catalog of 15 countries. This study was to compare the subject characteristics of Korea-related subject heading, record collection, and the characteristics of several subject heading, which has been a major issue. The results are as follows. To begin with, Korea-related record in most other national libraries runs absolutely short except for some countries like United States. Korea-related record is generally 2 to 3 times less than Japan related record. Second, referring to the subject distribution in sub criteria of Korea-related record, subject related to 'history' and 'economy' is shown in the highest rate. Considering that 'Korean war' shows the highest rate in Italy and Canada, we can consider that this may cause the distortion of the perception of Korea. Third, in the case of Korea-related record, the record of South Korea is 1.5 to 5 times more than that of North Korea, except for some countries like United States. Forth, regarding the subject headings, the terms such as 'Taekwondo', 'Kimchi', 'Tok-do', 'Tong-hae' have different meanings in different countries. However, these terms agree to LCSH in most countries except for neighboring countries. Fifth, in case of China and Japan, the subject headings in reference to political and historical position are raising some problems.

Based on the analysis of the NDL authority system, this study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of subject authorities related to Korea in the NDL. The results are as follows. First, NDL subject authorities related to Korea are 3,143 in total including 2,205 headings and 938 subdivisions. Among them, social sciences accounted for more than half with 52.4%, and economics by individual discipline accounted for the most with 552 cases, 17.6%. Second, most of the subject headings of historical events caused by or directly related to Japan are described from the Japanese perspective, and terms familiar to Korea are mainly described in reference, not in heading. Third, subject headings representing Korean characteristics or historical events are considerably lacking or nondescript. Forth, when referring the name of the country, the term 'Joseon (朝鮮)' continues to be used to refer to both South and North Korea; however, it is necessary to subdivide the history after 1948 which includes the era of the 'Republic of Korea' and the 'Democratic People's Republic of Korea'. Using the term Joseon to refer North and South Korea may cause the reader to perceive Korea as persisting in the Joseon Dynasty. Furthermore, while 'Balhae (渤海)' is regarded as Chinese history, it is a part of Korean history and should be added to the Korean historical periods.

본 논문은 온라인목록시대에 돌입한 오늘날 정보자료를 찾고자 하는 이용자들의 접근점이 되는 표목이 어떻게 변천되어 왔는지를 KCR과 AACR을 중심으로 살펴보고, 현행규칙을 체계적으로 분석하여 문제점을 파악하여, 온라인환경에서 표목을 어떻게 규정할 것인지 미래에 어떠한 변화가 예견되는지를 고찰하여 온라인환경에서의 한국편목규칙의 표목부에 합리적으로 적용될 수 있는 구체적인 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

색인작성 모형을 구축하는데 필요한 기초적인 자료로서 색인표목 선정을 목차와 결부시켜 고찰하였다. 색인길이는 본문의 3%이고, 네 개 이하의 참조 수를 갖는 색인어는 95.8%이며, 목차항목이 색인에 출현한 도서는 100%이었다. 계층표목을 갖는 분석색인에 계층적 목차항목의 50%가 준용되었고, 목차의 고유어는 거의 색인어에 올랐다. 주절과 주어 등 문법상 주제적인 위치에 있는 단어와 구들이 다수 색인표목으로 선정되어 앞으로 목차항목 등과의 상호관련에 대한 연구가 진행되어야 할 것으로 사려된다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the distinctiveness and problem areas in cataloging rules of sound recordings. In this study, therefore, the characteristics and kinds of sound recordings and the cataloging rules related to sound recordings in non-book cataloging rules are examined first as the backgrounds. Then the sources of information, general material designation, physical description, choice of headings, and uniform titles in ISBD(NBM)·AACR2R·AECT4 and KORMARC(NBM) are analyzed. And the special issues and some problems to be considered in cataloging of sound recordings are presented.

본 논문의 목적은 한국자료의 세계적인 종정을 위해 한국단체명표목형태 및 선택상의 문제점들을 영$\cdot\$미목록규칙과 파리목록원칙을 중심으로 검토하여 이에 대한 해결책을 제시하므로써 한국단체명표목의 전거파일 형성에 도움이 될 수 있는 기틀을 마련하는데 있다. 두 부분으로 구성된 본 논문의 첫째 부분에서는 단체명표목의 정당성을 제목록규칙의 변경과정의 점토를 통해 입증하였으며, 둘께 부분에서는 한국단체명표목형태 및 선택상의 제 문제들을 기존 목록규칙과 편목관례를 중심으로 검토하여 합리적이고 실용성 있는 한국단체명표목형태를 제시하였다.

Target pointing guidance steers a vehicle to point at a target point at a given range Rs. In this paper, vehicle's motions relative to the target point are modeled by differential equations. Then a target pointing guidance law is derived using optimal control theories. In addition, it is shown that the proposed guidance law can achieve the goal of target pointing guidance whatever initial headings are.
