Background: HER2/neu, a member of EGFR family, is over expressed in some tumors. The purpose of this study was to determine the salivary level and tissue expression of HER2/neu in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and any correlation with clinicopathologic parameters. Methods: An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to evaluate the salivary level and immunohistochemistry (IHC) to assess tissue expression of HER2/neu in 28 patients with HNSCC and 25 healthy controls. Results: The salivary levels of HER2/neu in HNSCC patients was not significantly higher than in the healthy controls (p>0.005). There was no apparent correlation in salivary HER2/neu level with clinicopathological features such as age, sex, grade, tumor size and nodal status. All HNSCC specimens were positive (membranous or/and cytoplasmic) for HER2/neu, except one sample. Only one HNSCC specimen was stained in cytoplasm purely. All control specimens were membranous and cytoplasmic positive for HER2/neu. There was a significant difference between cytoplasmic staining in case and control groups (p-value<0.05). Conclusion: In our cases, no overexpression of HER2/neu was observed. Thus, our findings suggested that the use of Her-2 as a salivary marker of HNSCC cannot be recommended.

The landmark-based morphometric and meristic analysis of the kelp grouper (Epinephelus bruneus), red spotted grouper (E. akaara) and seven-banded grouper (E. septemfasciatus) were performed to compare the differentiation of overall body shape and structure. The measurements of the morphometric dimensions were observed in 25 parts (truss dimension: 16 parts; head part dimension: 9 parts) of 38 morphometric dimensions and also meristic differences observed in 3 parts (dorsal fin, anal fin and caudal fin) of 6 meristic counts (P < 0.05). Observed morphometric characteristics primarily involved in truss and head part dimension, kelp grouper have larger values in caudal part of truss dimension, kelp grouper, red spotted grouper and seven-banded grouper have similar values in pectoral part of truss dimension, in addition to, results of head part dimension showed that red spotted grouper have smaller values in overall dimensions (P < 0.05). As meristic characteristics, kelp grouper have more number of anal fin rays than other fish, red spotted grouper have more number of dorsal soft rays than other fish, and seven spotted grouper have more number of anal soft rays, and caudal fin rays than other fish (P < 0.05). Photographed under the x-ray, kelp grouper have the most curved vertebral column and largest swim bladder than other fishes (P < 0.05). Our results of this study confirmed that 3 subfamily fishes adequately can distinguish with external body shape, and we hope that the results of our study could be used to identify in Serranidae family as taxonomical parameters.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the Enneagram personality types and the anger expression styles, and to see how the relationship depends on the gender. The subjects, selected by the convenience sampling method, are 315 college students. The instrument is the Korean Enneagram Personality Types(Yoon 1999), which categorizes the personal types into the gut-center, the heart-center and the head-center. On the other hand, the anger expression styles, which is the anger-control as a functional role, and the anger-out and the anger-in as a dysfunctional role, is measured by the Korean version of STAXI(Chon et al 1998). The major findings of the study are as follows. First, comparing the personality types of students, the ratio of the students of the gut-center, that of the head-center and that of the heart-center types are in descending order. Second, It is found that students rely on the anger-out more than the other two expression styles. There also exist the gender differences in terms of the level of the anger expression: female students tend to express the anger-out and the anger-control significantly more than male students. Third, the relationship between the Enneagram personality types and the anger expression styles of students are statistically significant such that students of the gut-center style express the anger-out more severely than the head-center and the heart-center. Therefore, the findings from the study may become the basis on which the education program is designed for the sake of the psychological adjustment of college students, especially taking into account the gender differences.
