This study was carried out to understand the physiological characteristics of 'Manpungbae' (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) pears through the seasonal changes of pericarp structure and anatomical differences between bagging and non-bagging treatment, and also fruit quality and peel coloration characteristics at the harvest time. The pericarp at full bloom was consists of outer epidermis, hypodermis, parenchyma cell, and inner epidermis from the exterior. The cell layers from the outer epidermis to vascular bundle increased rapidly 7-10 layers to 18-26 layers from full bloom (FB) to 77 days after full bloom (DAFB) and did not change significantly until maturity. Thus, the cell division period of 'Manpungbae' pear was until 77 DAFB and during this period, the thickness from hypodermis to vascular bundle increased from $73.1{\mu}m$ to $195{\mu}m$ in this period. Stone cells were formed from seven to 21 DAFB and stone cell clusters were formed around 49 DAFB. The cork cell layer was formed between 49 and 77 DAFB. 'Manpungbae' fruit pericarp was consists of 4.5 layers of the cork cell layers and seven layers of hypodermis which has the tannin at harvest time (161 DAFB). Comparison of the fruit enlargement and fruit structure development by bagging or non-bagging showed that 'Manpungbae' fruits without bagging had more than three cork cell layer than those with bagging at maturity. The size of stone cell clusters were varied in two treatments. Fruit weight was higher in the non-bagging treatment but there was no difference in soluble solid contents (SSC) between two treatments. The weight of the 'Manpunbae' fruit was distributed from 301 g to more 900 g and the average fruit weight was 677.2 g at harvest time, and fruits in the range of 551-800 g accounted for 71.6% of total production. The SSC, acidity and SSC/acidity ratio was $10.2-12.1^{\circ}Brix$, 0.10-1.24% and 9.76-14.31 respectively, and the SSC was higher in bigger fruit which had a very higher positive correlation with a fruit weight. However, the fruit firmness tended to be lower with fruit size which had a very higher negative correlation with the fruit weight and SSC. The cork cell layer numbers between yellowish brown and green pericarp were not different significantly, in 3.8 and 3.5 respectively.
The experiment was tested with fruit of 5 astringent cultivars (Chungdo-Bansi, Sagoksi, Euisung-Bolbansi and Gyungsan-bansi) and was carried out to investigate effects of harvest time of fruit and fruit sizes on the removal of astringency and the practical utilization with Chungdo-Bansi was conducted. 1. Soluble tannin content was decreased in all cultivars as fruit was ripening and soluble tannin content at last harvest time was reduced about one half, as contrasted it's content at first harvest time and it showed that the times required of the removal of astringency was gradually shortened. 2. In soluble tannin contents was small fruit size was significantly higher than that of large fruit size. The times for the removal of astringency was required longer small fruit size than large fruit size. 3. In the changes of hardness according to fruit sizes, hardness of large fruit size was decreased rapider than that of small fruit size. This tendency became similar during and after the removal of astringency. 4. According to fruit sizes, sugar content of large fruit size was more amount than that of small fruit size During and after the removal of astringency, reduction of sugar content showed more rapidly large fruit size than small fruit size. 5. Results of the practical utilization in Chungdo-Bansi showed the promising market-ability and persimmons treated by carbon dioxide was increased more income than that treated by $CaC_2$.

This study has been conducted to investigate the treatment time and concentration of GA3 solution dipping for labor saving in 'Campbell Early' grapevine. The rachis growth at harvest was reduced by GA3 solution dipping before 5 days flowering, and increased significantly by GA3 solution dipping treatment at full bloom and after 5 days full bloom. GA3 5, 10, 20 mg·L-1 dipping treatment before 5 days flowering and GA3 20 mg·L-1 treatment of full bloom and after 5 days full bloom showed a rachis twist phytotoxicity symptom. The optimum GA3 concentrations for rachis growth promotion without phytotoxicity were 5 mg·L-1 and 10 mg·L-1. The degree of compact berry, bloom, skin color, SSC and acidity at harvest by GA3 solution dipping treatment time between concentration were not different from those of control. But the fruit berry weight was decreased by before 5 days flowering treatment when compared with control. There were no differences in full bloom and after 5 days full bloom treatment. The occurrence percent of berry cracking at before 5 days flowering and after 5 days full bloom treatment were significantly increased by GA3 treatment. The bitter rot occurrence of berry at harvest was not affected by GA3 treatment. Total rachis length of fruit cluster was increased by full bloom and 5 days after full bloom treatment. The length of rachis increased without reference to them position at full bloom and 5 days after bloom treatment. Accordingly, GA3 5 mg·L-1 solution dipping treatment at full bloom and 5 days after full bloom were can be effectively for rachis growth promotion.
