This study presents one man-portable, hazardous gas detecting and capturing robot. The robot can be fit in the trunk of a sedan car. Its weight is less than 20 kg. A dedicated gas intake mechanism is proposed for the robot. The robot can detect and capture gases at a height of 2 m above the ground, although the height of the robot is about 0.2 m. The performance of the gas intake mechanism is verified through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis and experiments. Its gas detecting signals were acquired by serial communication and processed in Robot Operating System (ROS) based control software. The proposed robot can successfully move on rough terrains such as stairs, sand roads, and rock roads.

The Government presented improvement plans such as "Traffic Accident Frequent Point" and "Hazardous Roads" to reduce traffic accidents on the increase after 1980s. In case of the hazardous roads, they are expressed by grades which are marked by geometric elements such as width, radius, grade. sight distance. and other environmental factors. As each business for improving roads goes by only focusing on improvement of geometric elements, excessive expense can be invested too much nowadays causing economical waste. Therefore, as improvement plans approached by economic access are needed, this paper shows the cost-effective improvement of the business to keep safety related to traffic accident and economical waste. The hazardous roads which authorized by Gwang-ju National Road Preservation Office of Construction and Transportation Ministry in 1995 for business for improvement of roads, were investigated before 1999. First of all, estimating traffic accident models are presented by using existed data statistically. The models help to maximize traffic accident decrease through control of the presented factor. Secondly, optimum construction cost of improvement is presented to prevent overcapitalization. However, this paper is limited because it was difficult to sort the data with various areas and to approach various ways.
Air pollution and traffic noise from roads distributed near residential area has been a major social problem. In this study, an environmental pollution map for a residential area of Shihung-city was made by an expectation model based on hourly traffic volume change. Using the result from the model, a plan to reduce population in the residential area was established. The result of the modelling is summarized as follows: 1. At peak traffic hours (18 o'clock), 301-500 degree in hazardous and $d_{25}$ degree (25% of the residents are suffering extremely from the noise) in noise pollution were predicted in Jeongwang Main Road in Shihung city. 2. The calculated critical pollutant standard index, PSI showed the air pollution level, especially PM-10 high enough to require re-entrainment. 3. It was expected air pollution would extensively extend over the area distribution of each degree. However, noise pollution problem was limited to the area near roads.
The existing researches related to the fog have focused on mainly the fog itself and its spatial variation. This study defined the hazardous fog as the fog with visibility under 500 m which caused the severe dangerous situation on roads and might cause traffic accident due to insufficient visibility. This study aimed to develop the hazardous fog index which quantified the degree of danger and included frequency of fog, visibility and its duration. We applied the index to 3 years weather station data in Korea and the results showed the distribution of the hazardous fog and their priority in terms of safety management. This was the first study that introduced the fog index in Korea and that quantified the degree of hazardous fog. These application results were useful for identifying the dangerous area due to hazardous fog and contributing to ensure the safety of eventual road users and road authorities.
Terrain data for disaster analysis in hazardous or disaster areas is not only important but also needs to be built quickly. In particular, the introduction of drones is in the early stages of research using drones in a variety of fields such as shooting, analyzing and managing hazardous areas. It is expected that drone will be faster, safer and more effective than existing data collection method in case of small scale disaster hazard area and disaster area where equipment or manpower input is difficult. Therefore, in this study, drone shooting was performed for hazardous areas in mountainous roads located in Samcheok city, Gangwon province, and ground reference points were measured by RTK-GPS. The measured data were converted into DSM (Digital Surface Model) data by coordinate correction using Pix4D postprocessing program and then applied to the analysis of the hazard area of mountainous area. As a result, it was shown that it is effective to identify the risk by using the basic terrain data obtained from the drones.
With recent progress of developing infrastructure, construction vibration from the sites and traffic vibration caused by high-speed rail, subway, and roads is becoming a hazardous factor for vibration environment. In order to predict the damages caused by the vibrations mentioned above the vibration sources, have to be distinguished between point vibration and line vibration. Once the character of the vibration source is determined vibration propagation phenomenon needs to be analyzed by using prediction formula, and compared to the limits authorized by the law. The main purpose of this thesis is to manage the efficient vibration by reflecting these finding in making a consrtuction plan. Therefore, Vibration Management System (VMS) was developed which can predict and analyze the extent of developed utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) to build a database. This database contains the attribute and the location information of the sources for predicting the formula of explosive vibration and subway traffic vibration, the buildings, the surrounding area and measurement sites. VMS will be useful in the future for predicting the vibrations caused by pile drive, traffic vibrations such as high speed electric railway, highway and roads, and other explosive vibrations by supplementing and updating the database.

The appropriate maintenance of highway roads is critical for the safe operation of road networks and conserves maintenance costs. Multiple methods have been developed to investigate the surface of roads for various types of cracks and potholes, among other damage. Like road surface damage, the condition of expansion joints in concrete pavement is important to avoid unexpected hazardous situations. Thus, in this study, a new system is proposed for autonomous expansion joint monitoring using a vision-based system. The system consists of the following three key parts: (1) a camera-mounted vehicle, (2) indication marks on the expansion joints, and (3) a deep learning-based automatic evaluation algorithm. With paired marks indicating the expansion joints in a concrete pavement, they can be automatically detected. An inspection vehicle is equipped with an action camera that acquires images of the expansion joints in the road. You Only Look Once (YOLO) automatically detects the expansion joints with indication marks, which has a performance accuracy of 95%. The width of the detected expansion joint is calculated using an image processing algorithm. Based on the calculated width, the expansion joint is classified into the following two types: normal and dangerous. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed system is very efficient in terms of speed and accuracy.
In this study, tank truck incidents of road transport of hazardous materials to experimental investigated the potential fire hazard. Real scale fire was to perform experiments for on this qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. Particularly affected by radiant heat from the flames caused and damage estimates range investigated accordingly. Flame temperature, internal temperature of tank and emitted radiation from the flames was investigated. The flame of light oil spill caused a fire at a temperature of about $300^{\circ}C$ high in comparison with the methanol by combustion of diesel and methanol, according to the difference, the flame duration changes varies depending on the Burning rate, amount of radiant heat flux from light oil fire was 4 times increases compared with fire of methanol. Depending on spill locations(kinds of road surfaces, absorbing rate) and the longer the duration of the flame important factors for the internal temperature of tank truck rise was found. Dirt roads than paved road accident in a fire caused by leakage of hazardous was could the higher the damaged. Therefor, Fire suppression activities should be required in particular to be around.

Over 4.1 billion metric tons of non-hazardous solid wstes are generated in the United States annually. Therefore, there is a need to reuse or reprocess as many products or by-products as possible. In this report, theaggregates produced from Naval Shipyard and Charleston area dredge spoils are designated as GP-21-23 and GP 4-5, repectively. The major objective of this study is to determine the feasiblity of the use of these aggregates in concrete. The followings are some of the conclusions, observations and recommendations regarding this portion of the research project. In most cases, the unit weight of concrete containing GP 21-23 and GP 4-5 (vitrified galss) lower than the control concrete, and the concrete containing vitrified glass produced lower compressive and bending strength compared to the control. However the concrete containing virtrified glass could be used in the field based on the minimum criterial set for the mix design. The use of vitrified glass in concrete is recommended in several applications except parking lots, side walks and main roads, because abrasion resistace is not high.