With regard to the pavilion buildings of Imcheonggak Gunjajeong and Donglakdang Gyejeong that are located within residential areas, this study focused on the construction background, the building owner's circumstances and the location environment of these buildings, and attempted to derive the architectural characteristics presented by these two pavilion buildings and, through this, to grasp the architect's intention of plan. The results of this study are as follows. With regard to Gunjajeong, it could be confirmed that, first, it is located in a propitious site and took the composition that follows the family ritual standards for the family rituals of the scholar-gentry class and opens to visitor access, and second, the floor height of the site and interior space was designed so that Munpilbong on the south and the Sarangchae on the west, and the Sadang on the east can be connected visually, and third, the authority and dignity of the head family were built through the symmetric 丁-shaped plane figure, the wide partition module, the form-centered building, and the hierarchical composition of the roof. On the other hand, with regard to Gyejeong, it could be confirmed that, first, it is located along the stream of Jagye valley that has no mountains in the front and in the back and took the composition that put the name symbolizing Taoist thoughts on the surrounding natural environment and was closed to visitor access but opens to nature, and second, with Jagye and Jagye surroundings as the main landscape, it built the concept of intended landscape that symbolizes the Taoist thoughts by giving names not only simply to the visible objects but also to surrounding rocks, and third, the asymmetric ㄱ-shaped plane composed a yard-centered space rather than emphasizing the shape, and connected the part of the plane with Jagye so as to be embodied as a personal inner self-perfecting place that closely communicates only with nature away from the mundane world.
A taxonomic review of 6 genera and 10 species in the family Ophichthidae was carried out based on specimens from the adjacent waters of Korea. The number of vertebrae distinguished the species of each genus: Ophisurus macrorhynchos (201~209), Ophichthus rotundus (178~183), Pisodonophis zophistius (179~182), P. cancrivorus (153~164), Echelus uropterus (152~158), Muraenichthys gymnopterus (155~156), Ophichthus evermanni (150~154), Brachysomophis porphyreus (137~148), Ophichthus urolophus (135~138), Ophichthus asakusae (124~134). Snout length in head length distinguished the 6 genera: Ophisurus (27.2~31.2), Echelus (18.0~27.7), Ophichthus (12.3~21.5), Pisodonophis (16.5~20.8), Muraenichthys (11.4~11.9), Brachysomophis (9.1~9.4). A key to the 6 genera and 10 species of the family Ophichthidae from the adjacent waters of Korea is provided.
A recurrent theme within the literature on the 6 Sigma program is the study of its effect on organizational performance. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 6 Sigma on culinary quality performance, work commitment, and customer loyalty in the culinary division of hotels and family restaurants. The samples of this study included the employees of the culinary division of hotels and family restaurants that implemented or were about to implement the 6 Sigma program. A total of 248 questionnaires were analyzed with statistical methods of factor analysis, reliability test, and regression analysis. The findings of this study showed that the 6 Sigma program affected the culinary quality performance and work commitment of culinary division employees. Also, the 6 Sigma program, culinary quality performance and work commitment affected customer loyalty. Furthermore, work commitment affected culinary quality performance. Based on these research findings, it is required that the culinary division of hotels and family restaurants should incorporate the 6 Sigma program. For this purpose, good quality data should be collected with sufficient preparation procedures, and task force team should be made. Moreover, experts in this field should be cultivated, with the training of employees in mind. It is also crucial that the current quality of product and services be measured and that all the employees of the culinary division participate in the implementation of the 6 Sigma program. The intervention and heavy participation of the top management and head of the culinary division is expected for the successful implementation of 6 Sigma program.
Purpose: To survey the functional status, self-esteem and depression of a community of indwelling clients with total laryngectomy, and to evaluate the correlation among these three variances. Methods: From May 2002 to October 2002, 76 clients who had undergone total laryngectomy more than three months ago were surveyed with using Baker's functional status in head & neck cancer-self report, Rosenberg's self rating self-esteem scale and Zung's self rating depression scale. Results: 1. The functionaI status score was $48.67{\pm}10.12$. The subjects aged 70 years or older had significantly higher scores than the subjects aged $50{\sim}59$ years. The group of clients who were operated on more than five years ago showed higher scores than the patients operated on within a year. 2. The self-esteem score was $30.47{\pm}6.44$. 3. The depression score was $47.26{\pm}8.01$. The subjects who bad three family members and the subjects who had five family members had significantly higher scores than the subjects who had two family members. 4. A significant correlation found between the functional status and self-esteem. Significant negative correlations were found between the functional status and depression and also between self-esteem and depression. Conclusion: Remarkable correlations were observed among functional status, self-esteem and depression. Nurses should consider the status of layngectomy patients and pay more attention to their pre- and post- operative nursing care and rehabilitation.