A total of 509 rice panicle samples were collected at harvest time from fields in 8 provinces from 2010 to 2014. One hundred five grains per sample were plated on potato dextrose agar and 6,658 Fusarium isolates were obtained; among them, 67 were identified as Fusarium armeniacum by sequencing the translation elongation factor $1{\alpha}$ ($EF-1{\alpha}$) and confirmed by their morphological and cultural characteristics. Considerable variation in conidial size, colony color and $EF-1{\alpha}$ sequences was observed among the fungal isolates. The ability of 24 F. armeniacum isolates to produce T-2 and HT-2 toxin in potato sucrose agar was determined using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Twenty one isolates produced T-2 and HT-2 toxin, resulting in varying toxin levels among the isolates. The results show that Korean isolates of F. armeniacum have diversity with respect to morphological, cultural, genetic, and toxigenic properties.
In order to investigate the degree of grain shedding of red rices collected in Korea, breaking tensile and breaking bending strengths of 269 varieties; 82 Korean and 100 foreign red rices and 87 Korean cultivars including 26 native varieties, 30 Japonica-Indica hybrids and 31 Japonica type varieties, were measured at harvest time. Also, histological characteristics of abscission region between spikelet and pedicel were observed. The breaking tensile and breaking bending strengths of both Korean and foreign red rices were weaker than those of Japonica-Indica hybrids which were known as easily shedding varieties in Korea. Abscission layers were observed in the majority of Korean red rices except for 5 varieties, and those of all varieties belonging to both long grain types and 'Sare's were cracked completely at harvest time, while those of round grain types were not cracked except one variety. The breaking tensile and breaking bending strengths of the tested varieties having cracked abscission layer were weaker than those of non-cracked ones. Both strengths of breaking tensile and breaking bending were positively correlated with diameter of supporting zone and thickness of sclerenchyma tissue surrounding central vascular tissue of suporting zone at 0.1% significant level, respectively.
Sweet corn hybrid GCB 70 and super sweet corn hybrid NES were cultivated at vinyl tunnel in 1991 to determine the physiologically optimum harvest time for higher eating quality and sugar contnent of kernel by eat parts after silking and stored in refrigerator of 4$^{\circ}C$ and in the air. The development of ear increased continuously from silking to 30th day after silking, and sugar content was the hightest on 15th day after silking. The physiologically optimum harvest time for GCB 70 and NES was about 15~20th day and 20~25th day after silking, respectively. The sugar content of kernel by ear parts for two hybrids were high in order of basal, middle and top parts of the ear and showed significant differences among the parts of the ear. Changes of total sugar content during the storing period at 4$^{\circ}C$ for NES was almost the same by 9th day, but for GCB 70 rapidly decreased from 3rd day. The content of sucrose, glucose and fructose in super sweet corn NES were much higher than those of sweet corn GCB 70, but the maltose content of NES was lower than that of GCB 70.

The effects of insecticide and fungicide treatment were investigated to reduce mycotoxin contamination of corn (Zea mays L.) seeds. Deoxynivalenol and zearalenone contents were reduced in the treated seeds, but aflatoxin, ochratoxin A, fumonisin, and T-2 toxin were not effective by chemical treatments. The chemical treatment did not affect the growth of saprophyte, but inhibited the pathogenic fungi such as Fusarium verticillioides, F. graminearum and F. equiseti. Myotoxin contents at different harvesting time were compared. As the harvest time was delayed, both levels of deoxynivalenol and zearalenone and frequency of Fusarium spp. increased. However, the major nutrient contents of corn seeds were not affected by harvesting period. These results show that chemical treatments are necessary to reduce the fungal contamination of corn and harvest without delay is important as well.
