  • Under the four-cut system, low-lignin alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) may extend harvesting intervals improving harvest management flexibility and producing forage products with higher nutritive values. The objective of this study was to compare forage yield and nutritive values of low-lignin and conventional alfalfa varieties when applied to six different harvest schedules in the first (2016) and second (2017) production years. There were 12 treatments of two alfalfa varieties as whole plots and six harvest schedules as subplots. Across harvest schedules, there were four cuttings in two production years. Three harvest intervals including "Standard" (high quality, HQ), "Standard+5-day" (medium quality, MQ), and "Standard+10-day" (high yield, HY) were chosen for the first cutting, and 30-day (HQ) and 35-day (HY) for the second cuttings. The third and fourth cuttings in 2016 were timed near final harvest date and in 2017 occurred at 35-day (MQ) and 40-day (HY). Variety by harvest schedule interaction was not significant, but the whole plot and sub-plot effects were significant. Hi-Gest 360 was consistently higher in nutritive value and with a similar yield as Gunner. Harvest schedules did not consistently differ in forage yield and nutritive values. HS-1 ("Standard" + 35-day + Medium Quality + High Yield) with shorter first two cutting intervals provided lower acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), higher relative feed value (RFV), and similar forage yield compared to other schedules. HS-1 had the highest economic incomes when considering RFV and yield among the six different harvest schedules.

  • Powdery mildew, caused by Sphaerotheca aphanis var. aphanis, is an economically significant disease of strawberry in Korea. When powdery mildew is not controlled adequately, it often spreads rapidly through strawberry plants and damage is associated with reduced yields. Proper timing of fungicide applications is, therefore, essential for effective disease control. This study evaluated the efficacy by application schedule of fungicides before harvest stage for preventing powdery mildew in 2001-2003. The systemic fungicides, azoxystrobin, kresoxim-methyl, and cupper fungicide DBEDC were applied preventively during the first part of the cultivating season. Preventative applications of DBEDC by dipping treatment before transplanting and kresoxim-methyl by foliar spray before blooming stage were one of the most effective control schedule tested to prevent and manage this disease. This research demonstrated the significance of application time to control of powdery mildew, particularly provided elimination unnecessary sprays of agrochemicals and reduction costs for strawberry growers.

  • The harvest schedule for maximum total yield and quality of orchardgrass sward was studied on the basis of theoretical analysis due to Chang's total yield equation. Harvesting at the 10% bloom stage of morphological development of orchardgrass swards was selected as a criterion which provided highest dry matter (DM) yield in conjunction with high and consistent levels of in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVD) and crude protein contents (CP) from harvest to harvest. However, since orchardrass after the 1st cutting do not bloom, the harvest time for the maximum yield and quality of orchardgrass swards is replaced by the three should time of the ceiling leaf area index (LAI).

  • Linear programming(LP) is a well-known method in optimizing timber harvest schedules. This paper describes a linear programming formulation of korean pine stands for timber harvest scheduling problems. Simulation technique and LP were applied to optimize the time and space distribution of the sustained yield for the 10-year forest management planning horizon. Growthfunction of korean pine stands in study area was derived with the yield table. This growthfunction was contained to the simulation model in estimating of changing stand volume conditions for the planning horizon. These estimated values were served as the basic data of LP model, and LP model was formulated with the maximum of periodical harvest volume calculated by the classical yield regulation method (Paulsen-Hundeshagen formula) and the maximum of periodical harvest area calculated for the normal age distribution. The timber harvest schedule was established periodically for each subcompartment of korean pine stands in experiment forest of College of Forestry in Kangweon National University with the here developed LP model.

