  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to observe office workers' postural behaviors during computer work to identify the risk factors for head and thorax postural behaviors. Methods: The participants included 57 office workers who worked longer than 20 hours on a computer. Postural behaviors during computer work were measured using 3-D wearable motion sensors on the forehead and sternum. A multivariate linear regression model evaluated the association between various risk factors (neck pain, demographics, and environmental factors) and non-head and thorax postural behaviors. Results: The participants maintained their head and thorax in neutral postures (defined as 10° extension~10° flexion and 5° extension~10° flexion, respectively) for 24.7% and 39.3% of the total recorded time. Those who reported neck pain at the measurement of postural behaviors showed less time spent in thorax postures. Current neck pain, high desk height, and the distance between the keyboard and the edge of the desk (cm) were found to be related to less time spent in a neutral thorax posture. Conclusion: Office environment factors and current neck pain might affect workers' thorax postures, which might also determine the orientation of head postures during computer work.

  • Purpose : Purpose of this study was to investigate whether cervicothoracic posture was associated with scapula orientation and muscle activity during shoulder abduction. Methods : Cervicothoracic junction angle and thoracic kyphosis angle were measured in health twenty subjects. Then, scapular resting orientation and range of motion (upward/downward rotation, internal/external rotation) and muscle activity (upper trapezius, lower trapezius, serratus anterior) was determined using motion capture system and surface electromyography while subjects performed shoulder abduction. Results : Cervicothoracic junction angle was significantly associated with range of motion of scapular internal/external rotation during shoulder abduction. Thoracic kyphosis angle was significantly associated with scapular resting orientation of upward/downward rotation and average IEMG of lower trapezius. Conclusion : The result of this study shows that poor cervicothoracic posture is relationship with altered scapular kinematics cause of shoulder dysfunction. These findings suggested that cervicothoracic posture may be considered in occupation and exercise including arm elevation over head as well as used as predict factor to estimate shoulder dysfunction.

  • Magnesium thin films for marine engine parts such as the engine block and the cylinder head cover etc. were prepared on the magnesium alloy(AZ91D) substrate by Thermo-electron activated Ion-plating method. The influence of gas pressure and substrate bias voltages on the crystal orientation and morphology of the films was investigated with X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM), respectively. Moreover, the effect of crystal orientation and morphology of the magnesium films on the its hardness property was investigated as well. From the results, the hardness of the films was increased in Ar gas pressure due to the grain boundary strengthening and occlusion effects.

  • Iris recognition is a biometric technology which can identify a person using the iris pattern. It is important for the iris recognition system to extract the feature which is invariant to changes in iris patterns. Those changes can be occurred by the influence of lights, changes in the size of the pupil, and head tilting. This paper is appropriate for the embedded environment using local gradient histogram embedded system using iris feature extraction methods have implement. The proposed method enables high-speed feature extraction and feature comparison because it requires no additional processing to obtain the rotation invariance, and shows comparable performance to the well-known previous methods.

  • EEG(Electroencephalography) is generated by electrical activity between neurons in cortical. Waveform of EEG is changed according to body and mental states. Therefore EEG is used to diagnosis of encephalophyma and epilepsy, etc. Also EEG is used to HCI(Human-Computer Interface). This paper describes estimation of orientation and location of dipole sources. The forward model is three-layer spherical head model and current dipole model. Using analytical solution, EEG is generated. Using MNLS(Minimum-Norm Least-Square) method, orientation and location of dipole moment is estimated.

  • For weapon cueing and Head-Mounted Display (HMD), it is essential to continuously estimate the motion of the helmet. The problem of estimating and predicting the position and orientation of the helmet is approached by fusing measurements from inertial sensors and stereo vision system. The sensor fusion approach in this paper is based on nonlinear filtering, especially expended Kalman filter(EKF). To reduce the computation time and improve the performance in vision processing, we separate the structure estimation and motion estimation. The structure estimation tracks the features which are the part of helmet model structure in the scene and the motion estimation filter estimates the position and orientation of the helmet. This algorithm is tested with using synthetic and real data. And the results show that the result of sensor fusion is successful.

  • Purpose: This study sought to investigate the effects of visual cue deprivation balance training by applying head control feedback to the balance function and the fall index in older people. Methods: The study was conducted on 26 older people at the S Hospital in Gyeongsansi. The patients were randomly divided into the experimental groupI (EGI, n=9), the experimental groupII (EGII, n=9), and the control group (CG, n=8). The three groups were trained for 30 minutes three times a week for four weeks. To assess the patients' static balance function, their limits of stability (LOS) was measured using the BioRescue system, (RM Ingenierie, France), composed of a pressure platform that can measure force in diverse ways, a computer, and a monitor. The dynamic balance function was measured using the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). Also, the fall index was measured to evaluate the risk of falling. A paired t-test was performed to compare pre- and post-training performance within the groups. One-way ANOVA was performed for comparing the three groups. A post hoc least significant difference (LSD) test was also performed. Results: The results of the LOS showed a significant difference after training in the EGI and EGII groups (p<0.05). As a result of the difference between the three groups, there was a significant difference after training (p<0.05). The results of the BBS showed a significant difference after training in the EGI group (p<0.05). As a result of the difference between the three groups, there was a significant difference after training (p<0.05). Conclusion: Visual cue deprivation balance training applying head control feedback is effective in improving the dynamic balance function in older people. It is also necessary to constantly maintain the head orientation by feedback and to properly control the head movement.

  • YBa$_2$Cu$_3$$O_{7-x}$ thin films for coated conductor application were deposited on a MgO single crystalline substrate by a metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) system of a vertical type using a single liquid source. The film uniformity was enhanced by controlling the gas shower head structure, the distance between the shower head and substrate, and the rotation of the substrate. The source mole ratio of Y(thd)$_3$: Ba(thd)$_2$: Cu(thd)$_2$ was changed for obtaining stoichiometric film. The phase formation, crystal orientation, surface morphology and film composition were investigated with different source mole ratios, and the critical temperature (T$_{c}$) was measured.red.

  • Anisotropic conductive film(ACF) bonding is widely used for making fine interconnections between two different materials where soldering is not easily applicable. There are three constraints for the successful implementation of ACF bonding. A bonding contact should be pressed by a hot head with the right pressure and temperature for a pre-defined curing time. In this paper, a method for ACF bonding based on machine vision system is proposed and verified through some experiments. The system calculates the position and orientation of printed circuit boards(PCBs) on a bonding table and estimates the optimal hitting point where the hot head should be applied. Experimental results show that the proposed system achieves better adhesive strength by providing head flatness over contact surfaces.