Landscape crops have decorated its surrounding landscape by being cultivated from spring to late fall. Recently, landscape crops are starting to get the limelight as crops that can be cultivated in large area farmlands. Therefore, we examined the growth characteristics of landscape crops, green manure yield and nitrogen production of crops that are cultivated during summer, which are sunflower, cosmos, sunnhemp and sesbania, in order to select crops that can be utilized as landscape crops and green manure crops. The height of landscape crops increased when the harvest time was later. Especially, sunnhemp, cosmos, sunflower and sorghum grew over 100cm. The days to flowering of sunnhemp and cosmos were 50 and 53 days each, and their flowering period of more than 50 days were long. The days to flowering of sunflower, which was 52 days, was short, and its flowering period, which was 21 days, was also short. When the harvest time was later, the green manure yield and nitrogen production of all crops increased. Individually, the green manure yield was higher in sunnhemp, sorghum, sunflower, with $7.2{\sim}7.5Mg\;ha^{-1}$, and was lowest in sesbania. The nitrogen production was higher in sunnhemp, with $168.1kg\;ha^{-1}$ Therefore, as seen in its flowering characteristics, green manure yield and nitrogen production, sunnhemp had the best green manure and landscape effects among the landscape crops for summer.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of delayed controlled atmosphere (CA) storage on fruit quality and the incidence of storage disorders during CA storage of 'Fuji' apples (Malus x domestica Borkh.). In the first year of experiment, 'Fuji' apples showed 40% of watercore disorder at the commercial harvest time (Oct. 22). Twenty days delayed CA storage caused to develop the incidence of flesh browning while 30 days delayed CA storage did not. In the second year of experiment, watercore was increased with delaying harvest time. As the estabilishment of delayed CA storage was delayed, the incidence of flesh browning increased at 10 to 30 days delayed CA storage but 40 days delayed CA storage did not have any flesh browning incidence. Respiration rate increased with extending the storage duration. Delayed CA storage reduced respiration rate but was not different compared to the rapid CA. Ethylene production rate was lower in delayed CA storage than in cold storage but higher in delayed CA storage, compared to rapid CA storage. Titratable acidity was lower in delayed CA storage as CA storage progressed. Firmness was not different between rapid CA storage and delayed CA storage after 8 months of CA storage. Therefore, the results indicate that delayed CA storage should be a promising approach to reduce the risk development of flesh browning and watercore during CA storage of 'Fuji' apples.
This experiment was conducted to study the qualitative changes of grafted cactus after harvest and to examine the decomposition characteristics of pathogenic fungi which occurs or grows during the simulated shipping period. Plant materials with four varieties of Gymnocalycium mihanovichii var. friedrichii including, 'Hukwang', 'Huhong', 'Hwangwol', 'Yeunhwa' and two varieties of Chamaecereus silvestrii f. variegate such as 'Goldcrown' and 'Yellowcrown' were used. During the simulated shipping period, the fresh-weight, bulb diameter, carbon dioxide emission rate, and decomposition rate were observed. The regeneration rate and decomposition rate were observed for the grafted cactuses that were placed in a greenhouse environment with a temperature of $28{\pm}12^{\circ}C$ and humidity of $36{\pm}15.3%$ after 40 days of simulated shipping. There were reductions in the fresh-weight and bulb diameter in every variety as time passed while the carbon dioxide emission rate showed no meaningful difference by each variety. Furthermore, the decomposition rate in the scion was higher than in the stock. According to the analysis of pathogenic fungi by decomposition characteristics, Alternaria sp., Cladosporium sp., Colletotrichum sp., Fusarium sp., Penicillium sp. in G. mihanovichii var. friedrichii were found and Alternaria sp., Bipolaris sp., Cladospoirum sp. in C. silvestrii f. variegate were identified. Therefore, to maintain and improve the quality of grafted cactus, it is necessary to analyze the factors of decomposition from the time of harvest until the point of export and develop a process technology to minimize the decomposition rate.