  • This research developed a forest-level harvest scheduling model using linear programming (LP). The formulations of the LP model include timber production schemes with constraints of nondecling yield forest conversion strategies, the minimum timber supply, levels and the maximum cut acrages. The model is able to generate both Model I and Model II types of input matrix in MPS format. In this paper, use of LP in building the framework of the strategic forest planning model was justified by comparing the algorithmic characteristics of LP with those of Gentan probability and binary search approaches through literature reviews. In order to demonstrate the field applicability of the model proposed. (1) the harvest scheduling problem for about 11,000-hectare case study area (Mt. Baekun area in Southern Experimental Forest of Seoul National University) was formulated and soloed and (2) the effects of the change in task regulatory timber production constraints or. optimal harvesting schedules here investigated.

  • The study was designed to provide the fundamental information for understanding discomfort of bone marrow donors and for promoting an individual comfort by comparing the difference on discomfort between unrelated donors and related donors. The subject of the study was fifty related donors and thirty unrelated donors who was in the C University Hospital. This survey had been carried out and collected from October, 1998 to March, 1999. The scale of discomfort of donors associated with bone marrow donation were assessed by the questionnaire deviced by Kim Sang Dol and amended by the researcher. Data was analyzed by $x^2-test$, t-test, two-way ANOVA, and Pearson Correlation Coefficients. The results were as follows. 1. Considering the general characteristics of bone marrow donors according to gender, male was consisted of $60\%$ and female was consisted of $40\%$. Of those related donors are consisted for $62.5\%$ and accounted for $37.5\%$ of those unrelated donors. Considering the classification to the job, employee of company were major donors which was $35\%$, and next order was student, individual businessman, and housewife. Considering the education level. college students were $48.7\%$ and students who have less than high school level were $42.5\%$. 2. According to the above the results regarding discomfort of bone marrow donation, it is especially shown that the major cause for discomfort of bone marrow donors is on physical factor. The concrete examples for physical factor are pain in the region of bone marrow harvest and pain in the injection part by fluid therapy and blood-sampling, an immovability of the body after bone marrow harvest, and difficulties on walking. Considering physiological factor, there are an uneasiness about leading to injure their health, vague fear about the hospital. and a tedium at hospital. Environmental factors for discomfort of bone marrow donors are insufficient explanation for needle gauge and procedure of bone marrow donation and difficulty on following medical schedule. Therefore. it is necessary to establish more effective and systematically organized program for nursing intervention based on the research results. An effective program is only useful in getting rid of discomfort of bone marrow donors.

  • The purpose of this study is to maintain high efficiency and reasonable use of cool thermal storage systems operated in the domestic building sector. As the result of efficiency test from the five types of operated cool storage systems on the condition that COP ranges are 2.6 to 3.4 during the day time and 2.1 to 3.0 during the night time and it decreased by more than 30% of rated COP given 3.8 to 3.0. The Analysis of cool storage rate shows that only 3 (21.4%) systems out of 15 buildings hold to over 40% capacity for its total capacity. To prevent the decrease in operating efficiency, it should correct the malfunction of 3-way valve and expansion valve and the mistake of control values for schedule program and increase cooling tower capacity. In order to improve piping line, it needs bypass brine line off refrigerator, separation of chilled water line with Ice Slurry system at day and night time and speed control of chilled and warm water pumps. This study does require the more studies on improving difficulty of increasing cooling load with Ice on Coil system, waterproofing with Ice Ball system, COP drop during the night time with Ice Lens, low operating temperature during the day time with Ice Slurry and increasing of Power loss due to hot gas de-icing with Ice Harvest in the future.

  • In this paper, an rice intake management system based on ubiquitous computing technology is introduced for rice processing complex (RPC). This system plays an important role in the quality management for rough rices in that the system provides timely and useful information of rice cultivation. The intake management system is developed by utilizing widespread ubiquitous technologies, such as smartphones, GIS and LBS, for the purpose of controling the harvest time and monitoring the quality of paddy. The information for rice production, cultivation and quality management is transmitted and stored in a centralized database via mobile networks, On the basis of these information, the harvest schedule is determined and notified to farmers though smart devices. Hence, the proposed system can help to establish trust among farmers, operators and consumers by providing systematic information based on ubiquitous computing technology.
