  • This study assessed the biological and physicochemical hazards involved in establishing a hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP) for canned seasoned Broughton's ribbed ark Scapharca broughtonii and examined the critical control points (CCPs) in the field. Following the basic principles of the HACCP system, the hazard-evaluation procedures were enacted during the production of canned seasoned Broughton's ribbed ark after field investigation of a seafood product company in Korea. CCPs were determined using canned seasoned Broughton's ribbed ark with the corresponding control measures. The HACCP system was applied to each step in processing the product. The results indicated that inspection of raw materials, filling, sterilization, and alien substance detection were the most important CCPs. These results can be used to prevent and control food safety problems in the production of canned seasoned Broughton's ribbed ark.

  • The previous quantitative bankruptcy prediction models cannot include time dimension. To overcome this limit, various dynamic models using survival analysis are developed recently. This paper emphasizes that the proportionality assumption must be adapted with caution when the Cox's proportional hazard model is used to explain bankruptcy. It is shown that a non-proportional hazard model including a change point model is a proper alternative, when the proportionality assumption is violated by the change of macroeconomic environment, such as the financial crisis in 1997.

Probabilistic seismic hazard assessment of Sanandaj, Iran

  • In this paper, the peak horizontal ground acceleration over the bedrock (PGA) is calculated by a probabilistic seismic hazard assessment (PSHA). For this reason, at first, all the occurred earthquakes in a radius of 200 km of Sanandaj city have been gathered. After elimination of the aftershocks and foreshocks, the main earthquakes were taken into consideration to calculate the seismic parameters (SP) by Kijko (2000) method. The seismotectonic model of the considered region and the seismic sources of the region have been modeled. In this research, Sanandaj and its vicinity has been meshed as an 8 (vertical lines) * 10 (horizontal lines) and the PGA is calculated for each point of the mesh using the logic tree method and the five attenuation relationships (AR) with different weighted coefficient. These calculations have been performed by the Poisson distribution of four hazard levels. Then by using it, four regional maps of the seismic hazard regions have been provided for Sanandaj and its vicinity. The results show that the maximum and minimum value of PGA for the return periods of 75, 225, 475, 2475 years are (0.114, 0.074) (0.157, 0.101), (0.189, 0.121) and (0.266, 0.170), respectively.

A two-parameter discrete distribution with a bathtub hazard shape

  • This paper introduces a two-parameter discrete distribution based on a continuous two-parameter bathtub distribution. It is the only two-parameter discrete distribution that shows a bathtub-shaped hazard function. Some statistical properties of the distribution are discussed. Three different methods are used to estimate its two unknown parameters. The point estimators of the parameters have no closed form. The bootstrap method is used to estimate the distributions of these point estimators. Different approximations of the interval estimations for the two-parameters are discussed. Real data sets are analyzed to show how this distribution works in practice. A simulation study is performed to investigate the properties of the estimations obtained and compare their performances.

  • Occurrences of foodborne disease outbreaks are increasing in Korea. Among the outbreaks, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio parahaemolyticus are the most important organisms and meat and meat product the major sources of infection. Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point system is a process control system designed to identify and prevent microbial and other hazards in food production. It is considered to be the best process management system by the National Advisory Committee for Microbiological Criteria for Foods, the National Academy of Science, and the Codex Alimentarius Commission. The Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare established a legal basis for the implementation of the HACCP system in Article 32-2 (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) of the Food Sanitation Act in December 1995. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has granted research funds for the development of this model system for application to traditional food products and processed fishery products as well as to raw meats. Implementation of the HACCP system is an important step and the Korean food industry and the Government are focused on ensuring food safety in Korea.

시뮬레이션과 실험에 의한 산소절단기 절단시 철근의 수열온도 분포 (Heated temperature and Range of the Oxy-acetylene Cutting Reinforcing Bar by Simulation and Experiment)

  • 본 연구는 상온에서 산소절단기로 철근의 절단시 절단부위로 부터의 고온수열범위와 수열온도를 측정하고 시뮬레이션 결과와 비교함으로써 현장에서 산소절단기를 사용한 철근절단의 가능성을 파악하는 것을 목적으로 하며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 산소절단기로 철근을 절단하는 경우 절단 부위로부터 1 cm 떨어진 위치의 수열온도는 $700^{\circ}C{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$의 범위에 있으나, 절단부위로부터 2cm떨어진 위치의 수열온도는 200$^{\circ}C$를 넘지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 2 각 직경, 종류별로 철근의 수열온도 분포를 시뮬레이션한 결과 산소 절단시험와 유사한 절단 거리에 따른 온도 분포를 보임으로서 철근 절단 거리에서 2cm 정도의 여유를 갖고 절단할 경우에는 고온 수열에 따른 취성변화가 발생되지 않는다.

수작업떡류의 증자공정에 의한 미생물학적 한계기준 설정에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Microbiological Limitation Standards Setting of Handmade Rice-cake by Steam Processing)

  • 본 연구는 수작업 떡류의 HACCP(Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point)시스템 적용을 위한 목적으로 하였다. 본 실험에 사용된 시료는 떡의 주원료, 작업장 시설, 도구와 작업자는, 2012년 9월 12일~2013년 2월 13일까지 서울시 용산구 서계동 소재에 있는 KB 업체에서 제공받았다. 제조공정도는 일반적인 떡류 제조업체의 제조공정을 참고로 작성하였다. 제조 공정도는 원료 농산물(맵쌀, 찹쌀, 잣 등), 부재료(분말원료), 용수와 포장재료의 입고, 보관, 정선 및 계량, 세척, 불림, 탈수, 분쇄, 주재료 혼합, 익반죽, 수작업 성형, 증자, 냉각, 절단, 내포장, 금속검출, 외포장, 보관 및 출하공정으로 작성하였다. 원료 농산물의 미생물학적 위해요소 분석결과는 Table 1과 같다. 본 연구결과 증자공정 후의 떡과 원재료의 미생물검사 결과는 안전한 것으로 보인다. 하지만, 체계적인 세척 및 소독을 실시하여 미생물학적 위해를 감소시키고 작업자 위생교육 등을 통하여 개인위생개념 향상과 작업장의 미생물 관리가 함께 이루어져야 할 것으로 여겨진다.

신축공동주택내 실내유해공기오염물질(HAPs)의 건강위해성평가 (Health Risk Assessment of Indoor HAPs in New Apartments)

  • This study accomplished to grasp the present condition of HAPs and to examine efficiently carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health effects through health risk assessment in new apartments from June, 2004 to May,2005. Moreover, we performed uncertainty analysis by Monte-Carlo analysis to control uncertainty of exposure factors. The major results obtained from this study were as follows. Firstly, cancer risk of formaldehyde for male was $1.67{\times}10^{-5}$ in CTE in point estimation. Cancer risk of formaldehyde was showed $2.94{\times}10^{-3}$ in RME that applied worst case used results of 95 percentile in point estimation. It exceeds $10^{-6}$ of guide line in US EPA. Moreover, cancer risks of formaldehyde for female were $3.98{\times}10^{-5}$ in CTE and $3.93{\times}10^{-3}$ RME. Secondly, every hazard index for non-carcinogenic pollutants was less than 1 of permitted standards in CTE. However, in RME of male, hazard indexes of 1,2-Dichloropropane and Toluene were 1.3 and 2.0, respectively. Hazard indexes of 1,2-Dichloropropane and Totuene for female in RME were 1.7 and 2.6, respectively.
