  • Background and Objectives: Many studies have reported no benefit of sound localization, but improved speech understanding in noise after treating patients with single-sided deafness (SSD). Furthermore, their performances provided a large individual difference. The present study aimed to measure the ability of speech perception and gap detection in noise for the SSD patients to better understand their hearing nature. Subjects and Methods: Nine SSD patients with different onset and period of hearing deprivation and 20 young adults with normal hearing and simulated conductive hearing loss as the control groups conducted speech perception in noise (SPIN) and Gap-In-Noise (GIN) tests. The SPIN test asked how many presented sentences were understood at the +5 and -5 dB signal-to-noise ratio. The GIN test was asked to find the shortest gap in white noise with different lengths in the gap. Results: Compared to the groups with normal hearing and simulated instant hearing loss, the SSD group showed much poor performance in both SPIN and GIN tests while supporting central auditory plasticity of the SSD patients. Rather than a longer period of deafness, the large individual variance indicated that the congenital SSD patients showed better performance than the acquired SSD patients in two measurements. Conclusions: The results suggested that comprehensive assessments should be implemented before any treatment of the SSD patient considering their onset time and etiology, although these findings need to be generalized with a large sample size.

  • Mobile Ad Hoc Network is easy to be attacked because nodes are distributed not network based infrastructure. Intrusion detection system perceives the trust values of neighboring nodes and receives inspection on local security of nodes and observation ability. This study applied clustering mechanism to reduce overhead in intrusion detection. And, in order to measure the trust values, it associates the trust information cluster head received from member nodes with its own value and evaluates the trust of neighboring nodes. Secure data transmission is received by proposed concept because the trust of nodes on network is achieved accurately.

  • In this study, a noncontact laser ultrasonic system is proposed for rail defect detection. An Nd-Yag pulse laser is used for generation of ultrasonic waves, and the corresponding ultrasonic responses are measured by a laser Doppler vibrometer. For the detection of rail surface damages, the shape of the excitation laser beam is transformed into a line. On the other hand, a point source laser beam is used for the inspection of defects inside a rail head. Then, the interactions of propagating ultrasonic waves with defects are examined using actual rail specimens. Amplitude attenuation was mainly observed for a surface crack, and reflections were most noticeable from an internal damage. Finally, opportunities and challenges associated with real-time rail inspection from a high-speed train are discussed.

  • In a heated rolling process of a steel mill where steel plates are pressed to a sheet coil by spreading and expanding, an irregularly-shaped head portion as well as a tail portion of the sheet coil need to be cropped. Any crop which is not clearly cut and separated from the sheet coil may cause critical damages to the facilities of the following processes. As the cropping process is performed very fast, human eyes are not proper for continuous monitoring of the cropping process. To solve this problem, we have developed a machine-vision based crop-drop detection system. The system also measures lengths of major and minor axes for the crops and thereby determines the proper crop size to minimize steel sheet losses.

  • In this paper, we first studied the factors affecting the motor current (MC) signal, which was strongly affected by the systematic hardware noises depending on polishing such as pad conditioning and arm oscillation of platen and recipe, head motor. Next, we studied the end point detection (EPD) for the chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process of shallow trench isolation (STI) with reverse moat structure. The MC signal showed a high amplitude peak in the fore part caused by the reverse meal. pattern. We also found that the EP could not be detected properly and reproducibly due to the pad conditioning effect, especially when conventional low selectivity slurry was used. Even when there was no pad conditioning effect, the EPD method could not be applied, since the measured end points were always the same due to the characteristics of the reverse moat structure with an open nitride layer.

  • Robust pitch estimation is an important study in many areas of speech processing. In voice pathology, diverse statistics extracted form pitch were commonly used to test voice quality. In this study, we compared several established pitch detection algorithms (PDAs) for verification of adequacy of the PDAs. In the database of total pathological voices of 99 and normal voices of 30, an analysis of errors related with pitch detection was evaluated between pathological and normal voices, or among the types of pathological voices such as benign vocal fold lesions; polyp, nodule, and cysts. Consequently, it is required to survey the severity of tested voice in order to obtain accurate pitch estimates.

  • This paper describes the system for detecting the tank crew's(loader's) hand, arm, head and the upper half of the body in a danger area between the turret ceiling and the upper breech mechanism by computer vision-based method. This system informs danger of pressed to death to gunner and commander for the safety of operating mission. The camera mounted ort the top portion of the turret ceiling. The system sets search moving object from this image and detects by using change of image, laplacian operator and clustering algorithm in this area. It alarms the tank crews when it's judged that dangerous situation for operating mission. The result In this experiment shows that the detection rate maintains in $81{\sim}98$ percents.

  • In this paper we describe an approach for template based detection and tracking of objects by chamfer matching in real time video. Detecting and tracking of any objects is the key problem in computer vision. In our case we try for hand and head of human for detection and tracking by chamfer matching technique. Matching involves correlating the templates with the distance transformed scene and determining the locations where the mismatch is below a certain user defined threshold.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of [$^{18}F$]FDG PET in the diagnosis of recurrent head and neck cancer after the completion of surgery and radiotherapy in patients with head and neck cancers. Materials and Methods: In fifty-nine patients with head and neck cancers whole body [$^{18}F$]FDG PET studies were performed. According to the different therapeutic modalities, patients were divided into four groups (Group I; pre-treatment, Group II: surgery, Group III; radiotherapy, Group IV; both surgery and radiotherapy). [$^{18}F$]FDG PET images were compared with clinical, CT and histopathologic findings. Results: for detection of metastatic lymph nodes in 14 patients of pre-treatment group (group I), the sensitivity and specificity of PET were 100% (10/10) and 75% (3/4), and those of CT were 80% (8/10) and 100% (4/4). For detection of recurrence in 45 patients of post-treatment group, overall sensitivity and specificity of PET were 96.2% (25/26) and 78.9% (15/19) [(100% and 75% in group II, 80% and 10% in group III, and 100% and 100% in group IV)] without significant difference from pre-treatment group (P>0.1). In detecting recurrence, the sensitivity and specificity of [$^{18}F$]FDG PET were 90.9% (10/11) and 20% (1/5) in 16 patients who underwent [$^{18}F$]FDG PET within 2 months after the completion of treatment. The specificity of these patients was significantly lower than that of 29 patients (100% of sensitivity and specificity) who underwent [$^{18}F$]FDG PET 2 months after treatment (p<0.05). Conclusion: [$^{18}F$]FDG PET is an accurate diagnostic modality for the detection of recurrence in head and neck cancer. Post-therapy [$^{18}F$]FDG PET should be obtained at least 2 months after the completion of surgery or radiotherapy.

  • MANET has a weak construction in security more because it is consisted of only moving nodes and doesn't have central management system. The DDoS attack is a serious attack among these attacks which threaten wireless network. The DDoS attack has various object and trick and become intelligent. In this paper, we propose the technique to raise DDoS detection rate by classifying abnormal traffic pattern. Cluster head performs sentinel agent after nodes which compose MANET are made into cluster. The decision tree is applied to detect abnormal traffic pattern after the sentinel agent collects all traffics and it judges traffic pattern and detects attack also. We confirm high attack detection rate of proposed detection technique in this study through experimentation.