The aim of this study was to introduce the foods recorded in "Bongjeopyoram", a cookbook, of which the date of production and author are unknown. This was described in an old document belonging to the Hansan Lee family clan from Chungcheongnam-do and revealed its content and significance in the food culture history of Korea to academia for the first time, A close examination of "Bongjeopyoram" showed that, as with other cookbooks from the Joseon Dynasty, it started with methods of making alcoholic beverages. This was followed by recipes for different types of food in the following order: rice cakes and confectioneries, jeol-sik (seasonal foods), daily meals, foods made for jesa (ancestral rites) or a feast, food for weddings, and food for sijeol-jesa (seasonal ancestral rites). The book contained a total of 18 types of alcoholic beverages, 11 types of rice cakes and confectioneries, 20 types of daily meals, 28 types of jeol-sik and food for sijeol-jesa, 12 types of food for jesa and feasts, and 37 types of food for weddings, for a total of 126 types of food and beverages. "Bongjeopyoram" was an ancient cookbook with detailed records on how to carry out jesa, which was an important event hosted by jonggas, or the head family of a family clan, and how to receive and serve guests in the Joseon period. This book is expected to play a valuable role as a guidance with significance as a cookbook of a jongga from the Joseon Dynasty, a time when bongjesajeopbingaek (hosting jesa for one's ancestors and serving one's guest) was considered important.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of 6 Sigma on menu management, work commitment and quality in the culinary division of hotels and family restaurants. In addition, this study sought to identify the effects of menu management, work commitment and quality performance on customer satisfaction. Furthermore the relationship between menu management and culinary quality was evaluated here. The subjects evaluated in this study were employees of culinary division of hotels and family restaurants that implemented or were about to adopt the 6 Sigma program. A total of 385 questionnaires were analyzed using factor analysis, a reliability test, and covariance structural analysis. The results revealed that the 6 Sigma program influenced menu management, work commitment and culinary quality. Moreover, menu management, work commitment and culinary quality performance were found to impact customer satisfaction and culinary quality performance. Based on these findings, culinary divisions of hotels and family restaurants should incorporate the 6 Sigma program as soon as possible. To implement this program, faultless data for the 6 Sigma program should be collected using sufficient preparation procedures. After the data were collected, a task force team should be developed, experts should be cultivated and employees should be trained as necessary. Finally, the current level of product and services should be measured and reported to all employees in the culinary division and a challenge spirit should be brought with understanding for the reason for implementation of the 6 Sigma program. In implementing the 6 Sigma program, the leadership of the top manager and the head of the culinary division is very important.
Our paper aims to estimate a household consumption function in the presence of liquidity constraints as well as household characteristics. Empirical findings from a Korean cross-sectional data (National Survey of Household Income and Expenditure) reveal that several family characteristics, such as household size, number of working members, children in school, and educational level and age of the household head, turn out to be critical determinants of household consumption. Especially, the influence of household size on consumption decision is shown to be highly significant, not only indirectly through its impact on household income, but also directly by affecting the household's preference for consumption itself. While, the other family characteristics primarily influences household income. Our paper distinguishes itself from existing literature in that it greatly improves the explanatory power of the estimated household consumption function by measuring the degree of the liquidity constraint rather than simply identifying its presence. Based on the assumption that the present value of human capital is a function of household characteristics, the degree of the liquidity constraint is represented by the underestimated portion of the human capital. Such a method of implementing the liquidity constraint is useful in treating various types of assets according to their liquidity. Finally, our estimated household consumption function is applied to decompose cross-sectional variances of consumption inequality. The analysis confirms that the overall alleviation in liquidity constraints in Korea after the 1997 currency crisis reduced consumption inequality despite the worsening of income inequality and changes in the demographic composition of family characteristics during the same period.
